Technical | How To / Going up belt size
« on: September 29, 2020, 04:01:19 AM »
I was in the CVT of my 2013 Like 50. I noticed the belt could be a little longer (belt reaches the bottom of the variator but not the top of clutch pully, vice versa confirmed after sharpie test). I cant find OEM belt size anywhere. Any idea how to figure that out? And how to know what longer size I should go to without buying a bunch of belts?

Technical | How To / Select PHBG Needle sheet I made
« on: September 08, 2020, 05:23:41 PM »
Hey y'all long time no talk. I'm working on retuning my LIKE70 2t setup. In doing so I just bought a needle kit. To understand the differences between the needles I made a spreadsheet of the diameters vs length of the needle. Larger diameter at a given point should mean less fuel more air vs a smaller diameter of a given point meaning more fuel less air.

Here are the variables defined, D and E and do not apply to PHBG needles:

https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/proxy/rJ88lCY9AmVdtHggVEViJZzmYPjvjCjx4Tolgylh9ORID5tGvd-xFGN3CsOEc7He3HWro4Z8DLzkanOkY_bkxgE9WzN3w7wMu8-EwrI993kJxHw1IGKYMV7ZD2lnfg

My chart is attached. Also good other dimensional info is here
https://www.apriliaforum.com/forums/showthread.php?309259-DellOrto-PHBG-Needles-Measured

Looks like tip of needle to first clip is 39mm but I will measure that myself. I also want to find out how far below the clip 1/2-3/4 throttle is located. No idea if this stuff is useful but cheers!

Im curious what you guys are up/hobbies when not messing around with scooters!

What other hobbies do you guys have??

I myself am a baseball fan as stated on the other thread. I follow the Orioles and am pumped for opening day against the BoSox this
monday 3/31/14. I have already take off of work :)

When Im not at my job a whole hour and a half away (US Gov, Alexandria VA) you can find me taking Italian classes in Little Italy (Baltimore), homebrewing (Ive done a couple wheat beers and a milk stout), playing the geetar, or keeping my physics up to date (Major in college). I also still volunteer to help my fraternity from college (about 15 mins away).

How about y'all???

Technical | How To / Torque springys
« on: March 21, 2014, 07:52:47 PM »
I currently have the Naraku 1500 rpm torque/contra spring seen below.
http://www.racingplanetusa.com/compression-torque-spring-naraku-1500-sport-p-7150-1.html?sessID=d7dc68bff50b9693b58ebbfda30471e1#.UyyWg8X7Lco

I am going to install the Malossi upgear kit as the BBK has this engine screaming at high rpms when at low speeds.
http://www.racingplanetusa.com/transmission-gear-malossi-1544-kymco-horiz-p-226-1.html?cPath=2_26378_26382&sessID=d7dc68bff50b9693b58ebbfda30471e1#.UyyXg8X7Lco

In anticipation of CVT changes I would like to pick up the next heaviest torque/contra spring. That would be the 2000 rpm spring. RPUSA is out of stock at the moment. The other companies (in stock) torque springs are rated by percents like the Malossi and Top Gear Racing ones. So in the percents which spring would be equivalent to the 2000 rpm spring of Naraku? Im also on stock fly springs. I am getting the Malossi 3 pk of various weight fly springs as well.

These springs in theory fit my bike.

Found this handy guide containing general rules for carb jetting when doing upgrades
http://www.scootershack.co.uk/threads/scooter-carburetor-jetting-guide.2467/

Meat and potatoes:

Different modifcations need different upjets, so here is a general rule.

Note - where applicable i have stated a 50cc and a 125cc option, bore kit and carb for example.

70cc/172cc Kit - 8-12% upjet (depending on kit, some need over 12%)
Exhaust - 5-8% upjet (depends on exhaust, some have been known to need 15%!)
Open Filter - 5-10% upjet (depends on setup)
21mm/25mm carb -4-6% upjet (depends on setup)

Like 50 2T / Idle acting funny; weather related issue?
« on: October 28, 2013, 09:24:33 PM »
Recently the like has been acting a little funky after being started after being off for at least 30 minutes. When I go to start the bike one of two things occur:

A) Start the bike, bike idles at ~1800rpm, rev the bike, revs go up come down and hang at 4k and stay
B) Start the bike, bike idles at 4k rpm

Then I go off and ride the bike and the problem seems to fix itself after some time. Idle will return to normal (~1800rpm). Just prior to fixing itself, I can hit the rear break at a stop and the 4k hang will drop back down to proper idle speed.

A couple weeks ago I installed a tach. Prior to that I had been playing with airbox, jets and idle settings for research purposes :) The newly installed tach indicated I had set my idle 300 rpm lower than stock spec (1850 +/- 100 rpm) So I fixed that and all was well.

Zee Background information:
Stock carb with autochoke
I adjusted the proper idle speed in about 75 F (21 C) weather.
Currently it is about 45 F (4 C) weather.
I never played with the air screw, it is still at its stock setting and is adjustable
I have the stock airbox, 88MJ and Tecnigas exhaust

So in summary, the idle is high (~4k), when riding and stopping idle goes to the 4k, when it gets better (after some time) the rear brake will force the bike to return to correct idle, after a little bit more time the problem goes away. Any ideas??

Side note: The 4k idle is right below when the clutch engages so a very light twist of the throttle and Im on my way! It has made the issue a little bit more fun :)

Like 50 2T / I installed a tachometer into the headset
« on: October 14, 2013, 06:44:30 AM »
I installed a tach on mine

Link to tach
http://tinytach.com/

I cut a hole in the light side of the headset, right above the starter. Prior I test fitted and master cylinder is not in the way. There is a perfect amount of space behind this spot to hold the tach.

What the headset looks like with it installed

Close up. Edges arent the straightest. Thats what I get for buying a $10 "dremel" from harbor freight, Dont buy one

Im looking to seal/waterproof the tiny gap where the tach and headset meet. Preferably a black sealer; any suggestions?
