Title: OEM Kymco belt with 18K mi on it...
Post by: mrbios on July 30, 2019, 09:47:17 PM
OEM Kymco belt (replaced in 8/2013) mfg in 2009 bought from local dealer for $85! now has 18K mi on it... is it ok to keep using?  Seems to be working fine?

Also, if I replace it should I go with a Kevlar belt or a particular aftermarket brand?

What is the specified replacement interval according to your owner's manual?
Most feel the stock Kymco belt is superior to all others.

I think it's 15 thousand miles is when it's supposed to be replaced and thanks for that information I didn't know I thought maybe people liked the aftermarket belts better. Also I saved the original belt which I changed at 10,000 miles there was nothing wrong with it I just thought maybe I should change it you think it would be a mistake to put it on and get some more use out of it?

The owner's manual says 20,000km intervals. I have personally done 28,000km on mine but at that point the belt is so worn it doesn't shift properly on the pulleys. OEM is best.

On 11th maxi rubber band drive scooter and over 400,000 miles with them----OEM belts, changed at maker's recommended intervals has kept me from walking----only one broken belt in these miles.  I view the belts as the weakest link in the drive train.  Just better to take no chances.

I always carry spare belt.
