Agility 125 / Brake Pad Removal A125 - HELP!
« on: January 31, 2013, 12:37:26 AM »
hello its your good 'bud MrKymco  ;D

I am replacing my pads and can't seem to get them off. i have looked in the owners and service manual and see no instructions? Maybe my manual is a bit out of date? But anyway I cannot get 'em out!

Been following youtube vids where you squeeze the thing one way real hard and the pads pop out. But it's not an A125. I tried this a lot and while it did look as if the pad came close to coming off the hinge, close is not good enough. And even so the other side seemd as secure as ever as if the pads were not even close to popping out. Then a neighbor decided to come along and squeeze the brake lever and the pads came even closer together and would not budge. I got 'em separated and tried the squeeze thing again, but no go.

Ok, so I also saw on youtube a guy with a China scoot and he had to use an allan wrench to remove two screws to get his pads out. I looked closely at the outer part of the calipar / pad holder housing thing and it seems to have these two "screws."  Do I need to removed these (if thats what they are?) to get the pads out?  Also, since the dude came along and squeezed the brake lever the calipar pistons appear fully extended. Is this going to be a problem with removal / replacement of pads?

Any and all help / instructions is appreciated.

Thanks!

Agility 125 / Yet Another Tire Question
« on: June 26, 2012, 06:17:40 AM »
Hi Guys and Girls. Your old friend Mr Kymco is in da house =]

Question: Can I fit a 130/70-12 on my front wheel (A125) without adverse affects? It calls for 120/70-12 front, as you may well know. And of course the aforementioned 130/70-12 on the rear. But I has TWO 130/70-12's coming, so just wondering?  Might be more in the pipeline, too.

Thanks a ton!!

General Discussion / Help Me Find An Oil Leak (Fun!)
« on: May 12, 2011, 08:57:47 AM »
Ah yes, the fun we can have!  ::)

Hi guys and girls. I have a thread in the Agility 125 forum but thought I would bring the issue here after further investigation.

My Agility 125 with only 2300 miles on the clock is leaking oil like crazy, but only while riding / accelerating.  It is coming from the left side near the transmission case. In fact it looks as though it might start above the case (or on top) and run down. Tomorrow I am going to see if I can locate the exact location of the leak, but would like some direction as to what I am looking for, and where?

I have read of "overflow tubes," "crankcase ventilation,"  "compromised seals," etc. It's just so strange! History of the scoot service wise is first service at 600 miles, oil change with 600-650ml at 1300 miles, oil change with 600-650ml at 2100 miles. That's it! I specify the amount of oil to demonstrate I have not overfilled the scoot as to build too much oil pressure, and I always get every last drop of oil out of the scoot before putting new in, and of course check the level when done. Perfect!

It does NOT leak overnight. It does not leak when the scoot is not running. But today it leaked for the first time when just idling. At least so far as I know. Not a little oil, but quite a lot. At least it looks like a lot on the ground. But It must not be very much in reality because when I check the oil level it seems to not change very much.

So, if it is NOT a seal or gasket that is compromised, what else can it be? The oil is running DOWN the very back of the CVT cover. It doesn't run down the side of it, it doesn't hit the tire or wheel. It just drips / pours down the very back of the case. And the top of the case seems to be wet with it, as well as the bottom.

I am supposed to take it into the dealer for inspection next week, but if its something I can see and solve for myself, I will. I haven't an impact wrench or anything like that yet, so taking the CVT case / cover off is out of the question. But I have googled and read of tubes that need to be vented, bolts that may need to be tightened in some cases, and thought that could be the case here, too? At least that is what I am hoping for :(

Lastly, is Kymco good about warranty claims? I did have my first service at the dealer and have changed my oil twice since then (although only called for once) and that's about all there is to it. No other service was required except a valve inspection and I did that, too. Didn't touch a thing because they are within spec. And that couldn't cause a leak, anyway!  So I hope I am good to go with a warranty claim. I have been nothing but good to my scooter and need it for daily transport. So I need this resolved in my favor.

