Wear your Gear!
« on: March 14, 2015, 12:31:58 PM »
I can't stress the importance of wearing gear when riding. After only the bike's second day out of storage, I had a close call encounter with a guy on the FDR whose excuse was his blind spot warning did not pick me up. Let's just say after a taste of highway, to get up with just a sore wrist, ripped jacket and pants, and scuffed fairing plastic I'm all good. Drivers look over your shoulder please.

Glad to hear you're pretty much OK.

What's the FDR?

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

The FDR ,or East River Drive, runs the east side of NYC. It can be a bit of a Zoo.
Happy this chap is doing ok.

Glad to read you're relatively ok. Thank God!

Many, many, years ago, when I was a fairly new rider, I had a slow speed incident, lucky. I was wearing a helmet, leather jacket and gloves for protection. Gear held up perfectly. Jeans and two week old tennies, not so well. To this day, I have a nickel size scar above my right knee as a reminder of that day. Ever since, I wear full gear.

Additionally, when I first started tracking and racing mini moto's, I had a lot of learning experiences and still have my leathers. All the tarmac scuffs are a great reminder of what my body would look like, had I not worn any protection. I would be all but a walking scar tissue.

X-Ray showed no broken bones in my wrist. Just ice and time will heal.

Just recently purchased a full modular helmet with a LED light in the back that can be sent to be on, blink and blink faster. Added reflective tape, and will do the same to my scooter once my top case is added this week.

I have an armored riding jacket, good boots, and will be looking into official riding gloves in the future.

This past weekend I drove from Philly to the Jersey shore. On my way back I saw five riders -- on motorcycles. Only one had full, proper attire. The other 4 wore helmets because of Jersey's law. One had on a T-shirt and the other three wore tank tops. I was doing about 70 and they easily passed me doing what I guess was 75-85.

Idiots. I hope they made it home safe. Can't imagine how it would feel to have a piece of gravel, glass, or a nail hit your bare skin doing more than 70. A cicada once hit my helmet visor when I was doing about 30. Rocked my head completely back.

It 90+ F and 100% humidity here and gettin' worse. Gonna be 100 deg F this coming weekend. I have to struggle to make myself get in the Bilt suit with the armor but I do it. Momma come up with a "honey-do" that can be done on the scoot and I'm on it! I saw the picture on the ATGATT post of that guy's foot and just about passed out! But that is the point.
