General Discussion / Kymco People 150 vs SYM HD 200 EVO
« on: May 08, 2015, 12:14:17 AM »
Saw a local ad for a 2009 SYM HD 200 EVO with 5300 miles on it for $1900.  From the photos, it appears to be in great shape and I hope to check it out tomorrow.  I currently own a 2005 People 150 and have been very happy with the scoot.  I am looking for a little more top end speed and was considering the People 300 GTi, but at the same time I would like to keep the weight down, so I'm thinking the SYM might just be the ticket.  From reviews I have read the SYM is an excellent scooter.  My 150 tops out at between 55 and 60 mph but from what I read, the SYM is capable of 70+!  If I remember correctly, someone on this forum own's/owned both.  Could you please respond with your thoughts on the two scooters comparing, low end acceleration, top speed, mpg's, handling, reliability, headlight visibility, availability of parts, etc.  Also, I would appreciate hearing from anyone else with SYM HD 200 EVO experience.  Thanks and what the heck happened to the Z-man?.....must be working on his hydrofoil venture!

General Discussion / 2005 People 150 No Spark - Help!
« on: May 04, 2014, 10:51:30 PM »
I've had too many trouble free years with the ol' 150, so I figured it was just a matter of time before the scoot would leave me stranded, and that time has finally come!  Was riding to work a few days ago and the engine started cutting out, off and on.  Made it to work but when I went to leave it would not start and drained the battery trying.  Left it there a few days and charged up the battery before I could check things out.  Pulled the spark plug boot and sprayed some stuff for electrical connections in it (not sure of the name) that a coworker gave me, put the boot back on and it started right up and ran fine in the parking lot.  Came back in a few more days to pick it up and it wouldn't start again.  After charging the battery again I was able to get it started but on the ride home is started cutting out again and finally died about a mile from home.  I had bought a new battery over the winter but had not installed it yet, so I charged the new battery and installed it but the scoot still will not start.  Looked online and am trying to troubleshoot it.  Here's what I know so far: the spark plug does not spark...and also I did not get an arc when I put a small screwdriver in the spark plug boot, placed it near the engine and hit the start button.  I'm certainly no "motorhead" but that tells me I'm not getting any juice to the spark plug.  I have a harbor freight freebie multimeter but I'm not sure if it is working (plus i'm no expert with these things).  When I set it to read resistance and touch the two leads it reads 0.5 instead 0.0.  I used the multimeter to check the ignition coil and it seemed to give me readings that were within the ballpark...but not sure.  I think my starter relay is OK because it clicks when I hit the start button.  So, I guess that leaves the CDI, kill switch, grounding issues, etc. as potential problems.  I'm thinking about just starting to replace parts to find the problem....any educated guesses on the part that has likely failed?  I might just call the local dealer and see what they would charge to bench test the ignition coil and cdi.  Thanks for any help!

General Discussion / Original Kymco Parts
« on: April 24, 2013, 03:09:27 AM »
Needed to replace the speedometer cable and air filter on my P150, so I searched online and came across 2wheelpros.com out of Chatsworth, CA.  Their prices were good and I received the items in less than two weeks.  You might consider them for your next original Kymco parts purchase.

Technical | How To / Speedometer Cable
« on: July 20, 2012, 02:01:04 AM »
Took off after work today and noticed the speedometer didn't budge and the odometer didn't turn on my People 150.  I'm guessing this is a broken speedometer cable but I have no experience with this.  Is there an easy was to verify that this is the problem?  Thanks!

Technical | How To / Need Help Diagnosing People 150 Lighting Problem
« on: June 02, 2011, 11:49:57 PM »
Was riding to work this morning and a guy pulled up next to me and said my brake lights were on all the time.  So tonight when I got home this is what I found:

With the scooter running, the brake light is on until I pull on the right brake handle and it then goes off, but the running light stays on.  The left brake handle has no effect on the brake light when I squeeze it.

With the ignition key in the "on" position and the scooter NOT running, the brake light is on until I pull on the right brake handle and it then goes off, but the running light also goes off.  Again, the left brake handle has no effect on the brake light when I squeeze it.

Also, if I remember right, the scooter should not start unless the left brake lever is squeezed; however, I can now start it without squeezing either brake lever.

So, those are the facts.  I'm guessing it is probably a bad switch somewhere but I'm hoping someone can diagnose this and narrow it down for me.  Thanks for any help and happy scooting!

General Discussion / P150 goes down......Part II
« on: September 22, 2010, 03:19:49 AM »
In my original post I forgot to mention what happened after I went down.  After getting up and realizing there were no broken bones or anything, I quickly went back to the scoot to pick it up.....in my rush, I didn't realize it was still running and when I grabbed the throttle the thing took off over the sidewalk with me hanging on for dear life!  I managed to get it under control before I ran into some bushes.  Talk about adding insult to injury!  Trust me, I wasn't lmao.....but I'm sure someone was!

General Discussion / P150 Goes Down!
« on: September 21, 2010, 02:14:11 AM »
We'll, I'm embarassed to admit it but the old girl (and me) hit the pavement for the first time today!  Was coming home from work and I took a right onto a one-way.  I saw that the next stop light was green, and then I must have momentarily looked away, and when I looked ahead again I was about ready to kiss the car's trunk in front of me.  Apparently traffic was backed up and even though the light was green, the car was barely moving.  So, I hit the brakes hard and thought that I was going to be OK....... until I hit the paint in the crosswalk!  The front wheel was turned just a little bit and it went right out from under me when it hit the paint.  Fortunately, just got a little road rash and some scratches on the scoot.  Worst thing was probably a bruised ego!  Surprisingly, didn't have a scratch on my helmet.  I'm guessing I had slowed sufficiently before I went down.  It only takes a split second.......so be careful out there!

General Discussion / Test Ride - 150 vs 250
« on: July 31, 2010, 04:14:28 PM »
Was driving past my local Kymco dealer yesterday and thought I would stop in to see if they had a Yager 200 in stock.  I just wanted to see how the Yager would compare in power, size, handling, etc. to my People 150.  They did not have any Yagers, but they did have some Xciting 250's on hand and the salesman was working me.  I told him I wasn't interested in the larger scoots but he kept saying how much the 250 would blow the socks off of the P150.  He had a used Xciting 250 on hand so I decided what the heck, I'll take it for a test ride.  Of course the top end was a good 15 mph (indicated) faster than my P150, but I was surprised from 0 to 35 mph, I did not think there was a heck of a lot of difference!

General Discussion / Buying Sliders?
« on: May 06, 2010, 03:54:02 AM »
If you are looking to get some Dr. Pulley sliders (or other scooter stuff for that matter), you might want to check out this seller on Ebay: autotech355
This dude (his name is Carlos, believe it or not!) is out of Taiwan.  I purchased my sliders recently from him for $25.00 (free shipping!) and they arrived in only 8 days.  He has a good selection of sizes and weights and many of the smaller ones are also only $25.00 with free shipping.  He also has an assortment of other scooter stuff: however, I have no idea if it is quality stuff or if the prices are reasonable.  Might be worth checking out though.  Happy shopping!

People 150 / Dr. Pulley Sliders
« on: April 07, 2010, 02:03:42 AM »
Has anyone installed Dr. Pulley sliding roller weights on their People 150?  If so, what size did you use and what effect did they have?  Thanks!
