Technical | How To / Part of an explanation on cylinder/case set up
« on: July 16, 2015, 10:50:39 PM »
I'm helping a member set up an engine. This is from a PM... Maybe some of this will help the rest of you understand what is happening inside these scoots (2t's).

I can help more if you need it...

"Yes the crank 1/2's can very easily twist on the con rod pin. You have to support only the side you are working on. Let the other side just hang in space.

On some of the better bearing sets there will be a thin band of Nylon on the outer race. The area that gets pressed into the case. That goes toward the inside IF you have it.
The nylon cage itself does not matter which side. Actually the Nylon cage is only quieter than the standard steel or the better bronze cage. Some people think they are better but in truth they are not. Bronze will outlast the engine cases. The problem with them is the hot/cool cycles. They get brittle, and fall apart. Just like plastic in the sun.

If you plan to keep the bike for 4-5 years then I would consider getting better bearings. If you want to sell it sooner... no issue.

I wouldn't use the toaster oven either. It will melt the cages. I would use a pot of boiling water or a pre heated oven.
The toaster oven goes full power untill it reaches temp. then it throttles down. You need at least an hour in a pre heated oven or same time in a pot of boiling water. Water hits 212* f, and no hotter. It's the safe bet
BUT you will only gain perhaps 0.0002-3" on expansion. Thats why I suggest to be ready with the press. You will need it.

Temp on the piston... Melting point is somewhere near 1200 - 1400* f depending on the alloy
Normal combustion temp is around 16-1800 * f. 400 is the magic number that many use for exterior head temp. I NEVER use this number because you can close the throttle on a long downhill, and see 5-600*f in heat soak, even tho the cylinder temp is cooling.

Here's a good article on this... http://www.contactmagazine.com/Issue54/EngineBasics.html
The Ignition timing on the Zuma begins around 15*BTDC just like all the other scooters, and slopes straight down to 0* at 12krpm. What this "curve does is gradually push the cylinders heat out into the pipe.
The ONLY chance of melting a piston is from Pre-Ignition (carbon/sharp edges, like a piston edge or spark plug hole, port edge, casting marks on the piston dome OR lean mixtures creating pre Ignition.

Detonation is controlled by the squish band. The band forces burning gasses into the center of the flame front to prevent runaway combustion. Listen close for crackling in the pipe. That crackle is detonation. You need more cool fuel mix to stop it and or a tighter squish depending on the head.

A relatively shallow or flat across head is more prone to detonation, and needs a tighter squish. A bell shaped head or high dome head needs less squish.

If you have or can find a large ball grinder or make one from sandpaper, and a golf ball, it pays to hollow the center of the head. You'll lose a few compression ratio points but lowering the jug to just a note paper gasket (if you can) will gain ax rpm, and reduce the chance of detonation.

It's a f***ing can of worms. One little thing messes with everything else. Even the wrong rollers can mess up a perfect cylinder... I hate scooters.

My bud just got back from France, and a new record deal.

He's doing 27 shows in the panhandle, and then off to Australia.

Two songs from the new album... One is a 2012 release but they re-mastered it for this album, The God Song.
The second is new to this album, Waiting.

If you are a Face space freak, check him out. He replies to everyone.

General Discussion / Checking in...
« on: June 11, 2015, 03:26:11 PM »
Hey guys,

Just checking in. About a jillion projects all happening at the same time.
Building the Triumph, re-building 2 new engines for the ZX, finishing the lab, and beginning the build on the hydrofoil.

Add that to studies, and work... almost a dead zombie but not quite.

I'll post in tonight to say hey, and catch up.

Hope life is golden for all of you. Hugs, kisses, and nut shots to all.

General Discussion / Get it! This is a scooter forum...
« on: January 11, 2015, 05:06:34 AM »
I also understand that the "click" here is into MUCH more than just scooters.

We have a symbiotic relationship where what is meant is more powerful than what is said.
Perhaps there are 2 dozen of us here that really connect on an unspoken level, and the anonymity of the WEB keeps us safe.

I propose forgetting this, and keeping it more real...

Try to find things/links/videos, that mean something to your inner self, and sharing them.

Kind of a sticky thread for head cases. You all know me. I am viable/visible/and accessible. Maybe like "truth or Dare" this could get out of control but in the end... Who exactly cares. The sharing of beliefs, and information is MUCH more important (IMHO).

I'll start it off w/ something that I am just learning about... TRUE Higher consciousness.

Our brains are made of chemicals. These chemicals are all around us, and in everything. One molecule off, and we are weeds.
Weeds changed by one molecule are us.

Genetics, and Darwinism appeared to be the "New Order". That appeared to have the solution as to what/who we are, and where we came from.

Genetics as a "NEW" medium is WRONG. It's like playdough.

Molecular structure is what EVERYTHING is based on, and WE are WEEDS! WE are AIR. WE are the very plastic keyboards WE are typing on. WE are EVERYTHING!

I have so much more to say but I am going to the store to buy a pack of smokes.

I only hope the clarity that I have at this moment is seen, and appreciated. WE are EVERYTHING THAT IS AROUND US! Always have been.

