Is the DT your first, or only bike?
« on: November 18, 2011, 09:08:09 PM »
I'm curious, how many of you have other bikes, or is this it? And is this your first?

I've owned a half dozen over the years. Currently I own the DT and a WR450 for my dirt adventures, both rank as my favorites thus far. I've had way more fun on the DT than I thought I'd have when I bought it. But I'm a looker and as such, I get tempted to add another to the stable...

What about you?

Current the DT 300i an a 1984 Honda V65 Magna. The V65 has been off the road 5 seasons now. It is just too much power in a naked bike. Guess I am just getting older.................

I used to worship the v65 when I was in high school.

I read something that most maxi scooter owners have owned other motorcycles before and are migrating to scooters for all the reasons we already know. Seems to be true. I've read a few accounts where they bought them for their wife, or daugher, and ended up confiscating it, or purchasing one for their own use. Short of a good crossover cycle, BMW F800, or the new Honda nc700x, I doubt I'll go back. The only reason I'm tempted by one of those is because I live in Utah, where we have lot's of lonely highways and lots of dirt roads that go all over the state.

I bought my Kawasaki ER6F first.. then soon figured out it was no good around town, and
bought a 50cc scoot first, then a 125cc scoot to replace the 50cc, and have 30.000km
combined on the two of them in just over 3 years.

I still have my Kawasaki (with 36kkm) and am selling it to get a maxi scoot..

I am not the original owner of the v65, bought it used and even then was looking at scvooters. I fell into the HP trap and purchased it at the time instead of a burgman. There is however nothing like riding a bike and only applyiny preasure on the twist grip with no actual movement. The power of the v65 is unreal and you don't need many revs to feel the torque.

On the reverse note the v65 is scary fast. If you actually twist the grip it takes off like a screaming banshe. By far these are no cafe racer or any thing like it. Extremely easy to get yourself into trouble much faster than you can realize either. I have been riding for many years and the bike still scares the you know what out of me.

This is reverse of the DT 300i. You have to work the throttle all the time. I am happy to do so for 70+ MPG. The v65 even mild on the throttle only returned 45 MPG. I can also do 3+ hours streight on the DT comfortably where after 1 hour on the v65 I feel like I played the first half of a football game and I'm loosing badly too.

The Downtown is my second bike and my first Kymco.  Started riding scooters this May at the age of 67.  I bought a 2003 Piaggio LT150 in May and while it was a great bike to learn on, I quickly realized it wasn't adequate for 65 MPH hwy riding let alone occasional interstate use.  I love the Downtown. and it is my only bike.

The DT300i is my only bike, now I got back on 2 wheels after 20+ yrs. I used to have some 50cc's (Mobilette, Puch and Honda MB50). And I consider myself a fresh starter again.

And the 300 has lived up to my expectations. I have been enjoying every trip. Did not have had an opportunity to go on a trip beyond 2 hrs. Will see what 2012 bring, but sure look forward to get on the bike as soon as possible, because it's just plain fun!

Even though I've done a 3-day trip on the DT, Without some improvements to the seat, 2 hours is about all I can take. I had to build a cruise control on the trip so I could take breaks stand and keep moving when the speed limit dropped to 30 or so through the small towns. Otherwise with all the breaks necessary it would have been a five day trip.

Been riding it until yesterday when it snowed.

To quote my post from 2011, I managed to pull it off, selling both my scoot and kawasaki and
buying a brand new DT300 ABS in 2012, riding it for a year, put about 20.000km on it and sold
it on to get another motorcycle again.

Sorry!