Thanks for any help and guidance :)

EDIT: It is NOT gear oil....

Hi Guys

Yes, it sure looks like engine oil. What else could it be? It happens while riding and accelerating and at idle then stops. Then starts again. I thought it might be gear oil so I changed the gear oil. It looked clean. Put new gear oil in and it still leaks....but the oil is dirty! So I deduced it is engine oil. But look where it is leaking from!

You see that "shroud" where the red arrow is pointing up? Its open underneath, and the oil seems to be spilling out of there. Any ideas before I take the scoot in to the dealer?

Thanks!

General Discussion / Scooter Exhaust Leak Help
« on: May 07, 2011, 06:30:15 AM »
(i posted this at another forum, thought I should bring it here)  ;D

Hey guys

My scoot is running fine, running great. Idle is good, performance good. Never stalls, dies, or quits. So this "sound" it's making, which is sort of a "gurgle thump thump," I figure is an exhaust leak, and a neighbor friend says the same.

Kymco Agility 125, much like any other gy6 125 with all the CARB stuff on it. My question is where should I check FIRST, and what is the most likely culprit? I have deduced the sound is not coming from the engine itself, but in and around the exhaust area, right side of the bike. No smoking or burning of oil, or performance issues whatsoever. So, I am going to take out my pet carrier and see whats up.

However while I know to check the header pipe at the manifold (forgive me if i get things wrong i am a newb) for a blown gasket, what if that is ok? Then where do I check, or what should I check FIRST instead?

Advice from anyone is fine. Doesn't have to be a Kymco or Agility owner as I figure this is fairly straightforward stuff. Also I assume before I loosen the header bolts or w/e to loosen the muffler mount bolts first, correct? That way the pipe will drop down easier. And maybe use a prop up thing for the muffler so it doesn't fall?

What else, guys? And thanks!  ;D

Hi guys and girls :)

Ok a couple of quick questions. This is what the service manual says:

Inspect and adjust the valve clearance.
Valve Clearance: IN : 0.04mm
EX: 0.04mm

However I recall reading somewhere this is for the Agility 50, and the 125 is different? Is this a fact, or am I mistaken? I watched a video on youtube of a guy adjusting the valves on his Super 8 and he says 0.04mm for both valves but idk? What say you all?

Also, the guy says the bolts on the valve cover are to be tightened to 16 foot pounds per the manual, but only tighten them to 10 foot pounds or you can damage the valve cover? Make any sense to you guys? And what should the Agility bolts on the cover be tightened to? It's all in metric and I am confused :(

AND, do I need a torque wrench for this, or can I get away without one if I am careful?

Ok, so I guess I am going to do this later. Just a matter of taking stuff off, checking, adjust as necessary, and putting stuff back on, I guess

Thanks for the help and bye for now!  ;D

General Discussion / Kymco Slashes MSRP On Agility Models (US)
« on: April 07, 2011, 10:09:50 PM »
Boy, when it rains it pours. I wonder what scoot might be reduced in price next?

Agility 50 - MSRP $1399

Agility 125 - MSRP $1799

Kymco's lowest priced scoots all other things being equal, these scooters often sold at a discount, anyway. But not too deep outside of winter. Now it would seem as a normal order of business you can walk into a Kymco dealer and walk out with a quality 125cc  scoot  for around $2000OTD without any sort of haggle or hassle.

I know from experience these are tough small scooters. At least the 125's. I am sure others can vouch for the 50cc.  I think for $1800 the A125 does a lot of things well.

Also, maybe old news, but the People S200 is no longer  listed at the KYMCO site. Maybe it is discontinued....or maybe the page will reappear with a new MSRP?!  :o

General Discussion / Air Filters: Replace Or Clean?
« on: April 03, 2011, 04:55:42 AM »
Hi guys :)

I am coming up on 2500 miles on my scoot (Agility 125). According to my owners manual the air filter should be close to its second replacement, but I haven't even replaced it once. I took it out yesterday, checked for dirt, shook it out a little, and it looks clean as new, just about.

