General Discussion / Re: Do you wear earplugs?
« on: August 13, 2018, 03:19:39 PM »
For me it's hearing aids out, foam ear plugs in (for the wind noise - even with modular helmet all closed up).  I've found I actually hear my communication system (telephone and intercom) through my helmet speakers better when I wear the ear plugs.

I'd bet he's referring to the parking brake on his 500.  It is cable operated.

Hope you can get something decent for your 300- the 500 is still available and I bet we can work something out.

Technical | How To / Re: How to handle the Kymco 500 scooter?
« on: April 14, 2018, 09:29:36 PM »
I've had a 2013 500x since April of 2014 and have never had starting problems in the winter BUT I'm in the Fort Worth area of Texas.  It is kept in the garage, but I have done several lengthy cold weather rides (in the upper 30's-40's) with extended stopping (engine all the way to cold).

Perhaps it's just the location that I'm fortunate to be in that allows it to start when cold.

Technical | How To / Re: Help with mirrors
« on: March 01, 2018, 03:21:16 PM »
Had a friend mount mirrors on the ends of the handlebars (onto the bar end weights).  How does/did the low mirror (fairing mounted) set up work on your Burgman or did your Burg have high mounted mirrors?  For me keeping the mirrors low avoids the shoulder width problem.  My Yager 200 had high brake reservoir mounted mirrors and they barely went past my "shoulders".  My Grand Vista 250 had the low mirrors and they worked great.  My Xciting 500 had the mirrors (with turn signals in the mirror) on the brake reservoir mounts and they were OK but barely past my "shoulders" and would occasionally move.  My Burgman has the low mounted mirrors on the fairing and they are super.

But I do keep seeing both top mounted mirrors (on the brake/clutch reservoir mounting bolts) on motorcycles and have the low fixed mirrors on the fairings too.

Try and get a look at the mirrors for a European Xcting 500 (European version doesn't have the signals in the mirror)- they mount up high on the fairing but are really long arms that might could be used in your configuration without the extenders.

Stig - have you looked at these from Amazon for Honda/Suzuki, etc? - but they do use a 10mm thread.

For Sale / Re: 2013 Xciting 500Ri ABS for Sale

Karl-

Sorry about the delayed response - came down with flu and haven't felt like sitting up long enough to look at forums, etc.

Moparkid (Russell) sent me a message that he had been run off the road and spent a few days in hospital.  He didn't disclose the extent of injuries but indicated it had him re-thinking riding at this point.  The pictures of his Downtown 300 looked like it would need lots of new left side Tupperware, mirror, etc.

For Sale / 2013 Xciting 500Ri ABS for Sale
« on: February 04, 2018, 11:19:00 PM »
Selling my gold colored 2013 Kymco Xciting 500Ri ABS scooter-  (Wife wanted something a little "bigger" so we got a Burgman 650 for now).  NADA lists this Kymco Xciting 500 at 2240 low retail and 2950 average retail. KBB has trade in at 2590 and dealer retail at 3790.

I've added a tall Givi windshield, 40 liter Shad case, 12V dash receptacle, 12v plug for heated clothing or battery charging. It has just under 17,250 miles. It has about 5,700 miles on current set of tires (Michelin City-Grips).

It weighs about 470 pounds (It's not a moped or toy- for those that aren't familiar with the Xciting 500). Shoot me an offer if you're interested or pass on the info if you know someone that may be. I know I'm not gonna get 3K, so don't fret to make an offer.

I've had it posted on Craigslist for $2800 - I'm located just on the north side of Fort Worth but No Paypal, No Google Voice verification stuff, No shipping anywhere no trades, and I don't need help selling it.  A friend on this forum (Moparkid) has ridden it and may chime in on his thoughts on it.  A recent mishap with his Downtown 300 probably is keeping him from getting my 500.

I can email pictures of it but can't figure out how to post them here on the forum (files are too large- Stig makes it look so easy!)

Thanks, Charlie -

Russell:

I just checked my Xciting 500 and it's an 8mm on it.  Don't know if it's the same on the Downtown but I'd bet it is.

Technical | How To / Re: Should I buy a motorcycle lift?
« on: October 31, 2017, 10:11:45 PM »
I bought one of those to work on my scooters (Yager 200, Grand Vista, and Xciting 500) - I've never had the guts to slide that thing under any of the scooters and use it- It just doesn't appear safe (scooter tipping side to side  :-X during the raising process or tipping back if not positioned properly :-\) and the lift pads are in the way too.  My 500 at 467 pounds is just too heavy to trust raising it 17" high and hoping nothing bumps it on the side  :'(

I now just use the lift to raise the front of my tractor mower to service it.

LIKE 200i / Re: rear shock adjustment
« on: September 25, 2017, 07:13:46 PM »
Not sure if the Like has  has a both side and a center stand -but  be sure it's on the center stand when adjusting the shocks.  I tried adjusting my Xciting 500 one time while on its side stand and just couldn't figure out why it was so hard to turn - duh :-[- putting it on the center stand lets the wheel assembly hang down and takes weight off the springs.

Xciting 500 / Re: Need help to know what to buy.
« on: August 04, 2017, 10:17:04 PM »
I've had a 2013 xciting RI since March 2014 (bought it used with less than 200 miles).  I live in the Fort Worth, TX area (generally mild temps year round- but scooter has sat in below and near freezing weather for a few hours while out riding) and have never had the hard starting problems except when battery gave out in August 2015 (heat kills my car batteries too).  Replacement battery (same type as original) is currently going strong but I always have the scooter on a battery maintainer when garaged.  I use Rotella T 15-40 oil.

All that said, I'm thinking that maybe those of us that haven't had any issues just haven't said anything on the forum.

Those people with starting problems certainly can't be happy with a non-starter but are there really that many?
