WHEEL BALANCE
« on: November 03, 2015, 08:43:58 PM »
This scooter is the first small bike I've owned and the first single cylinder bike I've owned I'm noticing a slight bounce or shake in the front wheel around 40 mph on smooth road surfaces. The bike is new and now has 100 miles on it so before I bring it in I thought I would see if anyone else has noticed it in their scoot?

Prop up the front wheel so you can spin the wheel to check for tire out of round. Bet ya got one or more lumps! Wife's GTi300 smooth as glass. Tell what brand of tire, please.

I have MAXXIS tires on the bike and over 35 mph I start to feel a shake or bounce so that is why I was thinking balance, but this bike did sit around all summer so I don't know if it could have formed a flat spot? Smooth as glass it is not.

No to pot holes or anything else. What I'm feeling is, I think, a slight out of balance. I will bring it in after the winter when I get 600 miles on it for the first service. I was planning on doing the oil and filter changes my self, but I will have the dealer do it and check the front wheel balance. The bike did have 19 demo miles on it.

Thanks for the info. I've never had Metzlers but I will consider them when I replace these. Sounds like I should have my tires balanced soon before my tires get cupped. I expect to get between 6 and 8K miles out of the back and 10-12K out of the front. 3K out of a front tire is not good. I'm just about to put it away for the winter. I went out yesterday and that might be the last of the nice mid 50s day we will have before the snow falls here along the Mass/NH boarder. Once we get a little bit of snow the towns start dumping sand and salt on the roads so even if it melts right a way the roads will be a mess until the spring.
