My goodness my nut is all chewed up! It is so hard to get of regardless of it not being put on tight! I had the garage last year to loosen it for me and they had a hard time but did get it and than just snugged it enough so that I could get it of when I was ready to do an oil change. Yesterday went to do an oil change and I could not get it off so of to the garage I went and they tryed but stopped afraid to break it and than I would be without a bike until. Why is this thing so weak it don't seem that it is made out of metal. What a pain.

Cat, can you post a photo of this "fuel filter nut" which has to be removed in order to do an oil change?
Are you talking about the disc with hex nut, with spring and thimble-like screen behind it?
These things get stuck on all kinds of scooters. If gets chewed up, whole kit is less than $10 on ebay.
Most of us never find anything in the screen after a while....so, you could just leave it on there.
I might not know what you're looking at....

Nah, Kat is talking about the OIL FILTER cover. It has a 15/16" hex on it for removal and installation. It is a neat O-ring cap that only needs "snugging" that got cranked down real tight last oil change. It is on the bottom right of the engine and does have a little conical spring to keep the oil filter up in place. Do not remove until the replacement arrives! This screw-up is on the one who did the last oil change.

Yes Karl that is it. Thing is I do the changes and I assure you I never snug it tight that I can't get it off! I never had issues until last fall when I was about to do a oil change and it was so tight for whatever reason be! I had to go in and have the boys loosen it. They did that but dam sitting through the winter months it is now tight again! No one touched it!

May be your road guys use some super corrosive stuff and it gets in the threads. Try some anti-seize on the threads next time and be REAL CAREFUL ABOUT NOT OVER TIGHTENING!

What do you suggest I do right now. What can I put on it to try and work it into the crack so I can loosen this off by myself. Will WD 40 help?

I hope you are using a 6 point wrench not a 12 point wrench, I still have the same nut on my scooter since new and the nut looks like new, 87,000 Km. 2011 kymco downtown 300i,

Yeah I think I messed it up by not having proper tool all along. My fault. Lesson learned!! I now have the proper tool I got last summer but to late now. geeez. :P Hey DeDee I went ahead and order the K&N filter. :)

Leave it be until you find a mechanic you trust who will remove it...and have a new one ready to install. Experience and the right tool is essential. At this point let the pro do it.

I have almost the same problem with this one. i tried last change to open it, I failed, the outer section is almost gone. probably i will be able to open it next week but i will destroy it for sure. do you know the part number to buy for replace? thank you!

Vale that is the bolt for the oil filter screen. In 80,000km I have never found anything. Just leave it as it is.

For years I've used marine grease on the 0 rings and washers of these things. Then just snug it.
Bought spares after watching people tear them up, never usrd them, yet.
Around here they use enough salt to hole a nuclear sub.

Oh I have learned this lesson I tell ya. Yes we have so much salt her and my bike is outside all winter this past two winters. My bike is deteriorated fast. I have it up on a wooden platform I built and a tent I bought for a bike.

Loosen the nut while the engine is cold, before you warm up the engine to do an oil change. I don't warm up the engine anymore to do an oil change but do it while it's cold. It just takes longer that's all.
