That's both good and bad... the good part, you know what needs to be done to fix it... the bad, fixing it.  Might need to have new rings and redo the gaskets... worst case is boring the cylinder walls and getting a new piston.  However, would make it a nice 70cc with the right equip.

i just bought the malossi kit...... we shall see if i can get her on!!

I totally agree with your comments Glopezz.

I have always preferred the " bad ass, tricked out little scooter" way of thinking over the standard logical choice.

I am going to take your advice take it step by step... I have always enjoyed tinkering. This is going to be fun!

just please dont spend 1000 on a 80cc kit.... look around...

If you are in the US, swing by a Western Autoâ„¢, Autozoneâ„¢ or the like - They actually lend those out for free!

You haven't ridden it yet? Trade it in for the 2 stroke model. It will cost you but it will be less than the thousand dollars your dealer wants to charge. Besides, 2 stroke is more fun.

two strokes do have more power!!

Hey Dre-
I saw you posting over at SI also.  Did you get it started yet?  Have you tried starting fluid or carb cleaner down the intake?  It it has spark and compression it will always at least fire a couple turns.  Otherwise, you need to get a compression tester.  Anything less than about 90 psi and it won't run.  You can pick up a cheap compression gauge at Harbor Freight for less than $25.  If you aren't getting anything at all out of it and you have good spark, you don't have compression.  Good luck!

what kind of compression gauge do i need? one for a car will work?

Sell the 4t and get a tandem bicycle (if you want to be environmentally responsible) or man up, get your motorcycle license and get a bigger scooter.
Personally I don't like to ride two up on a scooter or a motorcycle.
Oh, sure it is cute and all, but wonky.
I may change my mind if I get to ride a Goldwing.

i like my lil scooter!!!

I know you don't want to hear this but you are about to ruin your scooter and waste a lot of money . Just my opinion . Good luck .

he has a point here!!

I haven't found a Malossi 80cc kit yet. However I have found a Polini 80cc kit that is supposed to fit the People s50 4t.
Here's the link: http://www.sip-scootershop.com/EN/Products/P1250007/Racing+cylinder+POLINI+80cc+4T.aspx

It sells for roughly $250-270 usd. Anybody know anything about the Polini Kit?

Its more than double the price of  the chinese ones on ebay. Are the ones that sell for 70-100 dollars any good?

i saw these on ebay a while back and was wondering the same thing.

Dreflu,

Thanks for the clarification. Can you describe your experience with riding 2-up on the 4 stroke?

the best thing i can tell you  is to ride it and try!! 6 gram rollers would make you pull better tho..

Dreflu,

How did your experience go with an 80cc kit on a 50cc 4t? Was there a major performance increase? Did you have reliability  issues afterwards?

I have to admit that I dont know anything about engines at this point. I am starting to understand a little more now that I've been surfing the net and the forums. The reality is that I have no experience myself, so I find it difficult for me make decisions.

I don't have any details on what parts and work will actually be done for a 1000.00 cdn dollars. I have just been told that it is a 80cc upgrade that would be fully installed  by a dealer. I will enquire.

I don't know if it is a GY6 engine. All I can tell you is that it is a People s50 4t, 2009 in Canada. Can anyone confirm or deny that this scooter has a GY6 engine in it?

ive done it meaning rode with someone on the back... not kitted a gy6.. sorry about the mix up

YOU'RE ALIVE!!!!! yes ive tried starting fluid right in the intake. it will just backfire a few times. i guess im gonna have to get a compression tester. im gonna pull the intake first to check the reeds as soon as this rain stops
