General Discussion / Re: Ironbutt's 9 and 10

Please keep us posted.  I did an Iron Butt a couple of years ago an a BMW, and it's a challenge.  Don't know if the Agility 125 is up to the task.

I can't see why the generic GY6 kits wouldn't be OK, but the usual warnings apply:  don't go crazy with power mods that tank the bottom end, modify the carb/exhaust to get the most from the bigger bore and plan to test and experiment with the right rollers and clutch setup.  Keep us posted on what you decide to do and how it all works out.

Looking good!  I envy the rest of the world having the City 125 with its bigger wheels.  I hope to get 100,000km out of our scoot...about 2/3 of the way there now.

Check the vacuum diaphragm for cracks or other leaks.  It's a quick thing to check and cheap to replace.

Exactly.  I plan to get the bad parts back and at least check resistance across the coil primary, but I am suspicious.  These are simple devices and should in theory last pretty much forever.

I think you're on the right track with a 150cc kit and bigger jet.  Plan on heavier rollers to take advantage of the increased torque, but 25cc can't make that much difference.  Keep us posted on your progress because there are a lot of those Agility-s on the road and we could all use an extra 5-10mph.

Agility 125 / Ignition failure: diagnosis
« on: August 13, 2017, 10:51:29 PM »
So my 2008 Agility died in traffic the other day...after "the big push" to the (former) dealership I get the word that the coil and CDI are bad.  So, parts are coming and I'll be back on the road in a couple of weeks.  With 67,000km on the bike I guess I can't complain.  But, what sounds like the most likely failure scenario here...the coil shorted and took the CDI with it, or the CDI failed and torched the coil?  Or, both?  Or, another cause entirely?  Or, the root cause is still in there, waiting to smoke the new parts?  Any ideas about some tests or measurements I can make to diagnose further?

A little late on this follow-up, but...

The replacement clutch I got (generic GY6) hasn't held up well at all...it's already jerking on engagement, less than 1000kms.  I found a good oem parts source at Capitol Yamaha (http://www.capitolyamaha.com/we-help-you-get-any--parts) but I don't know their shipping policy.

Any luck finding your part?  If not, try scrappydogscooter.com.  Their generic diaphragm fit my carb just fine, the price was low and they got the order to me fast.  They are in Las Vegas, so you may have better luck with a parts house closer to you.

I got a generic gy-6 clutch assembly from atvwholesaleoutlet.com but I don't think they ship parts.  It fits and works great.  I figure the same basic stuff from the usual suppliers will fit as well.  Out west, I'd try scrappydogscooters.com.  These no-name parts are probably not as good as oem Kymco.

Agility 125 / Re: A 125 tires.

I never had problems with the stock tires, and ran them until the tread was gone, but I do like the Michelin Boppers better...more stable at speed and better grip in corners.

Anything new to report?  We all want you back on the road with Kymco Power!

The new diaphragm did the trick!  I'm back up to 60mph with a rebuilt driveline and life is good.  Thanks for all the help, especially the tip about the carb from tortoise.

Well, maybe checking the mag. trigger is a little too much for now.  Check for good solid connections at the plug, coil and battery first.  Then check for continuity across the plug wire and coil with your meter.  Do you have the factory manual?  There are lots of resistance measurements in there that can narrow things down.

Maybe you can get some info on your new CDI from the seller and check resistance measurements with a multimeter.  Chances are your numbers will be off because a regular meter will load the semiconductors in a weird way, but anything reasonable tells you the CDI is ok.  Then, recheck the obvious stuff:  the plug wire, the coil, the plug itself, maybe the magnetic trigger.  Hope this helps.
