General Discussion / Hi all from OBX
« on: August 31, 2009, 06:44:01 PM »
Already posted up a couple times but never did an intro so here it is.

Hey all, Mike from the Outer Banks, NC, specifically the little town of Manteo on Roanoke Island.  Moved here 4 months ago and was immediately looking around for a scooter.  Being handy with motorcycle repair (been riding and fixing them since I was 5 years old) I wasn't too concerned with buying a non japanese bike although I'm a huge Honda fan.  I ended up buying a Roketa from a local dealer (I know that's probably a bad word on this forum).  Anyhow I stopped by the shop I bought it from a few times and luckily for me the owner was outside struggling to fix a scooter each time.  Offered my services and worked my way into a job.

I get all makes, models and sizes here.  Recently I've had quite a few Kymco's come through the door.  Currently have 2 Agility 50's and a ZX50 in for repair.  ZX needs a total overhaul and that is currently underway.  Posted up the problem I had with the first Agility with no luck so far on a solution.  The second Agility is now diagnosed and I posted up the problem and solution in hopes of helping someone else.

Agility 50 / Problem and Solution
« on: August 31, 2009, 06:33:20 PM »
In hopes of saving someone else a ton of time and a headache I figured I'd put up a recent problem and solution I ran into on an Agility 50 that came into the shop.

Bike would turn over but wouldn't fire when it was brought in.  Working off the principle of needing spark, gas and air I started by pulling the plug to check it out, looked good, cleaned it up and put it back in.  Put a test plug in to check for spark, nothing using the kick starter.  Was about to start testing the coil wire but on a whim I decided to try it using the starter switch.  I turned on the ignition and the plug was arcing without even touching the starter switch.  Did a quick check in the manuals I downloaded a while back and couldn't find where this problem was addressed.  Also checked this forum.  I figured I had a bad ground somewhere and tore off all the body and front panels.

Long story short the CDI was bad.  Plugged in a new one and the bike fired right up.  Got some carb issues but that isn't related to the original problem.

Hope this helps someone.

Agility 50 / Re: Starter Solenoid Experiences?
« on: August 19, 2009, 05:00:19 PM »
Had a similar problem on my Roketa 50cc where it would only catch 10-15% of the time.  Replaced the solenoid and it works like a champ.  Odd thing I found is the Chinese/Taiwanese Service and Repair Manual I have doesn't point to it as being a problem or symptom of the starter not spinning or only periodically spinning.  Go figure.

Agility 50 / Click, Click, Click
« on: August 06, 2009, 02:37:15 PM »
Click, click, click is all I get out of my friends Kymco Agility 50.  Battery is stellar, tested the voltage all the way to the starter and it is good according to the online manuals I found and downloaded because of this forum (thanks).  I've got spark, tested the primary and secondary coils using an ohm meter, fuses are good, obviously the relay is good since I can hear it clicking. The only thing I can see that isn't testing the way it should (once again according to the manuals) is the CDI.  I also tried kick starting the thing until my leg felt like it was going to fall off to no avail.

Saw another similar post about this but didn't see a resolution to the problem.

Can anyone point me in the right direction or is it most likely the CDI causing this problem?

The weird part is I own a Roketa that has an intermittent and similar problem.  My starter only kicks in once in about 20 tries.

Great forum with a lot of useful information.