So does it need replacing, or am I good to go?  If it looks clean does it mean its clean? Also does their come a point where it just "wears out"  but it can't be seen by the naked eye? And lastly is their a best or better way of cleaning these things (it has a paper filter) if in fact simply cleaning and not replacing?

I wouldn't mind replacing the filter every few thousand miles or so, maybe. But every 1300 miles at around $25 a pop is a little precious imo. What say you all?

EDIT: And while I am on the topic...what about the fuel filter? My service manual says replace the "Fuel Filter Screen" at  6000 miles, but says nothing of the filter itself. Is it the same thing?  Seems an awful long interval, too.....

Agility 125 / Agility 125 Gas Cap Replacement?
« on: March 07, 2011, 01:31:05 AM »
Hi Guys

Well I have a bunch of questions about DIY maintenance and real life service intervals, but I am going to save those for a separate thread in the GD forum.

This ONE question is quick and easy, and my dealer is closed until next week so I thought I would ask here, as I have indeed googled all over and checked the manual and have come up with nothing.

What is the size gas cap I need for my Agility? I am pretty sure I could order one from the Kymco site if need be, but would like one by tomorrow and would like to not pay upwards of $30 for a gas cap. So if you can tell me the size or link me to a suitable, low cost replacement that would be great.

Also, a "one size fits all" would be ok if there is such a thing. I am hoping to be able to run down to a local hardware or auto parts store tomorrow and snatch one up for around or under $10, but want to make sure I get one that fits well. Doesn't have to be perfect, but I am tired of smelling gas coming from my scooters rear end.

Thanks!

General Discussion / Your Kymco Top Speed?
« on: February 18, 2011, 02:42:31 PM »
Hi All

I thought I would start a "Top Speed" thread here in GD, so I hope one isn't floating around somewhere. Seems when we are wanting to upgrade our bikes or people are looking for a new one, this question always comes up. But Kymco has so many models, visiting all the forums here and digging up simple info on this stuff can get confusing and time consuming. So here is a thread for all makes and models and owners to state the top speed of their scoots, and any performance mods made that have increased it, or otherwise.

You can give rider weight, mileage, location, and climate conditions of where you live. List mods, performance enhancement items, or state if you are running stock. But of course please list make, model, year, and mileage at the very least. So, I will start:

Year: 2009
Model: Agility 125
Mileage: 1500m / 2400km
Performance Upgrades: Stock
Location: Greater Los Angeles
Climate Conditions When On Road: Generally mild, 50F to 90F
Rider Weight: 250lbs
Top Speed: 56mph / 90kmph - GPS Indicated

You may also upgrade your info as time goes on, and changes occur.

Let's Go Kymco!

General Discussion / Kymco Sightings In YOUR Area!
« on: February 06, 2011, 03:13:24 AM »
Hi fellow Kymco people :)

This is a thread mostly for countries and towns, cities and jurisdictions where scooters are a bit less common. Or as a matter of fact, A LOT less common!

If you live in Taiwan, Vietnam, or someplace like that, you are probably thinking "Well where do I start? Here, there, EVERYWHERE!"  And since this is an international board of sorts I bet many of you spot Kymco scooters on the road every time you walk out your front door.

In the U.S. however, that is far from the case. I can go weeks riding around town and not see a Kymco anything. But once in awhile...I do. So this thread is for us riders who see a Kymco once in awhile and think "hey, me too!"

Sort of based on the thread they have at ModernBuddy and Modern Vespa about Buddy and Vespa sightings, this is our very own Kymco sighting thread, and I hope it hasn't been done and I just didn't look hard enough. I did a forum and Google search and nothing popped up, so I hope it's fresh.

