Title: RIP Dan Gurney
Post by: big blue on January 15, 2018, 07:14:29 PM
So sad to hear of the passing of Dan Gurney one of the greatest racing drivers and builders the USA has produced. His success in many forms of motorsport made him a legend on both sides of the Atlantic. He was the driver who first peaked my interest in Formula 1 and sports car racing in Southern California in the 60s. Fair winds Dan!

Gosh, I hadn't heard about that. He is on of the legends of auto racing. He did die of natural causes didn't he. Not much racing going on right now.

F1 and Le Mans racing was my passion when i was a kid.
Our soccer coach, at Paris American High School, had a relative on the Ford Le Mans crew. 4 of us got to see, close up, Ford win in 1966. A month before the race we drove over the public roads of the track, and the day before the race we were able to walk all over the pit area.
We slept rough on the grounds, beating the massive traffic jams.
Of course, being a stupid kid...I never carried a camera for that event. ..and have only 2 pictures of my 4 yrs in Paris!(1 soccer team picture, and one pic of my date and I for our prom on the Eiffel Tower, in the Jules Verne restaurant.) My stupidity, still amazes me....no camera! Ever! Like I  was ever going to see this stuff again!
Jimmy Clark, was my guy.
