Rider or Driver
« on: June 03, 2020, 04:36:34 AM »
I'm celebrating 10 years of riding this year. Though I've been driving cars since I got my license at 17, today I realize I'm more a rider at heart. Heading towards my bank in our car (with the pandemic happening bank lobbies are closed so it's easier to use the drive through) I was excited to see a motorcycle up ahead on our main street coming in the opposite lane, and before I realized it I was all set to give the 2-finger salute.

I stopped myself because I was in a car with the door closed and the window down, but it just kind of hit me. The muscle memory was there - I'm a rider at heart.

Anyone feel the same? Anyone have a moment that identified who you are. 2-wheels or 4-four?

- Wolf

Giving someone a 2 finger salute means something completely different in the UK...

I was all set to answer not really when I'm in the truck I'm isolated from the outside in my cacoon. Then I thought back to my trip to Yellowstone driving around the park in the truck wishing I had my motorcycle with me and how much nicer it would be to explore the park.
In parts 200S and Grand Vista and my motorcycles 2 CS BMW'S and one GS BMW.

Sold-32 Kymco scooters of various sizes this summer.

Rider for sure. Only started driving for my partner, really, and if it weren't for her I'd just keep a bike.

I’ve had 20+ years of my working life where I didn’t even own a car. Guess that answers the question?  My twitter bio reads “Husband, Dad & Biker.  Yes, definitely, the last came first!”

Started driving when I was 11 (one time, grandmother's wide track Pontiac )....
Then rode Honda bikes.
Actually learned to drive in the Vietnam war.
A beat up, red-lined 3/4 ton truck - when I volunteered to make the mail run between our Evac Hosp and the airstrip, during my final 2 weeks In-Country. Didn't let on that I didn't know what I was doing.
The airstrip had cold Cokes!! in a cooler.
Had one crash in first 100 meters....then got it sorted, pretty much.
Unsecured roads... (supposedly cleared of mines every night by the always humorous/hapless ARVN troops)
So I was advised to try to outrun the odd snipers and the mines by driving like a B.O.O.Hell!

sorry, what was the question again?

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

When I find myself subconsciously leaning into curves in the Mazda I know I'm meant for two wheels.
Become the best you can with what you have.

only able to ride from 1-3 days per week from the Spring through the Fall...but think about riding all day, every day. Also have to fight the urge to give the biker wave while in the car...always turn to look at any motorcycle I pass while driving on the road...and use same riding safety tactics while driving car (spacing, escape routes, intersection awareness, etc.)

Browse scooter and motorcycle forums and websites every day...view biking related youtube vids at night...

So really a driver but with the soul of a rider??

When driving, have to go somewhere.  It's all about the destination.
When riding, get to go somewhere.  It's all about the journey.
2014 BV 350  "IndiGO" (fast, strong and tireless)
2006 Honda Rebel 250  "Snow Leopard" (stealthy, agile and durable)
2018 Lance Cali Classic 200i  "Black Panther" (smooth, nimble, quiet and quick)
2016 Wolf V-50 (sold)

Wanted a Kymco, ended up w a Lance, but that forum is inactive, so I am here
