General Discussion / Re: nearest deer miss yet!
« on: March 22, 2024, 12:46:08 PM »
deer are a menace, here. We have so many that I won't ride on certain roads at dusk....and there are other roads I won't even DRIVE my car on at dusk due to the number of car-deer accidents that happen.

A youtube motorcycle channel I watch showed the guy's girlfriend filling their 'deer feeder' at their house! Who feeds deer?? What, do want more of them running around to kill you quicker on your bike?? Crazy.

I-80 thru PA is like that, not just at dusk, I swear the DOT plants deer browse in the median on purpose, one big food plot, Don't follow a big truck too close, they just mow em over and leave surprise road kill

General Discussion / Re: AK 550s on sale
« on: March 20, 2024, 08:39:20 PM »
Was just looking online at my local full line motorcycle (and Kymco) dealer. They have had 2 2023 silver scoots for a while. Both are listed on the website for a sale price of $8799 compared to list of $10,399. No idea about all the ‘add on’ fees, but found it interesting to see large discounts on anything with 2 wheels!

Located in Iowa City, IA

sounds right, trying to move inventory, they are leftover models, I got my '22 for $800 less

Agree with Ruffus that the AK is very different than a conventional scooter. [snip]

another in agreement, I compare my AK to a SV650 I once had, the fun factor in the twisties is similar if not better, add the Brembo brakes and better suspension, cargo in the whale belly, touring comfort. The Kymco AK550 is a reliable hidden treasure.

General Discussion / Re: if KYMCO would spend a few $ on marketing!

Actually I think Kymco made a genius decision to partner with Harley Davidson in their joint project called LiveWire and that alone will get Kymcos name out there while selling new electric cycles alongside H.D.
Even if it doesnt make a *huge* wave it should be enough to turn some heads in the Western world and get more butts on seats!

article is 3 years old and this is first I have heard..... if they really wanted to market, I'd have heard of it long before 2024

crazy by who's definition?

I don't think so crazy, cause turns out, it's easy and doesn't take any special skill, just the proper tires

riding in blizzards and ice storms

Eye Candy | Videos and Pics / Re: 50°F is an awkward temp
« on: March 10, 2024, 12:53:29 AM »
50° is the awkward temp, at 30mph, the wind chill is down to freezing, on a bigger bike, that goes faster, down to the mid 20s

once is gets to the 40s easier to make the decision to use a heated liner rather than an extra layer

I see the benefit of lane splitting in urban traffic, something I never see where I live, I think there is more benefit to legal passing on double yellow like Vermont

One evening, my grandmother was called into work at Wright Patterson AirForce base. She gave my brother $10 for us to go eat dinner at the Melodee Diner in her little town in Ohio. It had one stop light.
I was about 10.
I had the shrimp dinner.
A few hours later my grandmother loaded me into the back seat of her Pontiac and rushed me to Wright Patt....where the flight surgeon pumped my stomach. Of course that was hours too late. I didn't die - just wished I was going to.

Oh, she had a few words with that diner! (I think. She made us wait in the car.)

one of the reasons I like where I live in NH, fresh seafood, several friends that fish for a living, mostly lobster. Fish market in town, owner drives down to Gloucester, MA every morning 4am to pick up yesterday's catch, never know what kind of fish he will have in the market today, but he tries to always have lobster, scallops and some kind of white fish, cod, haddock, pollock, sometimes shark or tuna. Yesterdays fish taste great today, but tomorrow might not

a few years ago, my GF bought a cheap no name scooter, she rode it back and forth to her job 2 miles away, for 2 months, then one day she came walking pushing the scooter, had no idea what was wrong, never thought of putting gas in it
