Super 8 150 / Re: Funny noise when first taking off.
« on: June 20, 2015, 05:07:05 PM »
Been off here for a while, so I thought I'd give an update.
I found the rattle finally!!!
Turns out, I missed a bolt when checking for a loose one. It ended up being one of the bolts holding the plastic rear fender on the right side, just behind the exhaust. Can't believe I missed one THAT obvious! >:(
At least it wasn't anything mechanical.
Oh well.....got it all snugged up, and she's back to normal again, and not as embarrassing when leaving stop lights!  :D
I guess I've been pretty lucky since that's the first bolt to loosen up on the scoot, and it took 4500 miles and over a year to happen!
(Knocking on wood now!)  ;)

Could be normal, any time I go away from my scooter for a while and go drive it the belt and clutch sound funny because the rubber has had a chance to harden up a bit. Also the clutch could be glazed.

Thanks Bettin. That's what I'm hoping. I'm still gonna pop the cover on my day off and clean out any dirt and build up. After 4500 miles, I imagine there's a little funk inside there!

Sorry, I meant the stock windscreen that comes with the scoot, not the aftermarket one.  Thanks!

Sorry.
I just got my stock replacement from the dealer. About $40-45 if I remember correctly.

Super 8 150 / Funny noise when first taking off.
« on: May 15, 2015, 02:31:36 PM »
Got a dumb question.
Had the scoot parked for a couple weeks, because I've been riding my new (to me) 2006 Honda Rebel.
Got the super8 back out and noticed a funny noise.
It sounds fine when running, but when I first give it gas to start moving, I am hearing an annoying rattly sound when it starts accelerating.
Once it gets going, I don't notice any funny sounds anymore. Just when I first start from a stop.
It's a Super8 150 with 4500+ miles on it.
I'll admit that I have never had the cvt cover off in that whole time (Shame on me).
I also haven't found any lose bolts anywhere that could be rattling.
Could it be something in the cvt worn out, or could it simple need to be opened up and cleaned?
When it was parked a few weeks ago, it wasn't making this noise.
Any ideas what I should look at first. I plan on opening it up on my day off this week.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Duke, where did you order your windscreen from?  Also, does anyone know the size of the bolts, if I were to get decorative bolts instead of the windscreen

I got my windshield from Amazon. I think it was $125, but can't remember the part #.

Super 8 150 / Re: Puking Gear Oil
« on: April 05, 2015, 03:54:57 PM »
On mine, I wedged a small square of sponge in the air box, (just beneath the air filter, where the gear lube vents in), just to catch any gear lube that blows through. Keeps it out of the air filter.
When I do my oil changes, I pull the sponge out and wash it out with dishwashing soap and warm water. Then I dry it with a blow dryer, and wedge it back in. Simple and crude, but it works.

I would go ahead and put a new air filter if I were you though. I'm at 4450 miles, and I just put my 3rd air filter in a couple of weeks ago.
But, I ride in all kinds of crappy weather, AND live next to 2 oil refineries, so mine sucks up an awful lot of crap in the air around here!

Super 8 150 / Re: Losing Accelleration at WOT
« on: April 05, 2015, 03:43:31 PM »
Wayne, my Supe has done this a few times. Always after filling up. If it is slightly over filled, you could gas a little fuel escaping through the vent, into the emission cannister. That  then vents back to the carb, and can create an effect similar to flooding out when you apply throttle.
When it happens to me, I undo the gas cap, start it up, and let it run a minute or so with occasional revving, and then close the cap back up. It just lets it suck some air through the vent line.
Usually OK then. It will be a bit tempermental for a little afterwards until the emission cannister dries out.

I try not to squeeze that extra $0.50 in the tank now. Haven't had it happen for a while.

Agility 125 / Re: Scooter Lifestyle
« on: March 31, 2015, 03:36:41 PM »
I would argue it's more of a lifestyle where scooters are more common.  In the US, I would argue it's not a lifestyle but a lifestyle choice.

I ride my bike nearly every day to work in all types of weather, because I can.  I don't see "bigger, badder bikers" doing that.  It's OK though because I choose to ride that way.  Just don't mock my scoot with 20K on it when your bike has only 3K on it!

Just ride.   8)

I can relate to that. I rode my Super8 150 all year. Even in the freezing temps.
Most of the folks I hang around are "Real Bikers"  ::) , so I got a little joking when I got the scoot. But as you mentioned, all the big bikes, Harley's in particular, get locked up in a nice cozy garage if a single drop of rain falls. After riding all year, in all kinds of weather, my biker friends don't give me crap about the scoot anymore. They even go as far as defending the scoot when new people make a comment.

I don't think of myself as a scooterist. I'm just a rider. I love my scoot, and I love the motorcycle I'm getting ready to buy (even if it is just a 250).
I try to not get caught up in the whole "lifestyle" thing, or the scooters versus motorcycles debate. I see us all just as riders. So just go out and ride. Don't worry about trying to classify it.

