People GT 300i / 45k
« on: December 19, 2015, 02:08:18 AM »
Been away for a while as scoot went down in February and I didn't get her back on the road until October.(1999 Mazda Miata in the driveway may have influenced that ;)). Hit 45,000 miles yesterday. Just another typical day fighting for turf in a merge area and a Silverado changing lanes on top of me literally pushed to inside shoulder. Scoot is still very solid at this stage which is a testament to the build quality. My former BV250 was leaking in the forks and had a new head gasket by 32k due to exhaust stud failing among other ills. Hoping to hit 50 by June next year. Merry Christmas everyone!

People GT 300i / Down and Out
« on: March 03, 2015, 12:22:52 AM »
Couple weeks back scoot died in a heart beat while running at 60mph. I haven't been motivated to open her up with the fine weather of late. The nearly mile push took a few days to recover from alone ;). I looked up underneath her briefly today hoping to see the plug boot off or broken but not my luck. Nothing is leaking and fluid levels are ok. Starter cranks but no fire. Hoping for some thoughts from Zombie. Going to check for spark and fuel first. Stator? Broken timing chain. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Odo is between 44-45k.

Haven't ridden for several weeks but took the scoot out yesterday to run an appointment. Stopped at the station in town which still has "free air"(Breathe deep the gathering gloom). Pressures were down at 10&11psi.About like the footballs! Point is check um when you start pulling them out. Amazing how quick the scoot feels when you haven't ridden for a while.

People GT 300i / 40 the new 30?
« on: August 05, 2014, 11:28:28 AM »
Crossed over 40k yesterday. Scoot to this point has been great. Newest minor detail is the locked cubby which hasn't been used for a long time the other day I went to unlock it and locking barrel fell through door with the slightest touch of the key. Now held shut with duct tape. Gold Member needs a new belt, new rear rotor and the finned portion of the variator pulley all on order. Slight oil leak at top end and something going on in gears but confident it will get to 50. Still a joy to ride everyday. Stay safe out there 8)

People GT 300i / Head Lamp Replacement
« on: May 25, 2014, 11:34:44 PM »
Low beam burned out the other day. Just over 2 years and 35 plus K miles. Manual makes no mention of removing mirrors or prying the _hit out of the handle bar plastic!. Removed wind screen so the standard turn indicators would also need removing. Prying along top where front plastic extends beyond rear plastic to get it started worked well. Replaced with the best Sylvania bulb which cost $25.00 at Walmart. Reading the fine print their brighter bulbs wear out faster than their lower end bulbs. I will report back if bulb improves vision or not. Having now taken the plastic apart and not busting it up  gives me confidence in pulling lower plastic when the time comes.

People GT 300i / Are You Dragging?
« on: April 28, 2014, 11:10:38 PM »
Just changed out brake pads and was surprised rear pads were razor thin. When you push your scoot around how much drag do you hear on rear brake? I lubed slides and pad tips but not sure there isn't an issue. That said she does have close to 34k. Front pads just passed inspection but I changed them out as well. Don't bother with after market pads as the set I ordered online and the set the dealer ordered didn't fit. Ended up waiting 1 1/2 weeks for Oem pads

People GT 300i / 30K Today
« on: February 08, 2014, 12:42:13 AM »
Crossed the 30,000 mile mark today 10 days short of 22 months. Scoot to this point has been pretty bulletproof. Only an issue with the fill bolt on the transmission and a busted exhaust shield bolt. Current City Grips are about done but have gone almost 16K. My old BV 250 by 32k had several large problems and wasn't safe to ride. This scoot is pretty awesome! Now if the weather would just get back to normal all would be good 8)

People GT 300i / 14G. Sliders?
« on: October 01, 2013, 12:21:16 AM »
Getting close to doing my second belt change and considering going down to 14g sliders. Currently I am running 15g. Mr.Mike I think is running them. If anyone else is would you please give your thoughts. I am not unhappy with the 15's but wondering if the slight hesitation at 40mph might be helped out with the 14's

People GT 300i / Federal Offense on my GTi?
« on: September 23, 2013, 01:05:26 AM »
This past week's exciting scooter moment happened as I was leaving town the other day and near no body of water. A large bird heading in my direction swooped down maybe 20 feet in front of me to grab a dead bunny off the road and realized a scooter was about to run into it. It dropped the bunny fortunately not in my path rose hard and banked left. At first I thought just another vulture which wouldn't be the first near miss but the tail was white and I turned to look back and the head was white too! I suspect hitting a Bald Eagle wouldn't have been good for either of us!

