Aw crap I was hoping that the front winkers would tolerate just the LED lamps with out having to put a resistor in line.  Oh well I will let you know how it turns out.   Jim.

I like the original Kymco parts they seem to work much better and last far longer than any of the aftermarket parts that I have tried in my People 250S.

I am guessing that you ride under 60 mph mostly?  You seem to be getting excellent miles from your parts and pieces.  Keep riding      Jim.

Hey Kids I was hoping that someone might be able to answer this.

I am looking for equivalent bulb sizes or numbers for the turn front and rear and the stop turn lamps such as (1157) or whatever.  I have tried several avenues which so far have not panned out.   I am trying to relamp the scooter with led's and I need the standard numbers.    Thanks for your help   Jim.

One quick note there are special plugs for motorcycle tires very different from regular plugs.  the tire needs to be unmounted to install these.   they look like really fat headed golf tees.

Hey Pitta you lucky dog ya I would love to have a real People 300 here in America we got stuck with the 300 gt that has no room and no storage to try to ride long distance and the seat sucks too!

The stand is supposed to have a rubber insulater to keep it from smacking the bottom of the engine/ transmission case but they often come off I saw where one scooter owner used a piece of rubber and a band clamp.

I haven't seen a manual for the 300 People but most of the scooter is still the People 250S  they just changed the electrical and engine.

(http://www.timtaylor.net/Scooter/Manuals.htm)  try here for a People 250s manual and you will probably need t download the .RAR opener as well.

Good luck and enjoy the riding!.

the tires are really thin compared to an auto tire so any repair will be temporary, sure plug it then ride it directly to the dealer.  I prefer to buy my tires and carry them in and yeah I would love to give the dealer the profit from the tire sale but they charge pretty much full price and I can get them delivered a week later free shipping for 55% of the dealers price so...  (http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/5/32/dv/scooter-tires.aspx)

I still recommend that you have the tires balanced if you normally ride at speeds above 45 mph the wear pays for it's self  I recently changed my front tire with 21,000 miles and the reason for changing it was the amount of crazing or cracking showing up in the tread it still had 3 32nds of tread and was both round and smooth I normally get 10 14 thousand miles from the rear tire and expect to get more from the new city grips.    Jim

Technical | How To / Re: Best Brake Pads For City?
« on: March 23, 2014, 10:40:06 AM »
My own experiance with brake pads for the People 250S and grandvista are to always use only Kymco replacement pads, sure they are softer and wear a little faster but they stop well progressively and do not harm the rotor surface the way more aggressive harder pads will and in my case did.

I had the shop replace the front pads a couple of years ago and they (upgraded) the pads I noticed right away since it took twice as much force to clamp and then when I rode on cold wet days they took twice the distance to stop again with much more force.  but they wear like iron now it's the rotor that is getting grooved and the slide bolts are not being cleaned and lubed as often as a result.  So the best advice I can give you is to use factory parts and spend a few bucks and minutes every two years.     Jim.

No problem with that anything that prevents oxidation is a good thing, and I like the idea of using blue locktite on the battery bolts.  Keep riding!

Technical | How To / 250 S compression
« on: March 15, 2014, 01:00:10 PM »
The subject of engine compression came up lately between my self and my scooter mechanic

The kymco manual states that engine compression should be 15 +-2 KG/ cm2  which works out to 213 psi which seems diesel high.   What has everyone found to be ballpark good?

Upon hearing this my mech responded that he should call Kymco and see about getting some new engines since the new scooters were out of spec.  LOL..

Roadcraft / Re: going down.
« on: March 02, 2014, 04:14:12 PM »
Last May 21st. I work nights at 10 mins till 10 I struck a Raccoon and went down hard  broken collar bone broken scapula 8 broken ribs two which still wont knit and a punctured lung.   I was wearing an armor jacket boots new HJC CL Max 2 helmet and gloves it was a two lane road so after checking on the important things fingers, toes, neck all worked fine and had good feeling I did a quick assessment and decided the middle of a lane was not the best position to be in so tried to get up and that's when I felt the scapula crackling around so crawled off of the pavement and waited for someone to come along.

Nice lady stopped saw me and asked if she could help yes I replied call 911.   the ambulance ride sucked SOB hit every bump in road.   I didn't realize how bad it was until the ER doc looked over the xrays and asked me if I had a helmet on, since I was the first person living with these injuries.  sobering  On thursday Finally had surgery for collarbone nothing else.  four weeks later went to surgeons for evaluation he saw our jackets and helmets and told me I was healed and get out.

So we have been riding since all summer the bike suffered very little damage from the ordeal and have put a little over 5,000 miles on it since then One item I did add was a much brighter headlamp  a 55 watt HID unit from  http://www.ddmtuning.com/Product-Categories/Motorcycle-HID-Kits-Lighting The kits are cheap but the shipping sucks.  I am mostly healed but very leery of little animals darting into the roadway.

People 250 / Re: Cant keep the battery charged.
« on: February 26, 2014, 03:10:40 AM »
Yep it's the charging coil, I have replaced mine twice from long periods of over reving the engine.

To replace it at home first have a jack and a buddy handy you will need a new cover gasket (11394-KHE7-900) $9   and the stator assy (31120-LDH1-E00)  $65
There are instructions in the repair manual for the People 250 you can down load it here.  (http://www.timtaylor.net/Scooter/Manuals.htm)  you need to down load the .rar unpacker as well.

The hardest part is scraping the gasket, finding an impact driver for the three screws in the case a hammer works and then getting it all lined back up while installing some gasket tacker helps.  I found the instructions online as well but that was years ago.  Good luck and keep riding.    Jim.

Hey who doesn't sing while riding?

And I approve of your helmet choice, they work and I had to have another cl max2 silver the first took a brutal beating on the road sanded down the chin bar and right side, back, lens but the noggin was fine I didn't realise how much damage was done till the ER doc told me that I was the first patient with my injuries that he had seen alive and was I wearing a helmet?  Well it worked he told me.

I really am a believer in helmets full face or flip cause what good is a head with out a chin.
