How many kms/miles on the scoot? since rebuild?
To make sure it does indeed "start right up", start it from cold (tell the seller you want to make sure it's a cold engine - pipe should not be hot)

What shape is it? any damage to plastics that might show previous accidents/lay downs...

What year is it? 24 years? Did you mean 2-4 years?

Price might be a bit steep (it's really relative to where you live) but the questions above need to be considered ...

Cargo and windshield are not rare and rather inexpensive to begin with ... in other words, these two "features" really add little extra value.

as to the upgrade kit.. take it for a decent test drive and make sure it rides correctly at different speeds, ideally take along a scoot mechanic or call a local one to check it out for you... even if you pay a lil, a professional thumbs up will be more than worth it just in case the scoot has issues...

GL! lot's of knowledgeable ZX mechanics here!

zx50 / Older ZX with fading, where is the color code?
« on: April 11, 2013, 09:46:51 PM »
Hi -
Older ZX 50  is quite faded and while I think it orange, local dealer believes it red.
One piece has a dumb word faded into it from a sticker...which I want to paint.
Is there a sticker on the scoot with the official, original color?
Thanks in advance

Is this still the varistor/ pipe combo to look for?

Did you buy the variator yet?
I live near Colorado Powersports and may buy one for myself.
They sell (sold) the jasil variator on Ebay for $80 shipped, so I might be able to negotiate a lil better to offset the shipping to the UK
pm me if interested.

General Discussion / Re: Chase your Dream: The Naperville Scooter Store

Hard to think of anything more worthless than a motor scooter shop proprietor that lacks preventative maintenance and troubleshooting abilities . . such as knowing the difference between ac-cdi and dc-cdi ignition systems.  The high school and college crowd may be a "slippery slope" . . typical "laws don't apply to me" mentality trying to make their 50cc 4-stroke "30 mph moped" go 50 mph.

I tend to agree with this member...
You really need to set yourself up for success not for ....
I grew up in retail (albeit perishable but that has an additional set of challenges), 150k pop (even with the college is lean), mean income is good, but in a SEASONAL part of the country...

I have gotten to know a scooter shop owner in my nearby college town, just over 150k with a higher mean income than yours... he can take a scooter apart and of course put it back together... shop is relatively small in a "b" location (near downtown/mall/campus) They sell Kymco, Genuine, Aprilia and a few others (new/used) ... it's a tough business and the $ are in repair ... also in a seasonal part of the US ... winter's are tough ...
If you are in a seasonal area of the country... scoots are not on the holiday gift list.... he just buckles down, keeps a skeleton staff (most motorcycle shops here fire and then rehire in the spring most of their staff... yes MOST)...

Lots to think about and plan... start building a simple excel spreadsheet budget... start listing every single expense you can think of ...

if you need some help, pm me...

Not trying to kill the dream but being prepared will help the dream some true...

Good luck.

Just some things to consider.
Naperville, Il?
Realistically how many months will you have true sales?
(overbudget for lean times)

The building looks great, but why not find a smaller rental site to keep your overhead low for the first few years?

Hire great mechanics!

Go get em!

lol sorry, I was the turn around, due diligence (acquisition) person for a large retailer ...

low overhead = much better chance of success!

Looking to get the trim restorer to restore faded plastics on a couple scoots bought used/faded
Mothers Back to Black doesn't really change the faded black of the Kymco

People 50 / Re: $75 scoot needs tires, opinions please.
« on: September 27, 2012, 08:30:14 PM »
wow! sorry, thanks for all the time and effort...

when I ride more on these Heidenaus, I will attempt to do a thorough write up...

Yesterday a scoot mechanic took it for a spin on a rainy road (he was checking the speedo) and while he didn't ride very far, he did comment on how the tread just seems to "stick"....

Technical | How To / Re: How do you test a speedo on a People 50?
« on: September 27, 2012, 08:26:38 PM »
Yeah from what I have tried to glean in all the info here, stock belts seem just fine

but this would be my first variator swap and I was hoping for a somewhat proven suggestion on whish one(s) would be best ...

You should've just bought a cheap GPS.  Megellan's have a feature that lists
a screen with a 1 1/2" dia. digital speedometer,  time moving, time stopped,
miles traveled, etc.

fair enough, but was not sure I was keeping this one (thought the speedo an important selling feature) ... but damn with all the new parts... and I really dig the Heidenau tires!

all told, spent about $60 to fix the speedo (used lens, used cable, new assembly)

on the variator, when perusing EBay, the "race" are not much more than stock, so any specific recommendations to buy and both improve speed while getting ready for an eventual upgrade kit?
and any specific belt that would be considered better than stock?
