Downtown 300 / Downtown seat cushion/pad
« on: August 25, 2019, 04:45:12 PM »
I just completed an 8 day road trip from Philadelphia to the Cabot Trail in Nova Scotia, Canada. My bike performed flawlessly, despite needing a new front tire and it being past the time to replace the belt drive. Having a throttle assist made some of the marathon rides possible, but an unexpected problem that came up was saddle soreness on the ride back (an all day 17 hour ride).

I had purchased a neck cushion at a Service plaza as it was the only thing available in the area of seating comfort, and used it to sit on. It made a huge difference and probably without it I wouldn't have finished my ride (yeah, the discomfort was that bad).

It'll be a while before I take on another long road trip, but does anyone have any suggestions for a good seat cushion, or pad for the Downtown, or a creative fix along the lines I used, but better?

General Discussion / Rain Gear

I'm considering ordering/purchasing some rain gear. I wear a large armored riding jacket. Should I order a rain jacket that is also a Large to wear over my armored jacket, or go the next size up to Extra Large?

Roadcraft / Horn Vs. Brake
« on: July 28, 2019, 04:13:10 PM »
One of the things I've trained myself to do is to cover my horn. I do this whenever I'm passing a car that has the potential of making an unexpected left turn in front of me, while I eye their front left wheel for any signs of a change in direction.

It's muscle memory for me at this point, and I'm actually surprised how quickly my thumb will react in hitting my horn in emergency situations. It's both saved and has gotten me out of a lot of close calls.

A few days ago a SUV cut into my lane on a four lane highway. I was in a center lane and they were in the cruising lane on the far right. It was during rush hour and the flow of traffic was about 60 mph. When the car swerved into my lane my thumb instantly hit my horn button followed my both my hands going for my brake levers. In the time this took the SUV swerved back into their lane on hearing my horn, allowing me to stop myself from grabbing my brakes in a full panic stop which could've had the potential of casing a lock up and low side crash.

The horn gave me the time I needed to access the situation and make the decision not to panic fully.

Does anyone else favor their horn to the point of it's a reflex, or have you had other experiences where the brakes are your first response, and done so in a controlled way?

Technical | How To / Fuel Reserve bottle
« on: July 16, 2019, 03:13:36 PM »
Any suggestions for a fuel reserve bottle for a scooter? The ones I've seen are designed to be poured directly into a MC gas tank. A lot of scooters don't have openly accessible gas tanks and may require a funnel to pour the gas in. Are there any bottles that have that kind of an attachment, or should I just jury-rig something?

Downtown 300 / Throttle Assist for the Downtown
« on: July 10, 2019, 03:07:08 AM »
I'm getting ready for a long distant ride from Philadelphia to Nova Scotia, Canada. Does any one use a throttle assist, and if so what's a good brand that will fit on the DT's throttle?

Like the way animals have names to describe them in numbers - murder of crows, school of fish, a band of Gorillas, etc. ... . Does one exist for seeing a group of scooter riders?

Roadcraft / Does the Road Make the Rider?
« on: March 13, 2019, 02:19:26 AM »
Just saw this recent article on where the most aggressive drivers are located. Philadelphia, where I've been commuting for the past 9 years is No. 2. Am I a survivor or a better rider?

Anyone ride on the place that makes the list?

So, I'm allergic to chocolate, but I thought this could make a good gift for any scooter rider -  Chocolate Scooters for Christmas.
