Title: No Kymco Presence in Nevada
Post by: kingkymco125 on February 06, 2017, 11:52:03 PM
Hello fellow Kymco Riders:

I have been off this forum for quite awhile. I had to take care of my own financial issues. I am up on these.
The Vegas dealer for Kymco has closed. The word is they declared bankruptcy. With the new scooter law that passed, it might be at least two years before Kymco decides to come back to Vegas. The new law for the 50cc scooters went into effect last November. All the small bikes now need to be registered.  Within two years they will have to be insured too. All motorcycles never to be smogged. Within the next year all motorcycles including scooters will have to have a smog test.

I really love my 2012 Kymco Agility scooter 125cc. The original battery lasted for four years too. No matter what, I still love my kymco bike. She loves to go and has literally been everywhere here in the Vegas metro area. St. Paulie girl, my bike has been down to the Pioneer saloon in Good Springs up to Mount Charleston. She is a real trooper.

I hope somebody from Kymco USA reads this post and contacts one of the motorcycle dealers to bring back their product to Vegas. I do not like the Chinese bikes. They are not as well built as the Kymco bikes are. Vegas needs Kymco.

Thats pretty impressive riding your Kymco up Mt. Charleston. Thats one long climbing, curvy road. My wife and I had dinner at the lodge at the roads end a few years back. The temperature difference was refreshing!

Truly sad, but if you liked the Agility you may want to see if you can get a deal on an SMAX.
It specs nicely, & is in a similar form factor.  You can get 'em at a discount right now.  They sold some but still have some left in the dealers.
If they had the big wheel version in this country I'd probably buy it.

Cheers
Tromper

Source?  NOT a stipulation of SB404 . . Nevada DMV (http://www.dmvnv.com/moped.htm).

Nevada Powersports (https://www.facebook.com/nevadapowersports/) is selling Sym/Lance, Genuine, and Bintelli/Adly.

50cc first timers still seem to want the cheapest . . which is probably TaoTao and IceBear.  Pacific Motor Scooters (http://www.pacificwholesale.com/index.html) was selling unassembled TaoTao ATM50-A1's for around $500 plus tax in 2016.

I will have to checkout Nevada Power Sports. The name is similar to Vegas Power Sports. Maybe it is the same owner who sold the Kymcos. I do not like Pacific Wholesale. The guy is an asshole. I brought my first 50cc scooter from him in 2010. He is a f***en dick. Now he is in my neighborhood. I prefer not to do business with. However, he has AMS oil which I will buy for my bike.

A friend of mine who used to work on scooters told me that within two years all the small bikes will need to be insured as well as smoged.

Not presently seeing any moped related 2017 Legislature BDR's (https://www.leg.state.nv.us/Session/79th2017/BDRList/page.cfm) . . but several for recreational marijuana.

Wow. Getting a smog check on a motorcycle is a tough one. That is not even required in the Socialist Republic of California. Registering the small bikes may be a good thing. At least there would be a way of tracing stolen scooters.
Funny that I recently looked up Goodsprings, and the Pioneer saloon, after seeing the Nevada commercial again.

Right now the smog and insurance is just rumors, amongst the legislator's
The new DMV on Sahara has a small dyno machine for scooters and motorcycles.
Nevada law states that registered vehicles driven on public must have minimum liability insurance except scooters and mopeds under 50cc. The legislator's want to remove the exception.

Perhaps a part of the "Emissions Lab" mentioned in the news release (http://dmvnv.com/news/16024-sahara-grand-opening.htm)?  Have you actually witnessed any 50cc scooters being horsepower-dyno-tested on this unit?

I like seeing all of those Ice Bear 250cc three wheelers when they cruise downtown. They are not legal here.

I love the Pioneer Saloon. I have been there a bunch of times with my local scooter club and in my own car. It is also where Clark Gable stayed to find out news about his wife Carol Lambart.

The guy from Nevada Power Sports has spoken to Kymco USA and I guess they want to still have a Vegas presence.

But it almost was. There was talk in 2003 or 2004 of working toward smog testing motorcycles in California but I don'the know whatever happened and haven't ever heard anything more about it.
