Deal's Gap and the Skyway on my Super 8
« on: September 19, 2016, 09:51:41 AM »
I've mostly been using my Super 8 for commuting around town but it is a really fun to ride scooter.  I decided to take it to the mountains of Eastern Tn and Western NC for the weekend.

With thunderstorms moving in I kept the Sunday ride short doing an 80 mile loop.  It was harder to get good pics on this overcast day.

Great shots, and what a scenic ride - I'm very jealous! Love the shot of the old gas station. Thanks so much for sharing your ride with us.

That old gas station was really cool.  Does anyone remember when gas was that cheap?  It was before my time.  I took a pic at the same spot earlier in the week with different lighting.  I was riding my Versys at that time.

Great photos of some beautiful country. How does your scooter handle the gravel roads? My Like with 12in tires is a little squirrely on loose surfaces.

As long as the road is reasonably smooth I have no problems on gravel or dirt roads.  If the road gets rough I slow down.  It's mostly an issue of suspension, or lack therof.  I'm used to riding on gravel so having a little less traction isn't an issue for me.  I got up to around 35 or 40 on a smooth gravel road on this ride.  Going uphill on some rough washboard I slowed down to about 10 to not beat up the scooter too much.

That is some beautiful scenery there, amazing.   Were you the only scooter there?

Glad to see another Kymco on The Tail I was beginning to think I was the only one. Did you do Cades Cove while out there?

I saw a couple of maxi scooters at Deal's Gap but didn't see any small scooters all weekend.  Earlier in the week I came across 3 50cc scooters on the Blue Ridge Parkway.  They said they tried to break the speed limit but couldn't do it.

That Kawasaki looks good too.  ;) We can get them in Australia so I will need to get to a bike shop for a good look at one.

I really enjoyed your photos, thanks, I love the mountains but so far I've only seen them in passing on the way to the Panhandle or North Carolina etc. by car. It would be an expedition for me from Ontario but one day I'll ride my Kymco Like down. How did the Super 8 do on the steeper hills?

For the most part the Super 8 did just fine in the mountains.  I was getting stuck behind slow moving cruisers even going uphill.  On the steepest ark of the Cherohala Skyway I did briefly bog down to about 35 MPH.  For the most part I was able to ride around 45 or better.
