I've always found that a red stripe down the sides tends to make the bike go faster. :)

Most likely... hm... I can`t find the right word in English.
Maybe something like "cold weld"?

"Dry joint"

I have to confess to not going all out on protection.
I would dearly love to be able to afford really expensive armour and the like, but there's a limit to my finances.
Obviously I wear a dome, and leather gloves, albeit fairly cheap ones, but enough to protect my hands should I have an off.
I do have some paddock boots which I wear more for the road grip than anything else, and then usually only when I'm expecting dodgey weather and travelling more than just around town.
A good stout waterproof quilted jacket to keep me warm, and a pair of lightweight waterproof leggings under the seat, just in case.

I figure, I fell off loads of times when I was young, and generally rolled - anything else and no amount of protection going to do much.
I lost the skin off my knees and elbows on more than one occasion, but kept riding anyway. Now I'm middle aged, and a bit portly, (well, more than a bit, if the truth be known), I'll probably roll even better and bounce a bit, but as I haven't fallen off in about thirty years, (famous last words), my riding skills are obviously more defensive, and I only have to worry about other drivers.

And frankly, there's not a lot you can do about that in a crisis!!! Other than pray!

I always use the steering lock, but, frankly they're rubbish.
Then I add either a disk lock, although I'm told these are easy to get off, or an Oxford chain, which has the advantage of being able to link through lamp posts and the like, depending on which I have in the boot at the time.
The Downtown is a little large for a 14 year old to drive away easily without falling off, and it's also a little heavy to pick up with less than 3 blokes, so I'm fairly certain that if it was pinched, it would be a serious theft, and to be honest, there's no accounting for that so I've gone about as far as I can.

Alarms are useless, they don't scare anyone, and an immobilizer is easy to get round if you know what you're doing.
However, with only 28 in the whole country, it shouldn't be too difficult for plod to find it, if they go to the trouble to look out for it in the first place. What state it would come back in, of course, is questionable.

That's brilliant. Thanks Rob.
I never thought of contacting them direct. I looked on their website myself and couldn't find  one, so I just assumed that it wasn't available.
How did you work out the wiring? Do they supply simple enough instructions to do it yourself?
How does the calibration work? Is it a case of running the bike with a satnav and adjusting it a bit at a time until it's right?

Speedohealer is not available in the Uk for Kymcos.
Shame that, that would have been cheaper...

The speedo on the Downtown is electronically fed from a sensor on the front wheel and not driven by a cable I think...but interesting nevertheless.

Does anyone know how the speedo reads the sensor ring on the front wheel on a modern scooter.
My experience is about a thousand years old when all we had was a cable driven by a small sprocket on the front wheel that span inside the speedo itself.
As I see it, the serrated ring spinning on the front wheels of modern scooters act through the sensor in a similar manner.
But are the actual pitch of the slots and the gaps in between significant. Does the computer in the bike "count" the slots and determine the road speed from that, or are the slots just to make it easier for the sensor the "see" the movement?
The reason why I ask is that the Downtown has an unreadable MPH scale and I was thinking of making a new ring with different spacings and slots to kid the speedo into reading in MPH instead, (assuming that this will even work!).
Anyone ever tried something like this?

There are only 28 of us in the UK, and half of those are 2011 registrations, so I don't expect to come across any for a while...

Compared with 784 for the XEVO 400ie taxed in the last year...

NO, it's defintely the workshop manual that I have at home.
I've just read the onlive file that I quote yesterday and that's the crappy little book that came with the machine.
I'll get back to you...

(ED: The online version that TANWare quotes, is the right one, but non printable and non downloadable.)

You've got me wondering whether I have the one that you are both after now.
Unfortunately my laptop was playing silly buggers last night when I went home and I couldn't get the neccesary files open.
I'll try again tonight.
