Probably one vane from a wind turbine. They are much longer than they appear from a distance.

They both have the ABS sensor ring (the smaller ring). The one on the left, since it says ABS, will have the proper sensor and software to detect and control the ABS system. It may be hidden behind the brakes. The one on the right probably does not have the ABS system installed. As far as I know we did not get any DT 300 with ABS in North America. Europe gets all the good stuff. Hope this is the correct answers.

To Stuo: Yes, I disabled the seat latches and the light. I don't have the DT anymore, so my memory may be a bit off, but what I did was remove the latches from the seat (now no security for the area), then using a screwdriver, I had the catches move to the engaged position. This turned off the dash met in light. I also unplugged the underseat light as I found it useless. Hope this works. Did this after the release refused to release one time and I got scared I would someday be caught with an un-openable seat area.

General Discussion / Re: What has been your warranty experience? ?
« on: July 16, 2017, 02:57:50 AM »
Three and a half seasons of use and 17000 km since I bought new and no need for warranty use. DT is a great machine. I have a GTI 300 at my winter home and it also is great. No record of having need for warranty service from the previous owner.Just found out that my local summer dealer will no longer sell Kymco, but will continue service and parts. They do too much rental business year round, so dropped a "loser". Last DT sold for $2800 new - big loss they said. Only other dealer I know of is 300 km away.

General Discussion / Re: Tire pressure and ride feel
« on: July 08, 2017, 03:26:07 AM »
When I went back to the mechanic to complain about the high tire pressure, he said that he always leaves mc tires at a high pressure and advises the owner to adjust the pressure to what they prefer as he has found there is so much variation of preferences. But he did not inform me of that policy. He did apologize and gave me a great deal on a subsequent car oil change. Happy ending.

Robo seems to have a reasonable answer. But I would have expected a much harsher ride as Stig suggests. When I had the screw in the rear tire a few years ago, the tire never looked flat even with 0 psi, but of course it rode squirrley. I thought high pressure would lead to wander, but it did not. Good to know that the significantly higher pressure did not affect handling, which means riding safety may not be compromised other than the chance of a blown tire. Yes the tire was inflated well beyond the rating on the sidewall of 33 psi as shown on a photo on another post yesterday. As an aside: that was a lovely 100 km ride through the foothills west of town on a lovely 25oC day. Cheers everyone.

General Discussion / Tire pressure and ride feel
« on: June 26, 2017, 03:26:17 AM »
I changed out the worn front Maxxis to a Michelin Power Pure on my DT 300.I brought the wheel to a local auto repair shop that had been recommended to install mc tires. The mechanic is a mc rider and does mc work on the side. Re-installed the wheel and rode it for a few days both in town and on the highway for about 300 km. Speed from 40 kph to 110 kph. Seemed like a wonderful ride and experience. The grip and comfort seemed improved from the worn Maxxis. Changed oil yesterday and while the scoot was on the center stand I noticed a screw in the rear tire. Checked the pressure and it was normal, so left the well worn screw in place. Thought to myself that maybe I should also check the front tire pressure. Did. Pressure was 55 psi. OMG!! Mechanic must not have released the pressure down to the proper run pressure after seating the bead. After setting the pressure down to 32 psi (my normal), I went for a 100 km ride today mostly on 80 kph highway and some town roads. The feel and comfort was the same. Now my question for you is: why is the ride feel the same when grossly over inflated to 55 psi as when properly inflated to 32 psi. I had no idea at all that the tire was over inflated? So how does this explain the often seen suggestion to add or remove 2 psi to change the handling? Is the Power Pure such a good tire that over inflation was not noticed? Is the DT300 such a good mc that the over inflation was not noticed? It scares me that I could have had a blow out at 110 kph on the highway. Good scooter God on my shoulder!

I apologize. There is both a Trip A and Trip B. Crossbolt is correct. I just have never used Trip B.

My DT300 must be different from yours, mousejunk. I have three odometer modes: one for lifetime odometer which is not resetable. Another with no designation on the display is for the service reminder distance and resetable back to zero by holding both buttons. The third is the only trip odometer and is resetable by holding both buttons. My DT was purchased in Canada and I believe is the same as all the American imported DT's.

You might want to consider a Piaggio MP3. This is a three wheel 400cc or 500cc scooter (cvt). They have the ability to lock the suspension when stopped at a light or stop sign. For access, you may be able to step on the "running board" and swing the leg a bit to get it over the hump. Enough power for touring. They lean when cornering so you will be comfortable with the bike or mc feel. Vespa and Piaggio dealers sell them. They are not common and have had some problems, especially with parts availability and expensive service. But these may not be of over riding concern with your disability. There are some on Craigslist or Cycletrader. Check their web site for specs and if they may be of interest. Adding a rear axle adds much weight, so small scooter conversions may be too under powered for touring. I have seen some Burgman 650's that have been converted professionally and they look really good for touring. Do a lot of searching of various forums and take your time to make a good informed decision. Good luck.

To RedK:
"<Oil is properly full, yet can use a change.">
That Green/Red indicator is only a mileage counter. When it turns Red you are to change oil. There is no oil filter, so mileage between changes is very short (I think it is only 1000 miles). Good thing it only takes about 1 quart of oil and is super easy to change.

Downtown 300 / Re: What did you do to your DownTown today?

Took the DT for coffee this morning (no this is not Stig talking). Stopped at a 4 way sign and when I went to go the scoot hesitated. What is that? Continued on and there was intermittent hesitation all the way over to McD's and back. Went out this afternoon and the hesitation was worse. Thought it might be just bad gas, so went to an 80 kph road and it really showed. Load dependent. Back home before I got stranded. I took the seat and bucket off and started to look. My first thought was the spark plug. Bingo! The plug wire was literally holding on by a thread, resting on the last few mm of the rubber boot. I had replaced the plug at about 500 km and it has 13000 km now, so why did the plug wire release? Probably the vibration over the past four years. It fits snuggly now, so should stay in place for another 13000km or more?? Sure felt good to diagnose the problem and find the cause on the first try. Successful afternoon on the DT.

Two days ago I went for a trip up to Quartzite, AZ in the desert at 90oF +. Hour and a half each way. Wore mesh jacket, boots, jeans and modular helmet. Back to the sun on way out. Very comfortable for temps. Facing the sun on the way home. At highway speed (60+ mph) was comfortable. Got to 55 mph near the city and became warmer in the body. Never did notice a hot bum. My People 300 always feels comfortable on the seat and never too hot. Great machine for what it is intended for which is a compromise city and highway machine. Love it.
