A new drive belt.
« on: September 13, 2010, 03:25:38 PM »
I'm pushing 9000 kms on my 125. When should I think about changing my drive belt? Has anyone driven theirs until the belt broke and if so how far did you get? Stock belts here in the states run about $47.00. Anyone use a gates as a replacement, if so what is the part #? What about kevlar, are they really worth the money? Thanks for your imput guys.

At 12.500 kms the belt on A125 will reach service level indicated in service manual.
I think that 16-17.000 kms should be safe (I would not go on a long trip with it thought :).

I'm at 10.200km, the belt is showing significant wear and I'm waiting for a new one to come in
(actually waiting for 13g roller weights..).

A snapped belt can lock the rear wheel while you're riding.. I wouldn't mess around with it.

The power alone is irrelevant, or 50cc scooters would never wear their belts out,
and most do even before 10.000km. Peugeot 50cc scoots have 5.000km replacement
intervals for example.

This is certainly not normal.
Like I said, around 12.500 kms it is still completely OK. You could expect 16.000 kms out of it for sure.
Is everything fine with variator and clutch otherwise? No strange noises, vibrations or shudder?

Nope, it's running perfectly and should probably be fine for 2-3k more, but I'm keeping it safe
and will replace it along with the rollers, since they're half worn also, and I'd like to try a lighter
set.

The local dealer only has 12,4g set (which is about the same as 3x14 & 3x11g that you have) but
I'd like to keep it a bit heavier.

If you go lighter, you will have lower top speed and possibly higher consumption as you will drive all the time at higher revs.
Depends what you want, acceleration or top speed.

doc..

kevlar is improved belt and has lots to gain in high temperature.

But use only right size belt, its few cm longer then serial. Got my kevlar broken and bought multivar.

Changing belt which is only slightly used, dont make any sense. U have service manual and inspect it...

I think thats only thing ill do after tuning this slow beast is 12g sliders, for start.

Next is exaust, with changing hole size on exit gases from gy6. 125cc has 50cc exaust?

Yeah, that's the general rule.. but get it just right and you might end up with
same top speed at same revs, but better acceleration due to higher revs at
lower speeds.

I have no idea how and why this happens, but I've seen it more then once.
Anywhu, I'd like just a tad lighter then my 14g setup to get rid of the 40-60km/h
flat spot.

I usually don't ride over 80km/h.

I would look at the jetting for your flat spot. Raise the needle a click could put you right on.
Kymco peoples too many ;) I'm not an expert just a full time hobbiest.

The jetting is fine and the flat spot at the mentioned speed a feature of every Agility 125
(and some other 125cc Kymcos that I've tried).

No flat spot with 3x14 & 3x11g  , but you have to change them every 5000 kms because 14gs become completely torn.
