Sounds like you need a 150cc scooter. Thats the only sure way to get the performance you want and still have a reliable ride.

I buy used so I am not really concerned with the dealers. I definitely consider your parts 1 & 2 Stig. Great post sir.

#1 - is the scooter a good fit for my DIY servicing skills?
#2 - are parts available & simple to find?

Leaving the body down below and moving up to the head, where the brain resides, or should. I thought that with age, wisdom increases, or should. So my question is this: How old do you gotta be to know it's too darn cold to be riding anything that doesn't have climate control? Anybody got a chart for that?  I mean, come on guys, how many of us don't have two or three cars/trucks, we could be riding in??? If you're out there riding in weather that makes you pull over and grab the muffler, then maybe your head is in the wrong place.

I agree with you in theory, but I am still young enough at heart to enjoy the challenge of overcoming adverse conditions. For me, its kind of a mini-adventure. Motorcycle riders are a different breed. Scooter riders seem to be differenter.  :)

2 degrees above 0  C.    nice and sunny today, good for a nice ride,   installed the moose handle bar mitts,  made a big differance  after 60 miles just started to get cold finger tips, passing a car I noticed I was moving at 145 Km.  per hour,  seems to have more power with the cold weather,  but uses more gas ,  high test # 91  at canadian tire gas bars   0 ETHINAL right across canada, 91 only,.  got home at 3968 miles on the odo dial,

Glad to hear you can still get a ride in De Dee. I tried the mitts, but I had a lot of trouble getting my hands back in them if I ever took them out. 90 MPH? You need to slow it down young man!  ;)

To answer your question directly, when I am cold, less wind is better.

Cleaning the carberatur jets and internals is the first thing I would do. Its inexpensive, relatively easy, and usually effective.

You probably were at some point.

Yep. English, Irish, and Scottish! And some others I am sure.

Thanks for all the help!

I guess I can definitely cross performance off my list of concerns.

No question that scooters are just inherently geared towards carrying things. I seem to recall someone saying they're like two wheeled pickup trucks, which is apt. I'm sure I could fit quite a lot of beer in the top box, under the seat, and by my legs on a People 250.

On the motorcycle I'm considering in particular, it sounds especially sounds like it takes some effort to get it ready for all the bags. For me, at this point, that just sounds more fun than discouraging though.

Also agreed that for cities / stop and go traffic, scooters are an obvious choice. But less of a concern for me, living in the middle of nowhere -- I'm more concerned with the 40-100 mile trip to get to the city than how it is driving around it.

Also, that motorcycle ergonomics website is amazing, although I'm not totally sure how to interpret the information.

According to it, it seems like the small cruisers and the People 250 have you in very similar positions though?

At some point I will probably get a Honda Pacific Coast. They are older but worth a look.

Morning Mr Paul

Nice pictures Snorvey! How cold is it there?

Yesterday, and for the coming week, it's forecast to be around 10C (48F) - which is perfectly fine behind the big screen.

Last week it was about 3C (37F) - Tolerable, but not for long (although heated gloves are on the way!)

January and February tend to be the coldest months here.

Thanks Snorvey. It gets colder here in Georgia, but I am certain its not as damp. You will love the heated gloves and how warmer the rest of you feels when you wear them. Since I ride year-round I have heated grips and I would not ride without them!
