Title: What is a "serious biker"?
Post by: houndguy on September 22, 2013, 07:44:29 PM
Recently while down with the flu I read "Ghosts of Scootertrash past" by Mark Tiger Edmonds (you can read a review of the book:  http://2smallerwheels.blogspot.com/2013/09/catching-up-on-my-reading.html (http://2smallerwheels.blogspot.com/2013/09/catching-up-on-my-reading.html)).  Which got me thinking:

How do you define a "serious biker"?

Is it based on miles rode?

Is it based on lifestyle?

Is it based on what type of weather they are riding in?

It is based on using the bike as their main/only means of transport?

Mechanical skill?

Gang afflilation?

Do you have to travel a certain number of miles?  Or own a particular type of bike?

What is a "serious biker" to you?

Can't really think of myself as a 'serious biker'.... 'cause I'm putting around on a scooter,
but a question:

Any leads on studded snow tires for my scooter?
Was in the high 40's for this morning's pre-dawn ride. Saw 14 deer. They don't bother me, I don't bother them. Put on the handsome stock seat - kinda like a girl I went to school with : Pretty, but a pain in the you-know-what.

A serious biker is a person who lives his life around bikes... starts the day with the bike... ends the day with it... works on his bike... weekends on bikes... racing, tinkering and stuff... no need to have a gang or membership of any club doing charity rides... talks about bikes... talks to his bike... doesnt do researches on iridium, synthetic oils, tires... doesnt carry tools.. a screwdriver, vise grip and duct tape will do...he just knows what's best...for his bike or bikes... and, oh... maybe he doesnt have time for any forum either... just rides and rides...

Many serious bikers to be found here http://advrider.com/forums/ (http://advrider.com/forums/)
I can spend hours reading through the ride reports.

Someone who loves to ride.

I think it's that simple. I wouldn't call myself a 'serious biker' really, maybe rather I seriously love bikes and love to ride. I'm a "Rider", that says enough for me. :)
