General Discussion / Re: Do you turn off scooter w/kill switch??
« on: July 31, 2017, 08:05:08 PM »
Kymco has known about this problem since at least 2014. My wife's 2013 Like 200 experienced this issue back in 2014. We brought it back to our Kymco dealer, Burger's in Flemington, NJ, under warranty. They tried replacing the switch but that didn't fix it. They ended up consulting with their technical folks in SC and still could not come up with a fix. They advised us not to use the kill switch and we never have since that time. I've never had a problem with any of my other Kymcos' kill switches, but since that time, I stopped using it on all of my scooters.

Yesterday, I ordered a second one for the right side windshield mount. Now I'll have true stereo sound.

General Discussion / Tunes on my Like 200
« on: July 28, 2017, 05:05:09 PM »
Rather than getting a bluetooth helmet to hear my tunes, I decided to go in a different direction. I mounted my Polk Swimmer Duo Speaker to the windshield mounting hardware on my Like 200. The sound is amazing. I can even hear it at highway speeds! These bluetooth speakers can be found on Amazon for around $30. I also use it when I go to the beach. I attach it to my umbrella and the sound is unbelievable. It's awesome riding around with my music now. Makes riding by myself much more enjoyable. When you want to charge it, you just unscrew it from the base and bring it inside your house to charge it using any USB port.

I own two 2013 Likes and I recently found a practically new red 2014 Like for my older brother. My LX has over 4K miles and my wife's has close to 4K miles. Neither of them have any kind of runnability issues. They should start, idle and accelerate smoothly. If your dealer can't find the problem, either call the Zone rep or find another dealer who can fix the issue. Don't settle for the "we can't duplicate the problem in our shop" story.

General Discussion / Re: Stay with Kymco?
« on: July 13, 2017, 07:36:41 PM »
My 2006 People 250 has about 24K KM/15K miles with absolutely no engine issues. I own 6 other Kymcos with considerably less mileage, but also no engine issues. Based on my positive experiences and the experiences of other Kymco owners, I think your engine problem is an isolated incident.  Then again, it wouldn't hurt for all of us to keep an eye on the timing chain tensioner.

Never mind. I found the problem. The radiator cap came loose and the coolant was leaking down everywhere. Tightened up the cap and no more leak. What a relief!

People 250 / Coolant leaking from top of overflow reservoir....
« on: July 12, 2017, 06:27:02 PM »
My 2006 People 250 started spewing/leaking coolant yesterday from the top of the overflow reservoir. No changes/additions have been made to the coolant level since I've owned the bike for the last 4 years. When the bike is warmed up, the level is up to the full line on the overflow bottle. Other than this leak, the bike runs perfectly fine. Any ideas?

General Discussion / Like 200 battery question....
« on: June 26, 2017, 01:50:01 PM »
The owner's manual calls for a 12V 9AH replacement battery. The original battery is model #GTX-9BS. Almost all of the batteries I have found online that cross reference to a GTX-9BS say they have 8AH. Will the 1AH difference between batteries be an issue?

General Discussion / Re: insurance adjustments
« on: June 20, 2017, 02:16:15 PM »
I'm glad you brought this subject up. I've had full coverage on both my 2013 Like 200's since buying them new in 2013. I checked KBB and they are presently worth about a 1/2 to 2/3 less than I originally paid for them. I just called my insurance company to see what the difference would be if I only kept liability insurance. I was currently paying over $150 for each bike for full coverage. After removing the collision/comprehensive portion of my coverage, the premium was now about $68 each. That's a pretty significant difference. Hence, I decided to remove the collision/comprehensive portion of my insurance.

I guess to answer your question, it just depends on your situation. If it's your only bike and your only means of transportation, then you might want to consider that. You also have to look at your financial situation and see if you could afford to replace your bike if it was totalled/damaged. Another thing to consider is the area in which you primarily ride. Is it a high crime area? Is it a high traffic/accident area like NYC? If so, you might want to consider maintaining full coverage.   You can't just look at the depreciated value of your bike.

For me, it was a no brainer. I own 5 other scooters, it's not my principal means of transportation, I live in a relatively rural, low traffic/accident/crime area, and in the event they are wrecked, I can afford to replace these scoots even without receiving the depreciated value of my Likes.

Offer and acceptance constitutes a contract. I agree.....bad form indeed if you renege on the deal.

So you offered $600 and he accepted? You made a deal and now you are contemplating backing out? Bad form, old boy.

Do any online Kymco parts Dealers/retailers carry windshields? All I see are parts schematics for OEM parts but nothing for accessories.

Thanks everyone! My brother is coming over tomorrow to get his new scoot. He's very excited. I changed the oil this morning with Rotella T6 and installed a Battery Tender pigtail harness on the battery. She's all ready to go now. I've only had her for less than 24 hours, but I'm already sad she's gonna be leaving. I love riding new to me bikes.

Cheeky Seats is the way to go. Suzy is the best. Cloth/Fabric seat covers are great for the hot months. No more ass cheek burns.
