General Discussion / about to turn 20,000 miles on the LIKE200iLX
« on: May 25, 2024, 04:32:06 PM »
I noticed on the speedo this morning....
Next week or three I will hit 20,000 miles on the LIKE - purchased new @ May 2013.
There were several weeks when I was only riding one scooter - while the LIKE was in the shop for warranty work.

So I figure I've ridden 40,000 miles on scooters since 2013, because I've always alternated rides with at least one other scooter.
I owned 3 Honda motorcycles in my early days, (before joining the games in Vietnam)  - all new. Loved them each!...but never kept mileage records.
I know there are guys here who've ridden that many in 2 yrs.
But - that is my number.

General Discussion / Memorial W/E off to a great start!
« on: May 25, 2024, 03:18:34 PM »
Yesterday - daughter needed to use a laundromat for some large items - so good excuse to use the one in Yellow Springs!
Then, we hit Miguel's food truck for his great tacos!

Finding a place to sit with food is a bit of a dice roll in YS - but the UnderDog makes their patio available , once their patrons are seated. (or buy a muffin from the 'Dog and camp out there!)

back to the tacos - the side sauces are.....violent!

Y.S. will be very busy this holiday w/e. Lots of folks and flags out already yesterday (Fri)

Stig

PS: a young deer walked past us on the sidewalk as we exited the laundromat! In the village center traffic and crowds - the poor thing looked sacred and lost - "how to find my way back to the forest?" Sadly - it was headed in the wrong direction.

General Discussion / Re: My scooter is so fast it went to prison!
« on: May 24, 2024, 11:01:18 AM »
I have had the Vespa for about 3 months and have over 2,000 miles on it.

As for the prison it is now a tourist attraction with tours, a restaurant, events and even concerts.  It happened to be closed on Monday when I was there but the gate was open so I rode in.

Some info:  https://tourbrushy.com/

Some interesting history:  https://www.knoxnews.com/story/news/crime/2018/03/25/manhunt-mountains-james-earl-ray-and-brushy-mountain-prison-breakout-1977/437795002/

Klav,
Half the time I can't remember where I've parked.....
did you already do a nice compar-o review of your Vespa vs your LIKE?
Ride quality, etc?

cc's?

Thanks, Stig

Klav!
How long have you owned that Vespa?

I had been enjoying your nice photos of your LIKE150i.....or have I?!

BTW:; state penitentiaries are not happy places to visit.
Years ago I accompanied a lady friend in California to visit her husband in Chino State Pen.
I came to understand why she didn't like going alone!

I'm told maybe the price is a little high at $7000. $6500 obo. How about that....
I don't know....will prices on cycletrader give you an idea of the value of a 2022 550 with 3000 miles?

OK, update on my last post just to let you know how things turned out.  I didn't need to use the fuel can, yay!  Stopped for the Kodak moment about half a mile from the petrol station and the top picture records the 190.9 trip so by the time I rolled onto the forecourt it achieved over 191 miles without running out.  Dare I go for 200?...

This second photo shows the curious flicker rate that the dash has and which shows so often on YouTube road tests.  It's invisible to the naked eye, but cameras almost always show it.

PS Getting the hang of this picture posting lark eh Stig?  Thanks for the tutorial.
An exemplary post!
Technical and informative!
High tension (will he have to walk?)  fine grasp of foreign languages and their weird spelling.
Leaves door open for a possible sequel! (will he go for 200 miles!?)
Just really good work Neil!
Seriously.

And, for those of us who lose the plot after a sentence or 5 - photographs to help us understand the theories, the logarithms... to keep our interest!

Good photographs.
Keep them coming Neil!

I might skip a paragraph or 3 but I never do not look at photos!
I wish others will try to do as Neil has....post some photos of a scooter, or bits of it - or whatever!

I frequently try to post a scooter photo whether it's germane to the post or not!

General Discussion / Your vehicles. the various countries ?
« on: May 21, 2024, 11:54:30 AM »
I've owned vehicles that were made in:
Canada, USA, China, Vietnam, Japan, Thailand, Germany and France.
But biggest surprise was deciphering the VIN and learning that I was driving around Massachusetts in a car made in Austria! ('91 VW Vanagon GL)

YOU?

Stig
(I did ride in an MGB, and  Saab....but those don't count)
Most fun: riding from Boston to NYC in Charlie's old 3 cyl. 2 stroke Saab, and a couple of 2CV's in Paris.

Until the fob battery goes dead
Is it a key with fob attached?
Fob battery quits - put key in and turn it?!

Lock your keys in the top case or under the seat!

I leave the keys in the Liberty's top case. The seat is never fully closed - so that's no worry.....but that top case! You don't need the key to lock it!

The LIKE's top case requires the key to close~! ...so I'm safe there. I'm rarely messing under the seat - but it would snap closed on my keys if I wasn't careful.
I do have a seat/ignition key hidden on the LIKE after I scared myself one winter's day, miles form home!
