Technical | How To / Another one bites the dust...
« on: February 07, 2014, 10:51:37 PM »
Just blew my third piston on my Peop. Actually it happened about a month ago and I was just too lazy, or it was too cold, or I really didn't want to find out what happened  ;) . Been riding my beater zx50 on the occasion it's warm enough or I really need to be somewhere. About to transfer to a university so only taking online classes this semester. Sort of an intermission for me.  :D

For those of you who don't know, I have a 2010 People 50 2t. Has tecnigas pipe, malossi variator, dell orto carb, malossi 70cc bbk, and... sh** I can't remember what else.  ::)

I have a few options for rebuilding the top end this time. I'll get to that. Fist lets see some pics of the blow components huh...

Eye Candy | Videos and Pics / First snow of the year on my scoot
« on: January 18, 2013, 01:51:58 AM »
Almost had to leave my scoot at school tonight. Snow arrived before predicted. A buddy in my class offered to throw it in the back of his big ass diesel truck. I accepted. Here's what it looked like when I got it back to the house.

The guy has a camper shell on his truck so we had to lay the old peop on its side for the first time in its life  :'(. Might have a few more scratches on it but it's better getting stolen by some thug. This guy didn't have to help me out tonight but he did. I can't tell you guys how grateful I am for his good deed. It's something I will never forget  :)

General Discussion / Shopping for new helmet
« on: September 12, 2012, 02:29:56 AM »
I'm shopping for a new helmet

Any recommendations?

I want a full face helmet. Maybe modular, but I'm afraid a modular will not give me a good seal around my chin/neck for the winter.

My old helmet is an Icon. I like it. A little hot in the summer(It's black). The face shield does not latch on one side anymore. Unfortunately, I'm gonna have to replace the entire helmet. Winter is coming soon and I'm gonna need the shield to close and seal.

I'd rather be warm in the winter than hot in the summer. I don't like the crazy graphics, just a solid color. White or maybe a dark red to match the Peop. I'd like to spend less than or around $200. Less is better. I'm willing to pay for a good one though. I know $50 helmets suck.

Thoughts? Ideas?

Technical | How To / Using oil tank as a 2nd fuel tank
« on: August 18, 2012, 06:54:57 PM »
I've really been thinking about this lately. Sometimes I ride long distances and have to carry fuel with me. Not only is it dangerous it's a pain in the ass to make room for it under the seat. So first I was thinking about using it as sort of a reserve tank with a 2 way valve. But, I'm having trouble finding a 2 way valve to use with these tiny fuel lines. I also don't like this idea because the gas in the oil tank would get old unless I used it up every once in while.

So I've been doing some research on the web. I found something interesting on a jet ski forum. One guy has done this on a few skis. He says you take the vent from the fuel tank and connect it to the bottom of the oil tank(with premix gas in it of course) and the oil tank has its own vent. So as the fuel in the main tank drops, it draws in more gas from the oil tank. The oil tank will run out first but that's ok. Only problem with this is I don't think my people has a vent line. The cap is the vent.

The other option I have considered is finding a Y fitting and just connecting the main tank, the oil tank, and the line to the fuel filter all together. This would be more convenient because the oil tank would fill as the main tank is filled.

What do you guys think?

Technical | How To / Restricted rear pulley on 2010 People 2t
« on: August 17, 2012, 10:19:02 PM »
Finally giving some attention to my CVT today. Got some new rollers and the belt I bought almost a year ago  :D. Anyway, I have some pics of my rear pulley. I remember wordslinger had some pics of the restriction in the rear pulley.

I'm guessing that little ridge inside there is the restriction? Is there anyway to remove it or do I need a whole new pulley?

General Discussion / Types of metals project
« on: July 19, 2012, 04:43:24 AM »
I have a final project I'm doing for an engineering materials class that's due Monday. Last day of class thank god. Figured there are some pretty smart fellers on here. Fart smellers too  :D. Sorry... Enough  ;D.

Anyway we need 35 different samples of different types of metals to mount to a project board. So far we have most of the basics (Steel, copper, brass, aluminum, cast iron, iridium, platinum, silver, carbide).

So, I need to come up with some more. I have a few ideas like piston rings which I read are a hardened, fine-grained cast iron. An old wrist pin which I read most of the time is a hardened mild steel. I have an old clutch disc which I'm pretty sure is a cermet (metal/ceramic). A broken mirror stem which is chrome (chromium) plated.

I have all kinds of parts and tools in my dads building, but I'm just having trouble finding other kinds of metals. I'm also planning a trip to the hardware and home improvement stores to see what I can find. If you guys have any ideas or suggestions for me it would be very helpful. Thanks  :)

One of these days I'll post a pic of all my toys

Technical | How To / Are some variators interchangeable?
« on: May 04, 2012, 11:48:07 PM »
So I finally got back to workin on my project ZX. After a little fight getting the CVT cover off, I pulled apart the variator to find very abnormal wear on the rollers. After some investigating, I discovered some idiot decided the plastic guides were not necessary. So now the variator is shot.

Getting to my question now. I still have the stock variator for my people. Will that work in the ZX? They look identical.

People 50 / Rev limiter or not
« on: April 10, 2012, 11:25:07 PM »
Well, after almost two years of having that green wire coming off the CDI unplugged I plugged it back in just to see what happened. I don't know about the rest of the Peoples, but my 2010 2t has no restrictions in the CDI. I hit 50mph+ with no problems as usual. Just wanted to put that out there. I'm guessing none of the newer models do either.

Technical | How To / Is my engine getting too hot with 70cc BBK?
« on: April 04, 2012, 08:07:33 PM »
I've been having issues with my People 2t BBK. When I am asking a lot of the engine(mostly WOT) it will cut out and sound like sh**. Then it doesn't want to run right until it cools off completely. When I put the BBK on I put the plastic engine shroud back on with 4 holes in the top for cooling. Is the engine not getting enough fresh air because of that? Has anybody else had cooling issues? I thought it may be my jetting at first. I opened the main 1 size and it seemed to help very slightly. I don't think I'm lean but I could be wrong. I am considering opening it up a little more. I really need to do some plug chops. Just having trouble finding the autolite 4092 I used to get. They don't stock them at my local auto stores anymore.

Technical | How To / Pre-mix ratio
« on: April 04, 2012, 07:56:54 PM »
What ratio of 2t oil to gas do you guys use?

I am mixing about 4 ounces to a gallon of gas. Is that too much? The mechanic at my dealer told me to start with about 4-5 ounces per gallon to break in the new kit. I'm well past the break in period now and still at the same ratio. What should I do? I'd like to see what you guys with BB kits are using.
