Drive Belt

My bike just now has 7000 miles on it and I am thinking it is time to put a belt on it I may Have found a belt locally that may work but I need help making 1027x26.3x30 what does this number mean

Belt dimensions in mm.
Guys on X500 forum say that their belts last usually 20-25.000 kms, so you are now barely half way through.

Yes, changed mine at 25000km inspection (15600miles). At the 20000km inspection the belt was still in its specified tolerance.

Is there a specific reason or damage for changing your belt early?

Judging from Arkie's posts, it's because he rides fairly hard.  Will you do the work yourself, Arkie?  Do you have access to a service manual?  There are a couple of washers associated with the variator that you have to put back in exactly the way they come out. 

Does the new belt you're looking at have cogs on the outside as well as the inside?  If not, then you must not compare widths of the new against the old belt as measured.  The OEM belt with cogs on both surfaces must be measured according to a special method to determine if it is worn beyond it's service limit.  This is shown in the manual.  I can email the page to you if you need. 

Of course, you can always just install new belt and not worry about it.   ;)  My new Gates belt is 1039x30x28 which is supposed to be equivalant to OEM.  I found it on Gates' "belt finder".  I can't actually find Kymco's exact measurements for their OEM belt.

I think there is no significant correlation between driving style and CVT belt longevity.

I have had the variator tore down myself several times. My bike set for awhile before I got it another reason. Also I race my bike from time to time 100 plus mile per hour ( 161 KPH). So I push my bike pretty hard

I may have found a belt but not sure yet will do research if all goes well it will cost under 100 dollars (US)

I think the numbers 1027x26.3x30 means this but im not totally sure.

1027 mm around the outside of the belt.

26.3 mm wide at the widest part (the width will get smaller as the belt wears)

30 degrade angel on the side of the belt.

PL30071 gates is suppose to be a direct replacement for the stock belt and here in where I live is only 40 dollars american

Hoolander, I drove my Malossi belt for about 12.000 km now and the width is at 26.7 mm. Could you (or anyone) tell me if this is still within safety specifications?
The belt is installed with a Malossi Variator so there is a whole lot of extra friction than with the stock variator + belt  :o

Please let me know.

Xciting 500 service manual (chapter 10-19):
28.9mm new belt. Replace at 27.9mm

Belt looks like this on its outer/wider part:

Do not compare OEM belts with Malossi. Dimensions are different for the same scoot.

I put the Gates PL30071 belt on my bike a few weeks ago.  I noticed several differences between the Gates belt and the OEM belt.
1.  Gates belt is longer.
2.  The Gates belt is wider.
3.  The Gates belt does not have teeth on the outside.
4.  And my favorite difference...the Gates belt costs $25.

It works fine, I have no complaints.  The Gates belt is made in the USA and appears to be a very tough, heavy duty belt.  I don't expect any problems from it.  But even if it does not last as long as the OEM belt, it is still a good deal, as you can buy 6 of them for the price of one OEM belt, or 10 of them for the price of one Malossi belt.

I agree. My question remains if anyone can tell me if my belt needs to be changed. Anyone?