People GT 300i / 25K today or Midlife Crisis?
« on: September 12, 2013, 02:33:56 AM »
Crossed the Quarter Century mark today! Pioneer? Still very happy with scoot but last transaxle lube change didn't look quite right and threads on fill bolt contained aluminum case with them. Thinking it stripped on prior change and did some mingling with parts inside. Going to change lube early and hope for best. Haven't had any discernible changes in action. To this point the only things to act up are exhaust shield bolts loosening. That's it! My BV 250 at this stage had a broken exhaust stud, water pump, cooling issues and oil sump damage from the belt. Another belt and tires will be needed in about 3K. Running 15g sliders and may try 14g's next time. Hoping for another carefree 25K :)

People GT 300i / 20K today
« on: June 04, 2013, 11:21:03 AM »
Crossed over 20K miles today without much fanfare as I was riding in a downpour at the time. 382 days averaging 52 miles per day. Still like the ride :)

People GT 300i / 1 Year of Good Clean Fun
« on: April 14, 2013, 02:25:47 AM »
This week will mark 1 year of riding my GTi. The next trip will put me over 17K miles. Currently I am running 15g sliders and City Grip tires. The sliders are working ok. I may try 14 g on the next belt change and am happy with the tires. I paid the dealer to convert the blinkers to inside the body and added an ER Max windscreen. I like the look and think Oldscoot was the pioneer on this. Recently there has been a stumble at about 40mph but when I changed the belt the air filter was pretty bad and I will change it out soon. It is a great scoot to ride :) and has been less problematic than my old BV250. At some point I will probably change out the topcase as the factory case is not the best. It would be nice to have a tach, a bit more storage and a softer seat but in general it is a beast! The windscreen has made riding a lot more comfortable. All in all I am very happy with "Goldmember" and am not missing the Italian scoot at all. I am still getting lots of ;) positive comments from strangers . The one big issue which I have yet to resolve is the belt slipping in heavy rain. If anyone else should have this problem please post it :(

People GT 300i / 2012 in the Mirrors
« on: January 03, 2013, 11:55:03 PM »
Ended the year with 12,800 miles on the GTi puchased in mid April. Purchased new City Grips on sale at Motorcycle Superstore and will get them mounted before spring. About to change belt and put in sliders. Guessing 14g as the Downtown guys seem to feel that is a good choice. Put almost 4k on the old BV250 as well so my two wheel and four wheel travel for the year were close to equal. To this point little fanfare with the scoot. Still think in the long run she will be a better buy than the BV350. Stay safe my friends 8)

People GT 300i / Slippery when Wet?
« on: October 02, 2012, 01:42:42 AM »
Crossed over 10k on friday. put on 174 miles with about 90 of them in the wet. I was in hard rain which was much fun :'( sarcasm insert here. The disconcerting part was it felt as though the belt was slipping. The backend never walked out  so I am pretty certain she wasn't hydroplaning. Is it possible to get water into the belt area? I wouldn't think so. I realize that she is getting close to needing a new belt but this is still a little early. Thanks for any insights :)

People GT 300i / PR Day
« on: September 02, 2012, 10:06:30 PM »
Set a new Personal Record yesterday on scoot. 350 miles on the day. Highway running isn't all that and a bag of chips but to run from Culpeper VA up to Harrisburg PA and back on less than 5 gallons is very cool :). Caught the usual guff upon arrival. Best comment was, "So did you leave on Tuesday?" People are determined to not let a moped pass them which helps pass time mentally playing with them. I also crossed over 9K miles yesterday in 4 1/2 months. I really need to get the windscreen on asap. My dealer won't move blinkers as per Kymco word but has offered to give me pictures to tupperware removal. I have no desire to ride cross country but if I did the 300 GTi could handle it. Stay thirsty my friends ;)
