do it yourself. there is nothing you can't do yourself even with 0 expierence.
youtube oil change, gear oil change, valve adjustment
the only thing which I am hesitant to touch are the brakes which probably need some work at 5k miles

What's the update on this pipe? How's it performing? Speed diff? Sound? etc.

I would be interested in the performance boost as well, not sure if I want pay 300USD for an scooter which is now worth probably 1000usd.

Your other option are bar end mirrors. Just a quick browse over the net, I found CRG has a couple of styles; round, and arrow. I may look into these, if need be.

I'm in Cali too (Nor*Cal) and had recently acquired an S8 to commute with. Having a Corolla and a full size pick-up, I found the S8 mirrors don't clear neither vehicles, in a tight spot. If vehicles offer enough distance / space for a safe passing (splitting / filtering), there should be no issue.

I noticed the height of the S8 mirrors is on the same level as most cars have theirs. I feel more confident lane splitting with my yamaha r6 then S8 in city traffic. will try the cheaper option of extenders and move them inwars, not sure what view I will get, but I comfortable lane splitting seems more important then nice mirror view

ordered the same, thanks for the tips, will post some pics once done and tell how it works

I have mirror extenders from Amazon too. Like blackhawk, I use them to move the mirrors out for better rear view. Lane splitting is illegal here in Illinois anyway. But they could possibly work to move them in.

Here's a pic of what they look like.

What if you got the risers and turned them ineards so that your mirror post screws would be closer to the middle of the bike.  I have them but they are turned outwards to get more of a view behind me.

interesting, where did you buy the risers

the factory mirrors on the s8 150 drive me nuts while lane splitting L.A. traffic. Considering taking them off
anybody got a working alternative? and don't come me with this don't lane split crap unless you live here and sit in traffic all day

Super 8 150 / Re: How long will you ride WOT?
« on: July 15, 2014, 07:40:54 PM »
as much as you want really, i've usually run it on max as long as the road allows in my area, which is couple miles/minutes.

After your scoot was broken in, how long do you feel comfortable riding with the throttle wide open? Is it bad for the scoot to be wide open on flat roads for long distances?

Thanks!

super 8 150 is 149cc which is not highway legal (at least in CA)

WOT for extended periods is bad for any motor. I wouldn't do it for more than a mile or 2.
I have just over 1000 miles on mine, and I've only hit WOT once. That was only because I wanted to see what she had.
My Super 8 will hit around 55mph (approx. 62-64 on the speedo) with a little throttle left.
Regardless, you should always vary the throttle as you go to give the engine small bits of relief to avoid burning it up.
The sweet spot I've found is between 40-50 mph. It'll run those speeds all day with no complaints.
The Super 8 150 is NOT a highway bike! If you need to do prolonged highway speeds, you really need a bigger scoot.

NO VEHICLE SHOULD BE RUN AT FULL THROTTLE FOR MORE THAN SHORT BURSTS.

That's just my opinion. Let the debate begin!

you're right, they are horrible on wet pavement, here in socal the pavement is dry for the most part so I haven't been noticing it too much. but occasionally going over some water (burst pipe) in a curve the bike started slipping at very low speed - I was wondering like wtf is this

That's because the Cheng Shins are really hard tires. They last a long time with little or no wear. But, the hard tires don't grip worth a crap on wet pavement.
Mine have 2000 miles, and still look like new. I'm fairly conservative when I ride, so I haven't really had any issues with the stock tires. But, I have noticed on the couple of times when I need to do a short hop on a 55 mph road, that those hard nylon tires make the most GOD-AWFUL whining noise at speed.
I'm definitely looking for different tires when the time comes.

installed racing spark plug, adjusted throttle free play, replaced air filter
and scooter runs like new or better! I can't believe the difference in agility, especially for city traffic
got my 5mph back at top end, altough this is not really of importance for that type of cycle

thanks a lot for help and greeting from L.A.

seems like a nice thing, however here in CA it would make lane splitting even harder. even the stock mirror are pretty wide, i constantly hit other peoples mirrors while squeezing through the traffic

yeah, i live within 2 miles of L.A. coast
this thing appeared recently though after 2 years of service, and seafoam helped so far did not have problem
thanks for tip going to fall to the mixture as a last resort

Do you live at sea level or close to sea level?

If so, it might be due to the air/fuel mixture screw needing to be adjusted.

Due to emissions standards, the Super 8s come from the factory with the air/fuel ratio on the low side.  I live close to the beach and when I first got my Super 8, it would hesitate to accelerate from a stop just as you're describing.

I turned out the air/fuel mixture screw and this helped out the situation a lot.  The only problem is that the air/fuel mixture screw is under a metal cap that you have to drill out or if you're lucky, you'll be able to use a small flat head screwdriver and pry the cap off.  And then you'll find that the screw doesn't have a slot to insert a screwdriver so you'll have to use some really fine needle nose pliers to turn the screw counter-clockwise.

Also, you might need to re-jet as well as the stock main jet is a tiny 103 size but I would try turning out the air/fuel screw first as it doesn't cost you anything to do.

SEAFOAM did seem to help! thanks a lot for the tip, also got a 2usd spark plug from oreilly today and ordered some air filter
do you got any ideas why my top end is lower then it is used to be, i barely seem to make 50mph where it used to be 55-60mph (i know that the speed display adds 5mph or so anyways)

If the spark plug hasn't been touched in 4500 miles, change it. See if it makes a difference.
I changed mine after 1000 miles because it fowled.
Carquest and O'Reilly's Auto Parts has NGK CR7HSA plugs for about $2.30. Cheap insurance to change it on a regular basis.
Also, put about an ounce of Seafoam in the gas and see if it helps. Otherwise, open the carb and clean all the jets.

If it's doing it at max throttle, check that your auto choke is working right. If it's not closing, it could be flooding the carb out.

scooter has 4500 miles. carb was never cleaned nor the spark plugs. transmission, valves and gear oil done at specified intervals

How much throttle are you giving it when taking off?
It has to hit a certain rpm before the cvt opens up and grabs. I have to give it about half throttle to take of normal. Anything less and it moves like a snail.

Also, is it new or old? If it's got some miles on it, have you had the cvt serviced at any point for normal wear?