The late Indian Larry once said, "Ride what YOU like, as long as you're riding. Don't worry about what anyone else thinks."

Super 8 150 / Re: Fix for Kymco 8 light problem!!
« on: March 31, 2015, 02:55:47 PM »
Lights on son-n-laws 2011 Super 8 150 go very dim at idle, is this the same problem you were having?  I thought maybe weak battery, but have not tried better battery, just living with problem.  Not a problem in daylight, but at night seems unsafe.  Thanks

Lights going dim is normal. That's what the LCM does. It cuts the power to the headlights down to about half power when you stop. It's supposed to be for saving power in the charging system. Personally, I think it's just unsafe to cut the headlight power.

If the LCM faults out, It will kill the headlights altogether!  That's a disaster waiting to happen. It works fine with the LCM bypassed, and the battery still charges fine. I've ridden 4400 miles all year, even in the winter months, and I've never used a battery tender once!

Super 8 150 / Re: New super 8 questions.
« on: March 31, 2015, 11:29:06 AM »
The new Super8 isn't really a Super8 anymore. They basically merged the Supe and the Agility into one model.
It's basically an Agility fitted with the Super8 150 engine, instead of the Agility's 125 engine. And, they redesigned the bodywork a bit and slapped on new badges.
The naked bars ARE cool as hell though!
I like the new model, but it's just NOT a Super8 anymore. I refer to it as a "Super Agility".

Super 8 150 / Re: Good vibrations
« on: March 31, 2015, 11:20:03 AM »
Hey again,
First ride for the season I took her out for a typical sample run to work and downtown, took about an hour and twenty minutes (which was awesome!) but when I got her up to 65 (on speedo)  the seat started to vibrate.
Is this just a feature for higher speeds on this thing?  OR is something completely off and do I need to spend a few bucks at the garage?

The Supe has really stiff suspension, and at faster speeds, every road will feel like you're riding on a washboard surface. Add to that, the seat foam is pretty hard on the Super8, and just adds to the effect. It's not designed to be comfortable at top speed. Around town, up to about 45mph, it's fine. 50mph and up, and it can feel a bit sketchy!

Super 8 150 / Re: Advice for Really Cold Riding
« on: March 31, 2015, 11:13:16 AM »
As far as cold starts go, I have to warm my 2012 Super8 150 for a good 10 minutes if the temps are below 40 degrees F.
Carburated engines are always cold natured in the winter. Had the same issues with a couple of old cars I used to own.
When the engine's cold, it probably won't allow any throttle input at all without stalling out.
Once it's fully warmed up, my Supe runs perfect in cold weather. And I've ridden in single digit temps this winter.
I will agree with Bettin on cleaning the carb. It could get some buildup in the jets after a bit.
I had mine cleaned last fall, when it was at the dealer, and I run an ounce of Seafoam every 3rd or 4th tank as preventative.
Dealer said the carb had virtually no buildup when they cleaned it. Seafoam is great for preventative, but as stated, it WON'T clean a dirty carb.

Super 8 150 / Re: A windshield that fits my Super 8.....kinda....
« on: March 31, 2015, 10:02:11 AM »
Excellent!!! I am asking this question now just before purchasing a Super 8 150 2013 model.  I need a windshield!  I may not even buy it if I can't do this.  It is very important to me.

Where can I order this windshield? Is there a video you posted to see this closer.  Sorry have not went through all the reply's here yet.

Kathryn.

I got mine from Amazon.

One update--
I ended up removing the Puig shield in January. Nothing wrong with the shield, but the foam strip I used on the nose froze solid in the freezing temps, and rattled like a machine gun when the scoot was running. A bit annoying, so I took it off.
If I keep the scoot, I may just remove the factory (useless) sceen and run the puig alone.
I'm picking up a small motorcycle in a couple weeks, so I haven't decided if I'm gonna keep the Super8, or sell it off yet.

Had to do the same to mine last summer.
The headlight control module (LCM) is crap, and seems to fail all the time.
Mine was replaced under warranty twice! When it failed a third time, I bypassed it.
I've got 4400 miles on the scoot now, with no further headlight problems.

I got to checking things again, and found that it was the brakes dragging after all.
I've never had them off in the 4000 miles I've ridden. I've just used Stig's trick of using my small digital camera to see in and check the pad thickness.  I believe they built up a little glazing on the pads over the year and the rotor MAY have a very slight warp. Not 100% sure on the warp, but I'm going to go ahead and order a new one, just in case. And, I'm going to pull the pads, and clean them with a scotchbrite pad and brake cleaner to de-glaze the surface.
If it still acts up afterward, I'll let everyone know as I go through the other suspects.
