Super 8 150 / Re: Leg room super 8 125
« on: May 25, 2011, 04:49:10 AM »
Hi, Klav!  I'm 6'0", have 31" inseam and size 14 boots.  My feet sat at 45-degree angles to each other on the Super 8 150.  So, using a 3/8" thick piece of plywood, I cut out "sort of a butterfly / bat (animal) shape" to fit over the floorboard.  The plywood extends laterally about 1" beyond each side of the plastic (21-1/2").  The plywood front to back in the center is 6-1/2".  The length front to back near the flanks, both left and right are 16".  I primed the top side and edges with two coats of automotive primer.  Applied two coats of semi-gloss black (spray can).  When paint was cured (several days), I applied 3M self-adhesive stair tread 12" x 3" (Ace Hdwe).  I rounded the corners, with first using a mug as a tracing guide on the back side of the stair tread material.

Looking at the plastic floorboard, you'll find four plastic cups, under which are four machine bolts.  I removed the upper right and lower left.  At the hardware store I made sure I obtained the correct metric thread, with tapered head for use in wood......1-3/4" to 2" length (stainless) [either length will work ;)].

Now my big feet perch parallel to each other and I'm a happy camper. ::)

Super 8 150 / Re: Before purchase - tire availability?
« on: May 08, 2011, 02:25:35 AM »
My 2009 S8 came with Cheng Shin front and back, however, just opposite of what Dion reports.....120/70 on the front and 120/80 on the back.....front and back have two different tread patterns.

(Revision)  There is a label just down from the spedo that specifies the tire sizes, just like what came on our bikes. :o...........not at all close to what we all came to believe when we were sizing up the bikes for possible purchase.

The holes through the aluminum are clean with little burr.  So, drill away....I did.

Super 8 150 / Re: How steep and long can the hills be?

Thanks, Axy and KL, I think you've nailed it.

I live in a hilly city, very near the confluence of two major rivers, so "Zippy" should have no trouble.

Sounds, as if you have not yet discovered the answer.

How steep and long can the hills be before the S8 cannot make it?

Super 8 150 / Re: It's time I came out

Welcome John.
Don't overdo it. Valve adjustment, transmission oil change and carb cleaning @566 miles is already "overdoing it".
:)

It's been my understanding that a valve adjustment and oil change was due at 200 miles.  Former owner's brother and family was not sure if the 200 mile checkup was done.  Former owner had lost interest in the S8, when in 2009, he bought a motorcycle.  The S8 has been sitting for 1-1/2 years without being ridden.  The carb is exhibiting symptoms of varnish, old gas sitting in the carb and/or fuel jet partially clogged.  I thought it best to begin at square one, so that's the reason for over doing it.

Super 8 150 / It's time I came out
« on: April 07, 2011, 05:11:48 AM »
......to introduce myself.  My name is John.  I'm 69 years old and this is my first motorbike experience.  I have lots of experience with snowmobile and 4-wheeling.  I live on Minnesota's western prairie, not too many miles from South Dakota.  After spending several weeks deciding what scoot to get and reading as much as I could muster up about the Super 8 150, I bought a used one that I spotted on Craigslist.  So, last Thursday I drove 330 miles round trip to get it.  It's a 2009 red and black with 566 miles on the speedo.  I put the bike in the cycle shop to have our local expert go through it.....changing oil, clean carb, change tranny lube, adjust valves, tighten bolts, loctite bolt threads, so muffler cap has less chance of evaporating, etc.  I passed the written permit test at the courthouse this morning and have hopes of getting "Zippy" back from the "clinic" this coming Friday.

I contacted Klaviator via PM, who strongly suggested I order a magnetic drain plug kit.  Does anyone else suggest an Improvement I should do or add?  The local expert recommends I continue with the stock tires, while I'm learning to ride this summer......changing them to something better at a later date.

People 150 / People 150 vs. Super 8 150
« on: March 26, 2011, 06:05:09 AM »
Hello!
This is my first post.  I've been lurking and learning from you for this past week.  I have a chance to purchase two scooters in extra fine condition, a 2005 People 150 and a 2009 Super 8 150.  I know the People 150 has 152cc engine, while the S8 150 has 149.7cc engines.  Both are within the same weight range.  Which exhibits more torque out of the shoot?  Do they handle about the same?  Which is more zippy/torquey within the 30 to 40 mph range?  Which is your preferred ride?