So, without further ado, just state the what, when, and where of the sighting, and keep on the lookout. You never know when you might be out riding and see one and think "there goes a Kymco!"

Ok, I will start it off:

Friday Feb. 4, around 8:00pm on W. Colorado Blvd in Pasadena, Ca across the street from the Norton Simon Museum. Spotted a very nice white Kymco Grand Vista leaving the parking lot of an office building. Male rider, nice night to be out for one. Heck, maybe it was YOU?  ;D

Ok, now you go  =]

General Discussion / My First Attempt At An Oil Change And Lube Job
« on: January 28, 2011, 02:55:53 AM »
Hi everyone :)

I am about  to do my first very own service on my scooter and need some feedback on a few things. I have an Agility 125, and have never done anything mechanical to anything  before. But I know I can do this, I just have a few general questions and need some tips. Thanks! :)

First off, I am using full synthetic 10w40 at 1400 miles of riding. I need to know if this is ok, or should I stick with dino oil another several hundred miles for engine break in reasons?

Should I change the gear oil? I believe this was changed 700 miles ago, but can't be sure? It seems easy enough, and since the scooter is still pretty new, I figure it might not be necessary. But why not do it, anyway?

My manual states to CHANGE the air filter every 2000km. So it's time. But should I change it, or will simply cleaning it be ok? I would like to not mess with it at all for now, but if it's dirty I should know about it, I would think? It just seems a clean / swap every 2000km's is sort of precious for an air filter. I do all city riding, btw. It's not very dusty around town.

One of the big questions I have is about lube and grease points. The manual shows in general where these points are on the scoot but not close up (brake cable, wheel bearings, throttle cable, pivot points, etc) but when I look at these places on my scooter, I don't see anything or anywhere to lube up or grease! Everything seems covered by rubber or plastic or....nothing looks lubed or greased as it is, and I have no idea where or how to apply the stuff! Can someone please tell me or illustrate just where all this supposed chassis lubrication is supposed to go?

Lastly, I read on the forum the drain plug IS the oil screen bolt, also. And that is where the oil drains from. But in this video of a Super 8 oil change the guy drains oil from one side of the engine, and then removes the filter bolt. Now, I checked my Agility and it has the same bolt this guy drains from on the side there. Do I need to drain the oil like this guy does to get all the oil out, or will doing it from the filter bolt suffice?

Wow, thanks for reading all that guys (and Rhianna and Carol lol) and thank you much for any info, tips, and advice!  ;D

General Discussion / No Love For The Like 200i?
« on: January 06, 2011, 03:39:55 PM »
I noticed no forum for the Like 200i exist here, and just wanted to touch base with some owners or people with experience with this scoot. There is a Like 50cc forum, but i believe that scooter was released first in the U.S., so that makes sense. But no traffic in that forum, either.

So what's up with the Like 200i? I have read a couple of conflicting reviews on it (one generally good, one generally not so good) but it doesn't seem to be a very popular scooter. I saw it at my dealership and instantly liked its looks, styling, and design. It's fuel injected, nicely equipped, and is a good sized scooter, to boot. So why not even enough owners or interest to sustain it's own forum on the Kymco board?

I am pretty sure I want a "classic style" scooter like this within the next couple of years, and the Like 200i is in the running in my mind. But if its undesirable for some reason I sure would "Like" (you see what I did there lol) to know why?

So, why no love for the Like 200i or otherwise?  Is it just a matter of Kymco offering too many scooters so this one has gotten overlooked? I have read in some quarters that Kymco offer too many scooter choices, so sometimes buyers just get confused and overlook some models all together. But of the other "full size" classic style scooters from Taiwan I would consider (the SYM Fiddle II and Lance Cali Classic 125's, respectively) the Like 200i has them beat in my mind and otherwise, even at it's more expensive price. Fuel injected, bigger engine, nicely packaged.

