Is this a fair trade?
« on: June 18, 2015, 07:21:33 PM »
I have a gentleman that is wanting to trade his 2005 Suzuki Burgman(sp?) 400 for my 2014 Kymco Like. He wasn't able to sell it unfortunately, I don't even have the information as far as how many miles it has on it, but before I called him back, wanted to find out if this was a fair trade from you guys/gals. I've been wanting a bigger/more comfortable scooter...

Thanks for the input!

It's the 400 version, from the pic it looks pretty clean. He was asking $2,400 for it, which is about what I just paid for my brand new kymco like out the door. Granted, he's getting a free 2 year warranty. I'd have it checked out by a motorcycle mechanic of course.

On KBB, a standard 400 Burgman trade in value is about $1900, Retail value is around $2800.
The 2014 Like 200 retailed new for apx $2600 MSRP. The burgman is worth more but trading a 2014 for an 2005? Your call.

You can buy like 200s all day long for $1800 to $2000, the issue for me on the burg would be milage and condition, also was the maintenance kept up with. Burgs have a very expensive belt to replace if needed. They're advertised to last 100k. That would depend on who's driving it. An old fart or a young kid racing it. Your call, both are nice rides. Why is he trying to unload it for a 200 [163cc] scooter? Ask questions, use your intuition and test drive it before hand. Any shop receipts to backup his version of maintenance? Good luck!

His Burgman has 21k miles on it. Said he had a back injury and was wanting a lower CC bike. I've decided to pass on the deal. Didn't want to trade a brand new bike for a 9 year old one  :o

Besides, the Like looks cool.

The miles don't bother me, 21k not much on a burgman. Hell one of my Cali Classic 125sis up around 13k never a burp.

The big question is how was it maintained during those miles.

All he has to do is easy-up on the throttle and he would have a lower speed scooter and the smaller scooter would have more of a bumpy ride anyway for a bad back

Red is my favorite color by far. I find the Like 200 (from an exterior standpoint) to be cheap looking. The plastic don't seem to be up-to-par as the Taiwanese made scooters from Kymco. Fit & finish is just ok IMHO. It's a solid deal with FI & dual disc brakes. I think it would be appreciated more with a smaller person. For me (6'1" @ 240 lbs.) I would look silly on one.
