Hose and Canisters--Why So Complicated?

Recently, a dealership mechanic told me the hose and canister system on my 2009 Venox was the most complicated mess he had ever seen, and that it was over-engineered.  I tend to agree that it does look a bit like Rube Goldberg (look him up) designed it.  What , in fact, is the purpose of the 3 large and 1 small canister and hose system?  Can the system be removed without ruining the performance of the bike?  My state (Georgia) does not have motorcycle inspections, so emissions are not an issue.

i am not sure about removing it because the carb on this bike is pretty sensitive. but if you get use to it, its not a great deal of tubes, most of it stays on the bike when you remove the airbox to get to the carb. if this is a lot of tubes try looking at an intruder with one carb in the front and one in the back cylinder, now thats a lot of tubes and cable.