So, who has one and what do you think? Or at least who has piloted one? Impressions when compared with others in its class?

Thanks  :)

Agility 125 / Tire Pressure: How Low Is Too Low?
« on: January 01, 2011, 07:10:41 PM »
Hello Fellow Agility 125 owners :)

I am trying to do everything "by the book" so far as my Agility is concerned, but figure their is room to improvise sometimes. My latest foray is into setting the tire pressure on the OEM rubber that came on the scoot.

I bought myself a tire pressure gauge and tire air pump. Checked the pressure this morning and found both tires under inflated  by several psi each. According to the owners manual the front tire is to be set at roughly 28psi, the rear at 32psi. So I set the air pressure according to spec.

But holy cow what a negative difference in ride quality. The ride went from compliant to hard and feels jittery even over smoother pavement. It hasn't felt like this in the nearly 1200 miles I have put on the scoot, or after the first service when the tech adjusted the tire pressure.

I keep reading about how it's important to keep the tires properly inflated for the sake of handling, safety, top speed, and fuel mileage. But is this a hard and fast rule?  I don't think the tires being hard as they are at spec and the ride given on account is something I can live with. If this is the way its supposed to be, maybe I can get used to it, or find a happy median? I think I would rather find a happy median or just simply set them as low as they were before I gave them more air.

Right now I have both tires set 4psi below spec. I think they were lower when I checked before, but figure I'll give this a try.

So, is this ok, and where do you set your own tire pressure? If you aren't running with the OEM tires anymore, how did you find them when you first got your bike, and where did you set them?

Any advice or suggestions is much appreciated. Even if you ride something other then an Agility.

Thanks :)

Agility 125 / Agility 125 Using Too Much Oil?
« on: December 28, 2010, 11:56:17 PM »
Hi all and Happy New Year :)

I make this thread because I trust my dealer implicitly, but he has little time to assure me or explain things to me in detail, so i come to this great forum where fellow Agility 125 owners can chime in with opinions and experiences of their own. Plus I don't want to have to rely on the dealer for every little question I have, or every little thing I want to understand. I plan on getting to know my scoot, and doing basic maintenance on it myself.  And  I need to rely on myself and fellow Agility owners to set me straight, and help get me by.

So, welcome to my Kymco Agility 125 oil consumption thread  ;D

My scoot has just over 1000 miles on it now (1700km), and went in for its first service at the 640 mile mark. So around 370 miles ago. The oil was changed, 10W40 "motorcycle oil" was used. Which I believe is synthetic, since its motorcycle oil. The oil dipstick has six "X" marks on it. When I got the scoot back from service it measured up to five X's with the dipstick fully screwed in. Now, 370 miles later, it measures up to almost, but not quite, three X's. The stick is over 1/3 covered with oil, but not quite half covered. I called my dealer and he said so long as oil is anywhere on the stick, it doesn't matter how much, it's just fine. I asked if i should add some and he said "no its ok."

Trouble is in the first 640 miles of riding before the first service, the scoot used no oil at all. The stick was always fully covered in oil. But now it seems to have lost some? I spot no leaks, no crimped hoses, never smell oil burning, the scooter seems punchier then ever and displays good power, and its performance is spot on, 100%.

I do ride aggressively however, and go WOT occasionally, but never hold it there long. I ride hills sometimes, but  I usually stay at around or under 50mph, and my commutes consist of a few miles this way or that way, and several miles this way or that. However i do extend my rides sometimes, and have had my scoot running fairly hard for almost an hour at times, and a good many miles.

So is this just normal oil consumption considering those details, or might something be amiss? At 1000 miles I would think the engine is not quite all the way broke in yet, but it sure does feel good to me. I just wonder why it used no oil in 640 miles, and now has used a noticeable amount in the last 370?

Anyway, thanks for any advice or tips, and I will use this thread to update any changes on the dipstick in the days to come, as I plan on checking the oil every other day or so.
