General Discussion / Variator pics of 125 or larger?
« on: November 19, 2011, 04:00:36 AM »
G'day all, I am just wondering if anyone has any pics of a variator from a 125 or larger. Specifically, I would like to see the inside or the ramp plate.
Cheers,
Sid.

Agility 125 / Looking at buying an Agility 125, good or bad?
« on: October 31, 2011, 11:23:09 AM »
G'day all, as I have sold my zx50 I am now looking at buying another bike or scooter for commuting to work and back. I have not yet decided which way I will go yet. I do like the scooter as they are more practical with storage and the ability to carry gear with them. I would like to go as large as possible with keeping the flat floor. Without the flat floor it will lose the ability to carry larger items. I am also of the opinion that without the flat floor, I may as well buy a bike. From what I have seen anything over 125cc loses the flat floor. With the Agility 125, what can current owners tell me about them. What are they like for commuting, what sort of speeds are they capable of, what is the handling like, reliability, what is the storage like? With this one, I will not be doing any mods to the engine, but may play with roller weights and clutch springs in the distant future if I feel it is needed. The one I have seen advertised is an Agility RS125, do these have much floor space?
Any input is appreciated.
Sid.

zx50 / Any ZX owners in Aus.?
« on: October 05, 2011, 03:32:23 AM »
I have a few bits left over. I think international shipping might make it not worthwhile.
Parts such as dr. pulley sliders  6&8 grams, two belts, 1 stock and 1 Dayco 729x18.5, 1 OKO 24mm carb with cable to suit and race inlet plus a range of pilot and main jets also a new needle.
Pm me if interested, if anyone over seas is interested, I can try to get a quote for shipping.

General Discussion / Fitted tacho today, interesting finds.
« on: July 05, 2011, 09:44:54 AM »
This is really quite trivial, but while fitting the tacho to my ZX50 today I had to take the front panel off to route the wire down to the coil. While feeding the wire I noticed two wires on the scoot were rubbing on each other. Though they were not touching the frame and risking an earth short, they had worn through the insulation on one wire and almost through the other. I put some 3mm heatshrink over them for insulation and tied together to stop further rubbing. As I already had a new regulator that I bought a couple of weeks ago, I decide to fit it while I had the access, now it seems that the headlight doesn't flicker with the indicators. I thought that when a regulator died it would just be a case of now it works and now it doesn't. I am about to go out on the scoot in a few minutes so will see if the light is any better. I thought the headlight flicking with the indicators was from a weak battery.
A bit of useless info, but when working on your scoot, have a quick look at any wires, you may prevent a breakdown and save yourself some money, frustration and a scoot that won't go when you most need it.

Technical | How To / Kymco ZX50/Honda Dio transmission
« on: June 17, 2011, 01:46:03 AM »
G'day all, I decided to post in this section for a little more exposure.
I believe the Honda Dio gears won't fit the ZX50. I was wondering if buying the primary and secondary gears together would make a conversion possible? Any thoughts on this are welcome, looking for any info, good or bad.
Cheers,
Sid.

General Discussion / Kymco 50cc drive belt sizes
« on: June 10, 2011, 12:29:33 PM »
G'day all, some time ago someone posted a thread about drive belt sizes. I don't remember who it was, or what section it was in.
I am in need of a new belt, I have a 729-17.7-30 coming from scrappydog scooters, I also have a 732-18.5-8 coming from Dayco. I don't know whether these will fit, but I have seen 743 advertised for the ZX50. The belt that is on mine now measures 720mm long. This is the genuine belt, part no. 23100-KCX-9000.
When I rang a dealer in Adelaide today asking for a belt for the ZX50, he said he had one in stock, but when he mentioned the part no.
23100-KEB7-9000 I mentioned the wrong part no. and he had a look and found the 23100-KCX-9000 and compared them . According to this fellow, the KEB7 supersedes the KCX.
I got onto Stadium yamaha website and looked through the various models, it seems that the ZX50 is the only one to use the 23100-KCX-9000 belt
The following models use a 23100-KEB7-900:
Agility 50
Vitality 50 4T
Super 9 a/c 2007

zx50 / CVT Upgrade
« on: June 06, 2011, 09:40:42 AM »
G'day all, engine has started rattling at idle and, to be honest, I didn't pick it for what it was, the variator slide bushes chewed and gone. I now think that increasing the power is taking it's toll on the tranny. The belt face of the variator is pitted badly and the clutch pulley faces are also pitted but not as bad. Does anyone have recommendations for a cvt upgrade that will last? I will post some pics of the variator soon as I can.

zx50 / ZX50 Build,,, Again!!!
« on: March 31, 2011, 11:57:14 AM »
G'day all, I have been at it again. Have managed to get some money together and buy some more bits for the scoot. I am still going to keep my exhaust, for now, but I have just fitted a new variator as the slides in the old one were worn. I have bought a new cylinder kit, 47mm and a 44mm crankshaft. Once I make up a crank puller I will strip the engine and see how this new gear goes together. Unfortunately I bought a cylinder kit that was made in China, so I may have made a mistake already, but will remain optimistic. With my previous crankcase work it should be ok. Hopefully.
cheers,
sid.

