Hey friends,
I want to check my belt out for ware and tare. I think I took out all bolts but It is super snug. Am I missing something in taking this off? Also what about that little filter thing. Should that be cleaned? Just took of that little filter and there is a large nut there, do I take that off first? Thanks :)

No, that is the nut for one of the pulleys. The cover almost gets welded on, from the heat. Carefully try to pry it off,without ruining the gasket. Mine does not have that filter, but it looks like it should be cleaned. Maybe try to give the cover a few gentle taps, with a rubber mallet and try to wiggle it free. I'm sure you get some more suggestions.

Mine was difficult to get it too. As has been suggested, a few decent taps from a rubber mallet will start to move it. If you look underneath the casing you will see a pry point. Using a sturdy screwdriver, pushed not too far into it, gently separate the casings.

I notice a tare/split in the outside gasket sealer. How can I repair? Is it OK?

Owner's manual suggests the main belt to be replaced at every 20,000kms.
I am curious as to how long do we normally get before having to replace the belt?

OK good I am now at 13000 km's :) I think the belt looks good. I have made a video and will show it soon.

the gasket on my downtown was torn first time off, ( variator cover) never replaced ! it is OK as it is vented, anyhow, mine did not come with the filter that you have so I never ordered a replacement, 85,000 Km. now and works fine as is,

Hmm. I must have put a spanner on the variator and turned it that way. Could have sworn I rotated the back wheel....I'm getting forgetful these days!
Mind you, at least I don't put my shorts on backwards :-)

I just started on my forth belt, and Im on my 6th set of tires I think, may be 7th, wont be long and Ill be doing the 8 th, set
when I check the belt I remove it off the pulleys , and bend it to see if there are cracks in between the cogs, then I check the sliders and clean the variator faces and rear pulley, putting it back on look for the arrows, as the belt is one way drive, and use lock-tight blue on the nuts

if you want to turn it use a socket and rachet wrench, use leverage

Yeah I saw some wee cracks in-between the groves. Not to bad though. I take it than about every 20,000 km to change it. Well I have changed my back tire for the third time just a weak ago. I have 13,000 km's only. :P

Do not worry about the paper gasket that gets torn when you remove the cover. If you are anal about it you can squeeze some silicone on the sections that are missing some gasket material, which is what I do.
I see scoots at the rallies running with no CVT covers on them with no apparent harm so I don't see how a break in the gasket is anything to get exercized over.
To remove the belt you probably will need to first remove the variator nut, which is a mo-fo. Go to youtube for videos that cover this. By the way, it's the width of the belt that wears down, not the flats. Go to videos on this, too.
