Lol! one cannot deflect a spray or splash on a road full of cars and trucks here. Water come from every directions. It's different riding on a rainy, flooded, city roads.  And you're right, no rain can stop me from riding either.

Right now, there are two storms queuing our country....

Islands covered with rain... lower left...

I love Top Gear UK! Especially when they go to other countries and buy vehicles.

They're in Vietnam there. The one where they go to South America is great too.

I have always had trouble in the rain with open air filters. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

..well, i'm NOT going to try riding in knee-deep floods.., that's just stupid..
And if the flood is staying for days? India has piles along many streets (*) so you can see the course of street even during monsoon time (but not the potholes - and an eventual drop and full bath is common).
(*) Similar to alpine and northern countries with deep snow covering the road. Although there is no riding in deep snow, because snow provides much resistance nearly independet of your own speed.

Yup, really depends on what country you are. I see in the internet one scoot carrying more than 2 passengers and I say to myself that's stupid! Then I see myself doing it once in a while.  Here, if you don't ride in the flood or storm, you'll get nowhere. Well, you can walk...

SUV stalled.....scoot keeps on going, going....
