Title: Super 8 Headlamp Controller Delete
Post by: wheelsoffreedom76 on September 11, 2013, 02:25:43 AM
This mod will remove the headlamp controller module, and substitute two 30 amp relays, one for high beam and one for low beam. The headlamp will be on when the key is on.

This gets rid of the crazy designed half brightness at idle, and gives full system voltage. This mod will also keep the headlamp current draw on the dedicated circuit that is intended for headlamps, as opposed to the wire jumper method which overloads the accessory circuit.

I used blazer 5 pin 30 amp relays from Oreilly Auto Parts,

Most 4 or 5 pin relays could be used as a substitute. NOTE that most 5 pin relays have a pin #87 and pin #87A and those are normally open and normally closed terminals. The Blazer Baja DF005W has two #87 terminals which are connected internally.

How big is the alternator of the Super 8 and battery? Will there be any issues keeping the battery charged enough to start the bike? It seems like a great idea to replace a potentially troublesome part.
