Xciting 500 / Re: Cold Winter Mornings - Bike wont start
« on: September 08, 2015, 07:56:04 PM »
Difficult cold start is symptomatic of the exhaust valve gap closing up over time.
I think the valve gap is .004 inches for both intake and exhaust, it's in the manual, and is relatively easy to do, once you get all the plastic off. There's videos on you tube on how to do it, open up the variator cover, put a wrench on the nut and turn the engine to top dead center, check the valves with a feeler gauge, et voila.

My 500r starts pretty easy after I adjusted it, but my 500ri left me stranded a few times because I don't think it has a heated element for the fuel injection, so if yours is fuel injected, that may be the problem. I just ride the carb model now, and it's fine in the cold.

Check all your vacuum lines and fittings for wear and cracks. It sounds like you're leaking air somewhere. You have an electric fuel pump, so check the connections as well.

Sorry, don't know how to do pics, but it is brand new in the factory box, complete with header, bolts, and mount for the Exciting 250. You will need a new gasket for the header, but that is easy to get. I don't know if it fits the People, but if you think it does, let's get it on.

I've got one mounted on both my 250 and 500, and they're awesome and no longer available in the USA.

Best I can do is send it to you, if it fits, you mount it and pay for it. If it doesn't fit, you send it back. If you bust it up trying to see if it fits, you keep it and pay for it.

Very easy installation, all parts provided, the header and 4-Road muffler is all stainless steel, very nice and very Italian. Multi lingual instruction manual is also provided, but it is mostly in bizarre Euro pictographs and Engrish Pidgin. I'll look though it to see if it lists the People as fitting.

Pm your address and I'll ship it to you for examination, prolly cost $20, so $300 postpaid.

A deal between gentlemen precludes any nefarious intent, and as such should not involve any complaints. My word is my bond, and I expect yours is as well.

Cold start problems are usually attributed to improper valve clearance.

If you have more than 1000 miles on it, it may need a valve adjustment. Most often the exhaust valve closes over time as the engine settles in.

Check the clearance with a feeler gauge, should be .004" intake, and .006" exhaust, if it's close to that it's good to go. The exhaust valve has to handle the hot gas so it is usually the one to change.

Any service pro can check it for you if you're not sure, but it's a good skill to have if you're adroit with your scooter.

My Super 8 150 hits on the first crank every time, unless the battery is low, then I'll hook up the charger to get more amps, and bong, I'm gone.

And now, for something completely different...

« on: November 17, 2014, 10:13:24 PM »
I have the Leo and I went with the 125 main jet but it seemed too rich and still had mad pops, so I went down to the 120 and it's real smoove, except after shutdown about one second later it gives a single pop.

It's like Leo likes poppin, and even after you get the carb tuned, it's still gotta get some pop somehow, so I just let 'im have it.

With 28 gram rollers in the Malossi 2000 variator it's a lot more fun than the stock setup, but the RPMs are kinda high throughout. I haven't tried top end yet, and I lost the speedometer so we'll have to see if it runs right.

Since it pops on deceleration and at low RPMs, you might do better to replace the pilot jet to a 40 from the stock 38.

The slow speed jet is running the engine until about 1/4 throttle, and that's where it pops.

I have a Leo Vince exhaust with a 40 pilot, and it popped too much with the 125 main jet, so I have a 120 main jet now. It still pops, but not as bad, and usually only one big pop after shutoff.

You can also tune the idle mixture screw to refine the low end, turn it clockwise until it stops, then back it out 2 1/2 turns and see how it performs, then you can go in or out accordingly. Out is rich, in is lean.

General Discussion / Re: Why are we using Rotella again....?
« on: June 03, 2014, 08:33:09 PM »
The diesel oils contain high detergent content, which helps scooter engines stay clean since they don't have an oil filter. There's only one quart to lubricate the engine, so changing it every 1,000 miles is cheap and easy reassurance.

Rotella, it's not just for breakfast anymore.

I'll give you $30 for those sliders.

Super 8 150 / Re: Increasing speed on my kymco super 8 150
« on: August 21, 2013, 09:23:27 PM »
I took out the stock variator that weighed 330 grams without the ramp, and the stock 13 gram rollers. They were replaced with a Koso variator that weighed 240 grams, and 14 gram rollers. So 90 grams lighter on the vario, and 6 grams heavier on the rollero's.

This was after many trials of different rollers and sliders, and combinations to get the best balance overall.

That kept the RPMs lower at WOT, but still was pretty snappy off the start, and edged into 65 MPH, but like the dude said, it got kinda hairy on such a light machine, and it's much more comfortable a little slower.

Super 8 150 / Re: 2009 super8 150

You probably have a big main jet in the carb with that free flow air filter.

You can drain the fuel bowl, loosen the fore and aft clamps to the carb, work it loose and flip it over to get the fuel bowl off. The main jet should be a 108 and the pilot jet should be 36, you might have a 115 and a 40, and that's where all the fuel goes.

With the stock box, if it runs rich, the jets are too big.

It doesn't take a degree in biological engineering to pile up horsehit, which is what your diagnosis was. Perhaps it will serve you to figure out how to keep from being a dick.

Maybe it's because you're fat, and your experiments with auto erotic asphyxiation have proven unsatisfactory.

Meanwhile, the dude applied my observation to not mix sliders and rollers and effected a cure.

You're welcome.

The 7 gram rollers are leaving the 5gram sliders with nothing to do, giving erratic performance. Try all 6 gram rollers, the sliders are getting hung up.
