going through deep water

Hi all.

I have a 125cc super so let me know if im in the wrong section... but i have a small question as i think the 150 is prob the same.

I went through some pretty deep water today on my way home from work. It was level with the floor plate on the bike.. now, the motor didnt miss a single beat, but just after crossing this water i had to go up a hill and i gave it some gas and it felt like the belt was slipping! (im pretty sure it was not the tyre) ... now i noticed there is a tube at the front of the belt cover i guess to bring in cool air, and a small outlet at the back to let the hot air out... so my question:

If water gets in this compartment, can it get out (ie is there a drain?) ... i think im gonna re-route the rubber pipe so water cannot go up it again though.

..wellll..it's not a frikin 4-wheeler, or an SUV, so riding in water up to the floor ain't usually experienced...

..i'd suspect that the residual ....umm..moisture...DANG!!... made it into the vent of your cvt case, causing the belt to slip......

Daily routine for me during rainy fall days. I have 1-2 kms from my house to the main road, and road water drainage is not exactly well engineered...

Imagine how most scoots are driven in subtropic areas and places like rural Thailand, Vietnam etc. :)

Last time some water entered the belt/variator area and the belt started to skid... :(

cheers for the comments, that confirms that it was indeed the belt that was slipping..

Yeah where i work the road gets flooded really easy. my old speedfight used to fly through the water, the people who work with me used to ask me if i came in "jetski" mode haha.

My question that im more worried about is... is there a way for the water to ESCAPE from the belt cover once its sucked in via the cooling air intake? thanks all :)

Ah ok.. will check out this vent now i know where to look :) cause its brand new i didnt wanna start taking it to bits just yet without some guidance. Cheers!

You might wanna crack open the case (cvt) and check for mud and rocks. Oh and its a scooter not a jet ski...  ;)

Agreed Open it up SOON. All the cvt parts depend on "self lubrication". There are springs/bushings/dissimilar metals that will self destruct if left to rust. You could wd 40 SOAK it all or preferably disassemble/clean/reassemble it all. Trouble WILL show up.