G'day all, does anyone out there have a ZX50 with the high beam indication light on the instrument panel. If so, would you mind posting a pic of it for me please?
Cheers,
sid.

Eye Candy | Videos and Pics / Few Pics From Saturday 2/10/10
« on: October 03, 2010, 08:30:42 AM »
So I went for a ride yesterday, it was a nice day for it so I took the camera. I must get my act together and get a camera I can video on the bike with. The route i took coming home is a little longer than the straight through main road, but when you see the pics, you will see why it is worth it. in all honesty, the pics really don't do it justice, if I can get some video, that would show how nice it is. Obviously, I didn't do this ride on the scooter, I took the GS.
The first couple pics are from the Port Germain Gorge. The original road was put through here in 1879, for grain from the eastern side to be carted to the Pt. Germain jetty for loading onto boats.

zx50 / ZX50 Crankcase Tuning
« on: September 26, 2010, 11:40:03 PM »
Alright, I have bitten the bullet and ripped the engine out with a view to increase the inlet tract. I have never done this before, so I will be learning as I go, and hope to hell I don't muff it.
I will include some pics as I go. I have a couple of questions if anyone is able to help, I would really appreciate. Looking at one of the pics you will see where I have marked the aux. port. The existing one in the case is tiny, where the one on my cylinder is massive by comparison. How far can I go with this, without causing any problems? Or can I just go as far as I like while leaving a reasonable wall thickness.
Also, in the same pic, you can see two holes which I assume the fuel is forced through, to go to the transfer ports, should I increase these as well? The reason for doing this is that I have put on an 82cc cylinder kit, along with a 24mm carb and inlet to suit, at around half to three quarter throttle there is no more acceleration, only an increase in noise.
Any input welcome.

General Discussion / Bicycle Speedo On Scooter
« on: September 19, 2010, 10:25:33 AM »
Kymco speedos seem to be quite optimistic. When I held my GPS unit on a ride, 70kmh indicated was 61 by the GPS, 60 was 56.
So I went and bought a bicycle computer to put on the ZX. Now, I have rolled out the wheel and come up with 1422mm. The speedo unit I bought stated as being for 20" to 27" wheels. I put in my circumfrence and this speedo worked Quite well, it appeared to be in line with what I got with the GPS.
BUT BUT BUT,
81.9kmh, she dies, goes backward, 79 75 69 57 then hovers around until I start to slow down. This unit is suposed to go up to 99.9 kmh or 99.9 mph. My thinking was that the wheel is only 12" diameter, so maybe it is too many rpm for the little computer to cope with, but if so, what about 90mph, I thought maybe too much clearance between the magnet and pickup, so I closed that up to as close as I can safely, still the same.
Anyone have any ideas, or should I just accept it as a dud and buy a different brand? Not a big issue, just an annoying curiosity.

zx50 / Body Panel Removal
« on: September 15, 2010, 11:56:27 AM »
I thought I would do a how to for the body panel removal. I have had a look through the manual and think it is a little vague at best. I will include photos to help. If I have got anything wrong or have missed anything, please feel free to correct me.
As there are quite a few pics to go with this, I will log it in several posts.
Tools required:
No.2 Phillips screwdriver, 6mm Allen key, 10mm socket.

Remove the screw under the front of the seat, open the seat and remove the two bolts and two nuts holding the carrier rack, remove the oil bottle cap and rubber seal, remove the two bolts in the bottom of the met~in box. The met~in box can now be removed with the seat attached.

General Discussion / ZX50 CDI
« on: September 09, 2010, 09:12:48 AM »
G'day All,
I recently ordered a cdi and it turned up today.... but, the wiring is different.
Mine has two plugs and the new unit has only one with 5 wires. My original unit has 6 wires between the two plugs, but the light green one can be discounted because it is for the rev limiter.
I am wondering if anyone can help with how to connect it up. The wire descriptions are below.
Stock CDI

main plug
green
black/yellow
blue/yellow

Second plug
black/white
black/red

New CDI
red
yellow
black

Eye Candy | Videos and Pics / Pics from a small museum
« on: June 27, 2010, 11:23:36 AM »
G'day all, I realise these are not scooter pics, but I hope it is ok to post them. Last year we went to Peterborough to visit my wife's Nanna and while we were there we had a look at a new place a couple had opened up. It is a bed and breakfast with a sort of museum as well. I was surprised at his collection of old and unusual bikes. I thought I would post these pics as maybe some people would appreciate them.
