Are Body Parts Readily Available in the US?
« on: April 16, 2023, 01:31:45 AM »
Hiya, I'm considering a 2022 X-Town with 3,900 miles.  It's listed at $2,500 in like new condition but a little worried about getting parts if a fender or something gets damaged.  I cannot find them on line in the US.  Anyone have a site for true replacement parts and not universal?

This is kind of a major purchase so don't want to make errors.  The competitor is a 2019 Burgman 400 with less then 2,000 miles and includes a nice rear carrier but has a cracked front fender which is about $300 and currently unavailable.

But anyway, any help in located potential parts will be greatly appreciated  :)

These scooters are the same price?
If so I'd buy the Burgman...have fender repaired or used part from ebay.
Show pic to  body shop....see what they say.

The Burgman is $2,900 so fairly close in price.  So many good things being said about Kymco that either is a consideration :)  Thanks for the quick reply!  There's a few used ones on ebay, most have damage.  I usually do my own work, cheap like that  ;D ;D ;D

That Burgman is an honest 399cc's
Capable of 100,000 mile life if looked after.
Large Burgman forums.
Also the Suzuki has full parts and service bays in the USA.
Kymco has neither. Sketchy parts story is years long for Kymco.
Been poor, forever.
But, it's your buck.....

Can’t speak from personal experience on the Burgman, but do hear good things about them. Had an X-Town and loved it. Long story now have a  DTX360 to replace it. Search X-Town on here for the full story. Would I buy another?  Despite my experience, yes.

But, as Stig says, it’s your $.

@oouthere, welcome here!
If I would be in your place:

Xtown three years younger and in way better optical conditions. For spareparts is always a piece to be found or to be repaired by a bodyshop. Any "plastic" body part can be welded and repainted nowadays, even if you bring it in to them in shambles. So I would not worry too much about bodyparts.

Burgman looks to me a little bit neglected, I personally would doubt this "less then 2000 miles", maybe kilocounter was changed. As for spareparts/ bodyparts same story as for KYMCO, on order or not deliverable.

In my experience KYMCO produces quality which is only failing because owners/ people abuse this scoots by NOT maintaining,  NO oil change, NO cleaning after saltbathing, ect.
For the same $$ a younger scoot, I would go for the XTown.
Maybe you get a little discount to buy a rack and topcase.
BTW, in this forum you will get all support you need.

JB Weld might work on a cracked fender.
Take a close look at the tires, see if they reflect the odo miles in terms of wear.
Mpg might be significantly better on the X-town, if that is at all important.
2014 BV 350  "IndiGO" (fast, strong and tireless)
2006 Honda Rebel 250  "Snow Leopard" (stealthy, agile and durable)
2018 Lance Cali Classic 200i  "Black Panther" (smooth, nimble, quiet and quick)
2016 Wolf V-50 (sold)

Wanted a Kymco, ended up w a Lance, but that forum is inactive, so I am here

welcome to the forum! I think you have 2 good choices, there, but that Kymco looks really sharp! With used motorcycle prices going through the roof, $2500 for a 2022 w/3900 miles seems like a steal.

I can't answer to bodywork availability on an X Town but I can speak to it on my almost 14 year old S200. All the body plastic parts are available, pre painted! Pretty cheap, too. Kymco OEM parts.

If I ever got a wild hair and wanted to change the color of my scoot it would be cheaper to just buy all new plastics than to pay someone to paint it!

I would suggest you contact your local Kymco dealer(s) and ask if the parts are available from Kymco. You might be surprised!

Finally, as Stig said, while Kymco is not known to have a great (or even good..or decent..marginal?) dealer network in the US...the reliability has been so good that most never need a dealer. If you have some decent DIY skills you might never need a dealer.

Keep in mind the two choices, Burgman 400 and X-Town 300 are different in some major ways. The Burgman is 60 pounds heavier, and personally more difficult to work on, in my opinion. The seating position is enough different that you need to see which fits you. The Burgman 400 is a favorite for commuters, and will be reliable for many miles.  Weight is a big factor for me.

A lot of good sensible information  :)  I'm always on the lookout for a good deal and another one hit.  There's a 2007 Burgman 400 needing keys and battery plus probably other things since it has not been ridden in years.  The keys and title were lost in a hurricane flood but the bike was safe at another location.  Someone is looking at tomorrow so I'm 2nd in line, $400 but it a 4 hour drive to pick it up.

Just wanted to thank everyone for the input :)  The X-Town sold a few days ago, the cheap Burgman sold that day.
