Need help!!!!
« on: December 13, 2019, 01:05:48 PM »
First off I wanna start by saying that this forum has been a huge help so far. But I've recently encountered an issue. I was riding about 2 weeks ago and the bike was running fine just put gas and  2stroke oil in it. Was cruising along and it just died. My battery is not the best. But have charged it multiple times before and the button would start it up no problem. I am guilty of occasionally leaving the key on sometimes. But I could still kickstart it with very little problem... Now I'm getting no spark put a new plug wire/ignition coil. Is it possible that from the battery dying so often that the stator went bad? I don't have a volt or ohm meter. I would think it would almost have to be the stator or am I wrong?

Even the best batteries out there gets killed by Voltage getting too low quite often. Only deep cycle batteries, specially designed to handle going low on Voltage will last in cases like your’s. Deep cycle batteries are more expensive and are usually designed for other applications.

It would make sense to get your battery fully charged, and get a proper load test done at a battery dealer. Chances are very good that you are sitting wth a dying battery.

But if it was running when it died wouldn't that mean the charging system isn't working properly???? Or could the battery be so dead that it just stopped charging...
?

You are in the troubleshooting stage at this point and the problem will not be solved by guessing. Scooterfan has given you an excellent starting point so go do what he recommended and report back. At the very least, the load test on the battery will rule it out as the cause IF it passes.

Now the trouble shooting begins....do you have a multimeter or a 12v test light?

Start at the battery. Post to post, does the test light come on? Then to the start relay, clip to the ground post (black wire from battery) and poke the red wire from battery terminal and then the post on the relay. Proceed if the light comes on. There is a smaller red wire on the same post as the big one for the battery that needs to be checked at its other end. Do that and tell us what you find.

The cables that connect to the battery the positive " large red & small red". Negative- large green & small green. The wires had started to to fray and break away from the connectors so I cut off both ends and re placed the connectors with 4 small ring wire connectors 2 for each wire also had to take off some length of negative wire does the wire have to be the exact same size?

I meant 2 for each positive and negative should I had just put his positives in one connector and both negatives in one connector? Or is the wiring I replaced to small of a gauge to produce enough juice for spark?

What I can understand is one big wire and one small wire for each the positive and the negative on the battery, right? Frayed wires never good! Good thinking to cut off old connectors and put new ones on but I would recommend an eye type terminal for each wire just like Kymco did it. Piggy-backing in one terminal usually will not get a good crimp especially with after market tools.

So I should have an eye connector for each individual wire which is a total of 4?
