Title: Valve adjustment
Post by: moparkid on September 10, 2013, 09:45:24 PM
Just did a valve adjustment (1st one) at 5800 miles. If you can change a tire, you can do your own valve adjustments. Took less time to adjust them (and a small adjustment at that) than it did to get the seat and tub out. Dont be afraid to try it. If you have your manual and you have the proper tools and feeler gauge its a piece of cake.  The adjustment was so minor I really cant tell the difference so I am just going to assume that the valves really gotta be out of whack before you'll notice a difference in sound or performance after you do the adjustment. The main point here is if I can do it, anyone can as I do not consider myself a gearhead.

Could you provide some details on the valve adjustment.  I'm considering getting a DT but am concerned about the valve adjustments.  I do the valves on all my motorcycles and scooters but have read that access to the head on many maxi scooters is a nightmare.

How much bodywork has to be removed?

How long did the total procedure take?

Any special tools required?

Thanks.  It sounds like this is no more complicated than my Super 8, other than having twice as many valves
