General Discussion / Moving on
« on: January 27, 2013, 03:06:14 PM »
While still under warranty my super8 broke down. Kymco dealer is fifty miles away making for an expensive tow. Hoping that a simple fix that I pay for ,would be cheaper than the tow to where kymco would pay, I towed it to the local shop. They diagnosed the problem. Broken cam chain had shredded motor.
Then they told me that they were no longer working on "Chinese scooters".AAAARGH!
Between the short tow and diagnosis, I was now in for 200.00. Talked to kymco trying to get them to agree to send a new motor to local Honda shop for replacement but it was a no go as I assumed it would be.
Cost to tow to dealer? 300.00! That puts me in for 500.00 before kymco even looks at it.
Anyway, I sold the carcass and now ride a Honda pcx150.
This thread is not to bash kymco. I loved my super8, and feel a broken cam chain was a fluke, not an indication of quality!
Kymco needs to find a way to expand their network. Make it easier to become a dealer, or figure a way so that independent repair shops with certified mechanics could do warranty work. Heck, make some kind of a deal with walmart to carry parts, and DIY would be way more convenient. As it stands, in 90% of Florida it is impractical to own a  kymco.
Anyway, that's why I ride a Honda instead of the gti300 which I like better!
See ya on the road!

Makes me laugh when people have such a hard time with FOX news.
Name ten news outlets. Print or video.Chances are 9 of them have a liberal bias. Just the way it has always been.
Complaining because one takes a view you don't agree with is very small minded.
Oreilly and hannity and the other opinionated hosts are not news, they are entertainment shows.
When they come on I switch to CNN or PBS to get their take on the news. Gives me more info to decide for myself. Well rounded is better than narrow minded.

Boo hoo, coach! The other team showed up so we don't get a default. It's not fair! Wah wah wah my p***y hurts.

Actually if you do the research you will find that only one real study has been done( by a liberal magazine), and they found fox to be the most fair and balanced, but not by much. I'll look for the link.
Ignore the non news crap like oreilly and hannity, and use your head and you can figure it out.
Or just listen to the liberal rags and pretend they are balanced if that makes you feel better.
Love the people that decry fox but ignore the fact hat virtually every other news source has historically been left leaning. Have you not noticed they always support the liberal candidate, it's not a just a coincidence.

Super 8 150 / Re: Increasing the CC of the super 8 150

Is it a true 200cc kit or actually closer to 180?
Get a good performance variator and try that first.
How fast do you want to go? And how long do you want your bike to last.
Ask yourself why a factory 200cc only goes 5-7 mph faster than a 150.
How much work to tune, re- tune, and tune again.
You might have to go with taller gears to really see the top speed benefits.
Almost all added power is used up fighting increased wind resistance and drag.
Not trying to talk you out of this. If you enjoy the tinkering I wish you well.
But if you are looking for a simple way to get sportsbike performance from a scooter there is not one.

Super 8 150 / Re: Variator upgrade for my Super 8
« on: April 17, 2012, 12:30:52 AM »
With just the variator change I hit a true 61.5 mph verified by two gps units.
Before I was at 64 on the speedo which = 57 mph.
After I hit 70 on the speedo which = 61.5 mph

While I agree that it is time to remove american troops from foreign countries, I think some people need to remember that it was their actions that caused the situation in the first place.
Remember the atrocities that got you occupied, and why at the time we needed to be there.
It also seems short sighted to blame the USA for situations negotiated and agreed to by your own governments.at best we are only half responsible.

Guy on another forum added a bbk to his 150.(very good mechanic)made it a 170cc.
Result was an extra 3 mph. It just is usually not worth it.
Performance variator got me 4.5 extra mph. And that is with the same weights.
If you can't get the speed you want with cvt upgrades you really are better off with a bigger scoot.
On the other hand if you like wrenching, by all means go for it and keep us posted.

That's why I change one thing at a time.
Had such an improvement from the variator change I decided not to change the weights or springs. Yet.
Have had the lurch/shudder/thunk issue before.
Hold the brakes and rev your engine for a couple seconds. If the issue is improved(temporary)
You need to clean out your clutch bell.i used rubbing alcohol.
Then LIGHTLY sand inside of bell where the pads grab.
I also used sandpaper to scratch the black build up off the clutch pads.you don't want to sand them down, just use the abrasive to kind of brush them lightly.

Install the dr pulley with your stock weights and ride it.
I think my rpms went up a bit.
Then decide what to do next.
Usually best to do one mod at a time.

I have the shad 29.
It was supposed to come with the correct mounting plate for the super 8.

Had to drill 4 holes.
.??
Anyway, looks good. Just big enough for a 3/4 helmet and wallet, cell phone,...

How and how hard did it go down?
Might just be plastics.
Does it run?
Handlebars and plastic. Brake levers, turn signals usually hit first.

I ended up with the dr pulley.
Got a 5 mph gain using the weights in the old variator.
Got it from mainelyscooters.
Wanted to try the Naraku kit but it was unavailable.

I prefer the seating on the super 8.
I usually sit back pretty far to keep my knees away from the handlebars and the people just didn't feel as good that way.

Kevin,
How much did that clutch spring bump your rpms?
I like the idea of that but some guys are claiming it will raise rpms too much.(Chinese scooter forum)

Maybe too much for Chinese but not for kymco.
I Trust your actual experience over the guesses from guys working on lesser quality scoots.
