all right, guys, sounds like it's just normal scooterin'...I guess the only issue with it is that I have to consciously tap the brake to let the cars behind me know I'm slowing down..if there's no traffic I can almost get away with no braking.

thanks, again, for the info

General Discussion / Scoot slowing down with little brake needed
« on: May 09, 2016, 05:45:12 PM »
Hey guys, still new to this whole scoot thing...had my People S200 for about 7 months (2010 with a little over 2K miles) ...and I notice that I need to apply very little brake to get it to slow down. It's similar in feel to driving a car with manual transmission around town in 2nd gear..the minute you let off the gas the engine braking slows you way down.

I do have a little drag on my front brake but not enough to slow my bike down the way it does. In slow, neighborhood driving (25 mph and under) I could get away with applying my rear brake about 10 feet from the stop sign (and just barely, at that).

Is this a normal feel for a scoot or could I have more driveline drag than usual? (I haven't opened my CVT cover to look inside)

thanks

still no parts from powersportswarehouse.com, (placed order on Feb 9)...so today I did what I should have done in the first place, walked into my local dealer and ordered at the parts counter. The valve cover gasket was more expensive $16 vs about $5 online...but it will be here within a week. Lesson learned.

Hello Go Fast, I noticed no one had replied, yet...it may be because it can be very difficult to make suggestions when no one knows your specifics...you said a lot of parts have been changed / upgraded..but to what? It's hard to make suggestions without all of the necessary info..until someone else chimes in..enjoy your new scoot!

man, I'm jealous at how easy is to access your valve cover on that Like...my People S200 is a bear to get to...have to remove all the Tupperware to do about anything to it.

Stig, do you re use your valve cover gasket after checking valve clearance?

I've NEVER seen the valve cover gasket go bad on a Kymco in the 6 years I worked at the dealer. You can re-use, just put fresh engine oil on it when re-installing so it won't stick next time you do the valves.

that's the answer I was hoping for! I think I'll give it a shot. Thanks, Bettin

General Discussion / valve cover gasket alternatives?
« on: April 11, 2016, 05:53:50 PM »
while I'm into month #2 (and starting #3) since I ordered my parts (frustrated, see post below on Kymco parts source)....I'm wondering if there is a work around for my valve cover gasket? My plan is to check my valve clearance and I assumed the original 6 yr old valve cover gasket wouldn't survive the removal..so that's why I have a new one on order.

Any chance this gasket material is reusable? Anything else I can use for a valve cover gasket on this? (2010 People S200). It's going to be warm enough to start riding very soon and I thought I'd have all this taken care of by now..thanks.

I can tell you who not to buy from...powersportswarehouse.com  (aka performance powersports in Seneca, SC).

Ordered a bunch of parts online in early Feb...nothing...they don't answer the phone..they don't return calls....left 4 voicemails and haven't received a call back. Pathetic way of doing business. It's almost 2 months since I placed my order and I haven't received it or any notification.....do not order from these guys.

I even left negative feedback on their website detailing my poor experience...think I'd get a call back? Nope..nothing.

I manage a $12M + multi state sales region...if our customers have a problem we bend over backwards to make it right...if they call with a problem we return their call the same day...these guys? What a joke...

Klaviator, thanks for the link...that's a good read! I'm also jealous of your bike collection...5 (?) different bikes in the garage? Nice...

good info so far...so it seems like the smaller, lighter weight, smaller wheeled scooters are much more maneuverable at lower speeds but we give up higher speed stability to the heavier, longer wheelbase motorcycles? Is that why it gets a little hairy on a scooter the faster we go? I've told some friends to imagine sitting in an office chair going down the road at 50 mph..that's what the scooter feels like!

General Discussion / scooter vs motorcycle handling characteristics
« on: March 30, 2016, 01:25:38 AM »
our scooters would appear to have a weight distribution biased toward the rear (based on engine location)...motorcycles would appear to have a more forward weight distribution...how does this affect the handling between the 2?

Is this even an accurate assumption? It also looks like the riding position is farther forward on a scooter than on a motorcycle...

So what are the advantages or disadvantages of a typical motorcycle layout vs a typical scooter layout? And I'm just learning about rake angle...are our scooters set up with a rake angle more like a sport bike...or a cruiser?

thanks for satisfying my curiosity on these random questions!

I don't have an answer for you...but as a fellow People S200 owner I say welcome to the forum!

still new to this whole scooter thing...and my full face helmet doesn't fit completely under my seat on my People S200....wondering what you guys do with your helmet when you're out running errands, things like that?

I've carried it into a few stores..left it on my scooter a few times...curious what you guys do?

I'm with the other 'born late' riders! Bought my first 2 wheeler last Fall at age 49...always wanted one....just never found the right time until recently. Eagerly awaiting the Spring thaw to start riding, again.
