General Discussion / talked a little 'scooters' this morning....
« on: April 30, 2024, 12:56:15 AM »
Common for some folks - rare for me!

Early this morning, an elderly lady of means, apparently, slid out of her Escalade and walked past.
Looking at my LIKE parked by the curb, she asked, "Is that yours?"
"Yes ma'am."

"It looks like fun!"
"It is!"

Later a mail man rode up on his scooter. He pops into Tom's most mornings on his way to the post Office, just down the street.
We chatted about his scooter. It's a 50 and he lives in the village - so perfectly good for intown use.

Later a passerby asked, looking it over, "Is that a Vespa?"

"Oh goodness....no! that kinda stuff can get a fellow beat up! It's Chinese!"

He was puzzled at my remark. He doesn't know Vespa owners.

Low bright sun in my face on much of my ride home...so stopped and put the painter's tape on. Works a treat - much better than my drop-down sun glass thing. That darkens everything. Including shadows. In and out of tree shadows all the way home - any one of which can be hiding a deer standing in the road. Ask me how I know!

It ain't elegant. But look at the rider!

Hope this works for you!

We've vacationed this area in the summer for 15 yrs - never really a worry about rain dampening the day. Afternoon thunder boomers come and go quickly most days....sun pops out more humid than ever!

General Discussion / oh what the Ache... Your best TACO~?
« on: April 27, 2024, 06:09:06 PM »
4 summers ago we discovered the best tacos ever, in Yellow Springs, OH...
MIGUEL'S started as a food truck, in a gravel lot behind Tom's grocery.
You sort of had to know he was back there...that kinda place.

One day my daughter and I saw a small gathering, in an unlikely area, smelled food - and went to investigate.

We ordered a couple of tacos, me steak, daughter grilled veggie...then carried our food around to our fav spot on the sidewalk to people watch. We were happy we'd investigated!

little story about old Miguel....
The village raised his bail to get him out of the Green County jail after a tail-light stop.
Something to do with a green card?

This is partly due to the nature and the bent of this village - and because of his great tacos!

my daughter just remined me - the was the same day she saved a caterpillar form certain death in the street.

collected him...

and put him up in a tree....

....where the birds will eat him...

General Discussion / NSR: stuff you've carried home
« on: April 27, 2024, 12:59:54 PM »
I was out this morning with the pup and craned my neck up to gaze at this birch tree in the corner of our front yard.
It still gives me a kick in the pants to think that I brought this triple trunked birch (burlap covered root-ball and all) home from Lowe's in my VW bus after we bought the house.
It is the largest owner planted tree, by far, in the neighborhood! I planted trees all round the house - now I have no one but myself to blame, or to rake, in the fall!

I'm not sure I'd do it again, but hey~....you only go around once!

What's the biggest thing you've ever carried home?

General Discussion / Forum facts, earliest, most active, etc.

Was looking over the member info today and thought maybe these bits might be of interest.

skadamo launched this forum on November, 15th, 2007.

There are 12,822 registered members.

Taking a guess here:

I think the oldest, sorry Karl!, earliest and most-active member is CROSSBOLT. He came in on the truck with the second load of lumber. Karl registered on January 4, 2009. And thankfully, continues to be quite active here!

The roster based on the number of posts, with evidence of recent activity, would also include:

Neil
Iahawk
Klaviator
Ruffus
randyo
big blue
and.... rjs987

One of my first posts, in 2013, was to ask if the LIKE200i would make a reliable work commuter.
I received positive responses from veteran owner/members.....and have not looked back with this fun scooter!

General Discussion / NSR: 2 Beasts: a Carpathian & Hx of the dog
« on: April 22, 2024, 02:07:10 PM »
Yesterday in Y.S. I was standing near the owner of this beast of a Land Rover....the 'Defender' on the rear was impressive enough to me!. Then he added something about it being the Carpathian version.
That sounded faintly biblical! Which seemed to suit the appearance of the beast!
(I've seen everything from a Bugatti Chiron on down parked in this village)

Neil, what am I looking at here? Rare? Expensive?

and to the original UnderDog Cafe' logo....this was my fav, painted on the wall for years, long gone now.
A dog laying on his tum, smoking a cigarette while reading the newspaper with a steaming cup of coffee nearby....perfectly represented this cafe'....and the village itself!

General Discussion / NSR: breakfast at the Dog with the ladies
« on: April 21, 2024, 07:32:44 PM »
Wife and daughter joined me for breakfast at the UnderDog Cafe' in Y.S.

This cafe', known as the "village's living room" by the locals, fills up quickly for their breakfasts, pastry and coffee selections.
The 'cloud' ceiling, the VanGogh yellow walls and mismatched furniture  are a hoot! Atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. Patrons with laptops nursing a coffee for hours after the breakfast rush.

Place your order up at the coffee counter....

Their Veggie Scramble and Breakfast Burrito are famouse....while the giant muffins are a wonderful blend of magazines, nuts and berries!

that cup of sauce next to my veg scramble is liquid fire!...and yeah, the girl put too much cream in my coffee. After covid we've lost use of the half/half dispenser.
Stig

(put a scooter somewhere in it and show us where you like to go to eat)

Think my last ride was March 25th....so it was good to be out riding again.
All three of us came down with covid.....they being somewhat younger, recovered more quickly.
I'm fine, although I can no longer play the violin.

Love the blue/black skies of early mornings.

went close to 3 weeks without coffee...heading down to Dino's!
