Non-ethanol, 91 octane.  No special reason, except for purposely putting non-ethanol gas in it.

I have found Gulf Premium gives the best MPG and power.

Next is Exxon super and then Sunoco super.

Iridium spark plug and synthetic purple oil seems to quiet the engine and along with careful trial and error of tire pressure and the use of Dynabeads to balance tires. All seem to work together for a great ride.

MPG avg is 80-100, top spead flat road is 58-62, highway downhill 76, 79 when riding the draft of a truck (all sppeds after realcuating the speedometer that is off by 6-8 MPH).

My weight is 170, plus about 20lbs of gear.

In Wisconsin where I live, there are very few stations that carry non-ethanol gas.

Almost all of the gas stations in the USA have ethanol in the gas . On multi-cylinder vehicles such as cars and trucks it is not very noticeable , but in small single cylinder engines it causes a lot of problems . Non ethanol gas is preferable for many reasons . You can find a list of non ethanol stations at pure-gas.org . Good luck .

Regular, 87 octane.  It runs just fine on it so why spend extra $ on premium?

Maybe it adds up over time, but I don't mind paying the extra $0.25 per fill up. :)

*sigh*

So tired of this. I wanna see some studies. I shared the wiki on octane -- but hey, that can't be right.

Let me see the study that says ethanol @ 10% is harmful / gives worse fuel economy in small gasoline engines.

Let me see the study that says paying more for high octane fuels for low-compression engines makes sense.

Until then, I'm done with the old wives' tales.

Sigh , anyone interested can google "e10 and small engines" . There is a plethora of information to read and then you can form your own opinions .

I've only seen opinion pieces and anecdotal tales. I want data. If you ever run across any, please let me know.

Ditto if you ever find the person that buys the second Kevlar belt.  ;)

Note sure how close to data scooter engine's you guys would accept, but here's a reference...

http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/ethanol.shtml, which has references from this study:
http://feerc.ornl.gov/pdfs/pub_int_blends_rpt1_updated.pdf

The facts are that energy content of ethanol is indeed less, so with an ethanol blend you will get poorer mileage.

For the other potential harmful effects (i.e. increased exhaust temp), I'd not be worried. I'd expect most manufacturers of modern engine systems to already have taken the possibility of running with low-percentage ethanol blends into consideration during its design.

Actually, if one is that concerned about using gasohol in your Kymco scoot, I'd suggest asking Kymco directly.

$.025 per fillup won't ever add up to much, however, High octane gas has NO MORE ENERGY than regular gas.  It only has more resistance to preignition and detonation.  If you engine does not knock or ping on regular gas, premium won't give it any more performance.  The only exception to this are some high tech engines which automatically retard the ignition when they sense knocking or pinging.  I don't think any Kymco engines have this feature.

As for ethanol, it does have a lower energy content than gas so it will reduce performance however I don't know if it will be enough to notice.
