oil light flicker
« on: January 08, 2010, 10:52:46 AM »
Hello. My name is Andre! new to this forum and Kymco xciting 500
I have noticed that if i brake hard the oil light flickers for a few seconds.
I gather that its the oil that moves forward and therefore starving the oil picup of oil??
Is it normal? should i worry? the scooter has 1600km on the clock!
Very happy xcept small things like speedo accuracy etc.

How about checking the oil level directly with the dip stick?

ts1 is right, check the oil level.  That is not normal and I would suspect low oil level.  The x500 does not hold that much oil in the first place.  You are getting near that 1st oil change things are still new and breaking in.  I would suspect it was not properly filled when you picked it up when new.  If it was, you have a leak somewhere or it was burned during the break in.  Ether way check the level, now.  If full take in and have your dealer check it out.

Thanks for the input! but its the first thing i checked is the oil level! its had its 1st service and its got synthetic oil in now!
Must also say that it does not happen every time ....only the once ore twice that i realy had to apply breaks hard!

Oil light can flicker under hard braking even on cars. It depends on your definition of "hard braking".
You can find this even in manuals of some sports bikes.

You must be talking really hard braking...  Guess I haven't had the opportunity to stop that hard.  That being the case and the oil level ok I wouldn't worry about it.

I would still have the dealer Document the problem. Could be a bad pressure sender, or a faulty pump/ seal.

Ive seemd to have solved it by ading a little oil to its absulute max position! I normaly dont fill it to the top as i am scared of over filling ! I can remember years ago there was a Austrin Marina  car here in SA that all gave engine problems because they all had faulty dipsticks which resulted in over filling.
I realy find this sight so interesting and informative! Thanks for all the input.

That is my point. I have replaced dozens of pressure senders on all types of engines/motors, and they all fail sooner or later. Some sooner