Yeah I get it... A bunch of Hippie sh**... BUT

Follow the bread crumbs. Fluoride !!! Guess what that REALLY does... Molecular facts!

http://fluoridealert.org/issues/health/pineal-gland/

We're ALL victims.

I stoped drinking city water about 8 months ago. I also stopped buying toothpaste w/ Fluoride.

Guess when my life began to change... Today!

Forget the Hippie sh** in the vid. (same as the Bible sh**). This all goes backwards from my topic.

MOLECULES! That's what we are. We can add/subtract/modify them to create what WE want. Don't you believe THEY know this too?

Take control of what you are. Re-think what you are.

I believe all of you that THINK you are in complete control could benefit from a smack in the face. You're NOT in control. You are in maintenance mode.
Doctor? Lawyer? Engineer?

Who did you really help today? How many homeless did you pass on the off ramp? How many did you see lying on the sidewalk as you walked to the office from the subway, and did NOTHING?

You think it's up to THEM to make their life better? NO. It's up to YOU!

I drink. I smoke. I dabble. I am learning. I am only trying to help.

Perspective!

General Discussion / American failure part II

Get a speeding ticket.
Go to court.
Plead not guilty
Ask for your CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT to a jury trial by your peers.
Get your free (or paid) lawyer.
Swear before God (who's not there. Why would he be... There is a separation between Church, and State) to tell the TRUTH, the WHOLE TRUTH, and NOTHING but the TRUTH. (so help me God).

Tell your story/They tell theirs...

I have a story you all might not want to hear... so decide now to click next, or read on.

Someone who isn't me, (SWIM) was accused of some mediocre violations of minor rules.
SWIM new that these minor violations Could be taken as something more.

SWIM'S lawyer suggested "making a "deal"".
SWIM said...(I can't post that part)

SWIM went to dinner at a nice restaurant w/ some friends to mull this over.

Guess who was sitting at a table ten feet away? The states attorney that SWIM had to face in court.

BRAINSTORM! SWIM, orders a bottle of wine for Mr. Attorneys table/Pays his check for the meal/Asks for a receipt.
SWIM,Takes a "selfie" form 10 feet away (being sure to get the check, and attorneys table in the pict), and goes home.

One week later SWIM goes to court, and has his phone w/ him. Same sh** as always... Make a deal...
On the other hand the local news would savor a bribery story... True or NOT!

Guess what! Case dismissed! Lack of evidence. That's the last time I ever (got caught) "J"walking in N.Y.C.
Look it up... It's all true! (maybe it was "K" walking, but close enough)

Technical | How To / Simple 2t explanation...

I just copied this from one of my replies. I impressed myself.

That's exactly what I mean. The red line rpm doesn't matter as long as the cruise rpm is within the powerband,

You want to be able to cruise the bike at what sounds good (never mind the tach), and still have some power left above that.
The pipe, and the cylinder (in the big picture) have to match. You'll learn this as you read more. No offense.

Cylinders are ported. these ports are specific sizes. The size, and placement effect the rpm that the cylinder likes to run.
The pipe is nothing more than a pump. This pump pushes air backwards into the cylinder. (sounds wrong eh!)
This pump forces un-burnt gasses backwards into the cylinder to be burned (again).

That's how a 2t works. It's NOT in one stroke of combustion. It's in two strokes that repeat over again. Reading more on 2t cylinders  http://iheartstella.com/resources/manuals/tuning/Graham-Bell-Two-Stroke-Performance-Tuning.pdf
You will see what I mean.

The pipe creates a sound wave (echo) that pushes gasses back into the exhaust port to be mixed w/ the new vaporized fuel charge. since this is a MIX of hot gaeese, and raw (cool ) fuel it has an octane rating that can com-bust in a controlled manner. ie: no "ping".

I forget where this was going, and I don't want to look back...

Every PART of a 2t is linked to create a perfect balance. Putting a 9k rpm pipe on a 7k rpm cylinder does NOTHING but waste money. It many times makes LESS power than a stock pipe. (Latin so Stig can understand) the rest of you can use Zombie to English translate.
BUT you can take a 7k cylinder, and raise the ports, and widen the ports to make a 9K cylinder for free.

Now to be clear I HATE this guy (DIO SPEED DEMON) He's wrong as many times as right.
But to be sure... Follow Grams book, and learn the principals. If you really want more info on fine tuning ask me. Dio SP D. is wrong on a lot of things but I know better.
Porting, and pipes are like George, and Gracie or Ralph, and Alice.
They are no good without each other.

Happy to help..."

I hope it helps~~~ to think. Just dis regard the word "Bible". It's only an example...

General Discussion / Cool Wall.paper (IMHO)
« on: January 08, 2015, 05:57:10 PM »
My buddy Doc owns a distillery in Australia (Dobsons).

He makes some wonderful hootch, and is making quite a name for himself. That's not really the point here tho...

His artwork is. His web sight, and bottle labels are insane! I'll link these for you to see.

The other night he posted up a preview of his new Gin label, and I just HAD to use it for my wallpaper. I showed him how nice it was, and he kindly gave me permission to use/share it. He then very kindly made up another "combo" of some of his other labels for an official wall.paper.

Feel free to try them out...   Just right click the image, and "Save image as" to D'load it. From there right click, and hit "Use as Desktop".  I love them.

Here's what it looks like on my PC...
